And interestingly the Academy is sponsored by Tarmac, the Mercers Company, Thomas Telford School, HSBC Education Trust and West Bromwich Albion Football Club. Students have state of the art facilities and having seen the facilities myself, they are pretty impressive. Sandwell Academy also has a Sixth Form and the aim of the Academy is to maximise student performance in all its forms. A lot of emphasis is placed on Sport, Business and ICT however the Academy do offer a broad curriculum. I wish I had state of the art facilities when I was at Sixth Form and High School. From top to bottom I am impressed with the Academy. I did have friends who went to the Academy and they themselves were full of praise for Sandwell Academy.

Independent of local authority control, the school is sponsored by Birmingham Metropolitan College and has recently extended its cohort to 16-18 year olds. Whilst the most recent Ofsted inspection reported mixed results - and I won't go into that here because all the information you need can be found using a quick Google search (plus as someone who used to work in education, just typing the word Ofsted gives me a sweaty neck) the place does seem to be on the up. Community involvement seems key - with initiatives including a play on local history run in conjunction with Harborne Library.

These days the word "Acadamy" means that anyone can teach, they don't even need qualifications, even I could get a job there! (and I was the worse pupil HHSMS ever had,) yet because I am now profound in my area of expertise I would be allowed to teach, I'm not just picking on one school, all acadamy's are the same, so if you want your children to get an education don't send them to an acadamy send them to a proper SCHOOL.

Millfield Primary School is a close-knit community school in the heart of Fazeley in Tamworth…read more My stepson has attended there since pre-school, and has always had the best care. The teachers are all very kind, and the parents form a great community. Most of the football coaches and Cubs leaders in the Tamworth area are parents or teachers at Millfield. The best thing about the school is its community focus, doing events within the community and encouraging Tamworthians to be involved in its activities. My stepson has special needs, and when it was discovered that his educational needs were going to be more challenging than originally thought, the Headmaster approached us to plan out some goals and objectives, and to try and deal with my stepson's needs in the most caring way. Since 2005, he has had a government-funded special needs classroom assistant who works with him for 18 hours per week. His teachers always try hard to involve him as much as possible in "normal" classroom activities. They are very quick to stamp out any bullying, often calling school assemblies to discuss a particular type of bullying that may have occured. The special needs coordinator clearly loves her job, and cares very much about all the children she deals with. For a community school, this is a great one.
