L'Ouest was recommended to us by friends and first on our must try food list. So we took the train from Nice, dropped off our luggage and Ubered to the restaurant. We got there at 13:45pm. Most business lunches were finishing up as we sat down.
*Service*
Service was some of the best that I've ever had. Every napkin was in its place, the waiters anticipated your every need. Very professional. So this is what great service is like! The only problem is when we were done with our meal, and wanted to go, it took us half a hour to get the check. But that can be a great thing if you are on vacation. The French really value their leisure time.
*Food*
Every dish was perfectly executed. We ordered beef tartar with salad and pate with foie gras. We got complimentary freshly toasted baguette slices and a bowl of olives as a starter. Chantilly cream with raspberries for dessert.
The beef was savory sweet, with fresh onions and salty capers. The beef was so fresh, and beautiful bright red, and well seasoned. Great on the crunchy buttered baguette slices. The terrine was a buttery rectangular slice with tiny bits of foie gras on top of rich sweet fingerling potatoes, green beans, and asparagus. The asparagus and green beans were perfectly blanched and crisp, then sauteed in a butter sauce. A big Mmmm escaped my lips while eating. The French business woman next to me smiled.
The sweet fresh seedy raspberries were perfect with dollop of fresh cloud-like cream. This was so decadent! I used my spoon to scoop out every bit of leftover cream. It took all self restraint not to lick the bowl that held the cream.
*View*
Large windows overlook a large wooden patio. We had great seats, just next to the kitchen and gave us a view of the whole restaurant. We got to people watch, enjoy the sunlight and watch the chefs cook.
I would definitely come back!
