With all the great reviews I had high hopes for the birth center. My first impression was great and…read moreI loved the atmosphere. Unfortunately I would give zero stars if I could. I went in for an ultrasound around 7 weeks and I was told I had a miscarriage and was misdiagnosed with a blighted ovum by Angela. She prescribed me an abortion pill to clear my uterus of the "non-viable" tissue. She encouraged me to take it the next day without having had any blood work done or follow up bloodwork and ultrasounds which I have learned is standard before prescribing the pill and making an official diagnosis. Luckily I did not take the pill and for the first time in my life got a second opinion at bch the next week. They found my baby clear as day with a healthy heartbeat. For an entire week I was in mourning as was my fiance. We told everyone we had a miscarriage and it was hard to go back and tell them we had not. During the ultrasound Angela was very unprofessional as were the rest of the staff involved. It was transvaginal and the exam room led into the waiting room.. people kept coming into the room without knocking and asking to use the ultrasound machine while the midwife was in the middle of diagnosing us with a miscarriage. It felt very rushed and our midwife even took a personal phone call in the middle of all of this. I am now 4 months into a perfectly healthy pregnancy and I wonder how many people have been misdiagnosed here and did not get a second opinion. Their negligence very nearly killed my daughter.

My husband, daughter and I all had a great experience here with our 2nd child's birth and can't imagine going anywhere else now that we've got another on the way. My husband tells all the soon to be dads he knows about how wonderful it was for him as well feeling included and not a bystander in the birth of his child. They are competent, compassionate and I never feel like I'm being rushed out or pushed to finish our appointments before all my questions are answered. Definitely recommend this wonderful place to everyone.

I switched to Boulder Nurse Midwives after becoming aggravated with the OB practice I was seeing at…read morethe time. I had an all natural birth with my first son, so I figured why not give it a shot w/ midwives? I was anxious about switching to something unknown to me, but from the very first visit I felt welcomed and at ease. I knew immediately that I would switch. I love all the midwives here, every single one of them. They always made me feel very welcome and calm. They were always reassuring and helpful with answering all of my questions and worries. When I was full term and got closer to 40 weeks I requested cervix checks, which they don't normally do, (and I agree they don't tell you much- but I was curious!), and they didn't question me about it or make me think I should do otherwise, just agreed to do them for me. They also discussed the use of Vit K after delivery, and the eye ointment- asking me how I wanted to handle it rather than telling me how it would be done. (We skipped the ointment, no issues). I went into labor very early in the morning and labored in the tub with Shaunti by my side, and then when shifts changed, Angela was there with me. They let me do my own thing, and when my contractions completely went away after hours of active labor and 2 CM dilation later, I was given choices for what I wanted to do. Instead of feeling any pressure to augment or take steps to make labor start again, it was left totally up to me. We decided my mind was a little stressed out and I was over-thinking everything, and wanted to go home to try to relax a bit and see if labor picked back up again. My water broke the very next morning after a night of on and off contractions, and I was greeted again by Shaunti. I was straight into transition with constant no-break contractions and everyone was very reassuring to me and helpful. I was ready to push within about an hour or maybe less of arriving, and I was allowed to do so without any annoying counting or direction. Shaunti suggested a way that might be quicker so I followed her direction and everyone was amazing. Every time my eyes searched the room for help I was greeted with her looking back into mine, reassuring me that I could do it. My son ended up being very big for my frame (9.7, my first son was 6.13), and his shoulder got stuck. We dealt with a shoulder dystocia for 2 minutes, which was very, very scary for all of us but she handled it wonderfully and called for back-up as soon as she felt that it was needed. I was crying and got a huge hug afterward and lots of help and kind words from everyone. I just finished my 6 week postpartum visit, and she was there for me once again, reassuring me as I talked to her about PPD. I just can't recommend Boulder Nurse Midwives enough. No regrets whatsoever about switching to them halfway through my pregnancy. I am so thankful for the love and support I have gotten from them all.

I chose Boulder Nurse Midwives and couldn't be happier with the care I received from beginning to end. The midwives are all friendly, knowledgeable, caring, and excellent listeners. Each visit, I felt like the midwives took as much time as I needed to provide my care and answer my questions. Although I saw four different midwives over the course of my pregnancy, the care was comprehensive and consistent. My file was always complete and the midwife came into my appointment prepared and attentive; we didn't have to spend time reviewing information that I had already shared. I felt cared for by and completely trusted each of the midwives; in the end, it would not have mattered to me who delivered me. The midwives were also very reassuring and supportive. My daughter was large and I was two weeks late, but there was no pressure for me to induce early or to consider intervention due to her size. If anything, the midwives were far more relaxed than I was! During my delivery, my midwife worked with me and let me take the lead in terms of how my delivery progressed. She provided support and suggestions but allowed me to express what I needed. When my labor stopped progressing, she gave excellent help to move things along, and when I decided I needed medication to take the edge off of the pain, it was given to me without judgment. My after care was also excellent. The midwife focused on my recovery and spent plenty of time with me reviewing how I was adjusting both physically and emotionally to my new arrival. I would recommend Boulder Nurse Midwives to anyone looking for a more holistic birth experience who still want the protection of a hospital delivery.

From the very beginning, Lauren made me feel safe, supported, and completely cared for. She has such a calming presence, and she gave me the confidence I didn't even know I had. Lauren was with us every step of the way--starting months before I delivered--helping us prepare for labor and delivery with thoughtful education, helpful advice, and so much reassurance. When it came time for labor, she advocated for me in ways I will forever be grateful for. Her expertise not only helped move my labor along more efficiently, but she also helped me manage the discomfort in ways that made such a difference. Both my husband and I felt so thankful she was by our side. Having our first baby felt a lot less overwhelming because Lauren was there guiding and supporting us through it all. She even came to visit after our son was born, which meant so much to us. I genuinely cannot imagine having another baby without her. If you're considering hiring Lauren--do it. I cannot recommend her more highly. She is an incredible doula and an even more incredible person.

We originally planned to give birth at a birth center, but at 36 weeks our plans had to change due to complications. During what could have been an overwhelming and stressful time, Merrie was an absolute anchor. She was always available by phone or text and took the time to walk us through every option, helping us understand and process what our medical providers were recommending. When our plans shifted suddenly and we felt backed into a corner about what to do next, Merrie helped us calmly and thoughtfully navigate all of our choices so we could choose the path that felt right for us. Merrie's experience truly shows it felt like she had seen it all before and could clearly explain what might happen and what options we would have in each scenario. Her calm, grounding presence made her such a comforting person to have in the birthing room, and I always felt complete trust in her guidance and support. No matter what direction we chose, she was fully there for us. Her support didn't stop at birth. She continued to help us postpartum, offering guidance on babywearing, breastfeeding, and adjusting to life with a newborn. We felt so supported every step of the way. I truly cannot recommend Merrie highly enough. If you are looking for a doula who is compassionate, experienced, steady, and deeply supportive, Merrie is the best.

Being a doctor myself I can not say enough to support and promote Elizabeth. This was my 2nd homebirth the first being when we lived in CA. Now being 42 I had a few more check ups and personal health concerns due to age but I felt like I had the most thoughtful, and caring approach to my pregnancy as well as a very comprehensive medical approach so that all of my questions and concerns were answered. Elizabeth is incredible! Intuitive and a great teacher. I heard her voice all through my birth process reminding me of tips and tricks she taught in our visits and birth class. The way she educated me, and our family, about the whole process kept me grounded, strong, healthy and resilient right up to our birth! Somewhat even more important was the care she gave me and my newborn for up to 8 weeks AFTER the baby was born. Meticulous check ups of my new babe, cardiac function, lungs, weigh ins and all the screening tests.... and gave me special attention with some latching issues around initially very painful breastfeeding, and a persistent cough I had at the time. I am so grateful for having Elizabeth in my life and now a part of my family! I am so honored she guided my family and I through this process. She is AMAZING!

She is extremely knowledgeable on the biological and physiological levels as well as able to meet a pregnant woman on the spirit and emotional levels. To me this was imperative for me to feel held, cared for, and met through the comprehensive transformation that occurs during pregnancy. She is incredibly empowering to the woman, guiding and supporting her to follow her intuition and instinct. I loved that she often wouldn't tell me what choices to make but would share the relevant information while supporting me to trust my inherent wisdom. She deeply recognizes each woman's journey of becoming a mama is unique and there is not a one size fits all to decisions. She has the capacity to be with any emotions, fears or concerns that may arise as well as connecting with the baby on an energetic and heart level too. I felt so solid with Astrid's care knowing that she'd be able to be with anything that might arise during the journey and during the birth. She is also an incredible herbalist and I love the ways she supports through her wisdom in that arena too, as well as with Mayan abdominal massage. Astrid is deeply wise, incredibly smart and knowledgeable, emotionally intelligent and a heart centered mystic. Her dedication to supporting women to feel empowered in their birth experience emanates through her devoted care. I truly couldn't imagine a more aligned midwife for me.

I should have gathered that something would go wrong from a) other negative reviews and b) when I called to schedule, the girl kept putting me on hold because she didn't know how to do anything. Then she said her computer had crashed and to give her a few minutes. I patiently waited and then another woman picked up the phone and took over because clearly the other one didn't have a clue. When I arrived for my appointment the front desk lady appeared bothered that I was even there and when I expressed that I was frustrated that I had just driven a long distance, just to find out they didn't successfully schedule my appointment she didn't even say "im so sorry, let's try to figure something out" (You know, basic costumer service skills) I mean if I did this at my job I would be fired. Then when no solution was reached I said well I guess this is all the meet and greet I need and she said Sorrrrryyy in the most cynical way. I mean that was just the cherry on top. I understand that healthcare workers are under pressure right now but as a nurse myself, even on my hardest days I NEVER talk down to my patients or treat them badly. EVER. so I will never excuse that kind of behavior . In conclusion, the front desk is incompetent and rude and if I were the business owner of this establishment I would be livid if my front desk staff was driving away clients. I will not be back. I hope the steak holders realize they have front desk staff that are gambling with their business I'm sure they've worked hard to build.
