I saw that it was playing at the Palladium at a more convenient time, so I decided to there.. I'd actually forgotten about this theater. It was odd to me that the theater is on the 4th floor; I wasn't sure I was in the right place, and because I was there at an odd time (early Friday afternoon), there weren't any other people around. The young man at the concession stand (where they were also selling tickets) was very kind and courteous; he even asked if the amount of butter on my popcorn was ok. The theater area seems very upscale. There's a piano playing, and just a nice ambiance. The theaters themselves have the reclining seats and are comfortable. It was a little chilly in there (I was the only patron for a while, and then one other person entered the theater, so it was basically a private showing!), so I was glad to have my jacket as a blanket. The only thing I really didn't like was the parking situation. Yes, Birmingham gives you 2 hours free parking in the structures, but the movie runs just under that amount of time, and by the time you walk to & from the theater, you're over the 2 hours and end up having to pay.

Also Known as Pine Grove Historical Museum, it is run by the Oakland County Pioneer and Historical…read moreSociety whose goal is the "Preservation of the Past for the Enrichment of Future Generations." It is a non-profit organization, always looking for a helping hand. They were closed the other day when I visited. This location is run solely by volunteers, and had no signs with hours of operation. Ah, but during my visit, a couple of the volunteers happened to stop by and gave me information about the organization. I took a brief walk around the well manicured grounds and found that they have a farm museum, carriage house, root cellar, smoke house, summer kitchen, school house and of course, the Wisner Mansion. While I was there, I shot a picture of the historical marker which is prominently displayed close to the roadway. Their next big event is an Ice Cream Social on 26 JUL 2014 and it promises to be a great time. Hours of operation are 11am - 4pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, library included. Group tours are scheduled in advance. I see it's been a little slow here in updating info, so contact Sara at 248-338-6732 or office@ocphs.org with any questions or to RSVP. Web site: www.ocphs.org. As time went by, and fewer people met the eligibility requirements, membership was opened to the descendants of pioneers and other residents of the county. Throughout the 19th and 20th century, the Society collected newspapers, books, photographs, manuscripts, and artifacts relating to Oakland County, and the collections were stored in the county courthouse in downtown Pontiac. They have an atrium where you can snack and be loud, but the inside has the expectation of quiet! They have a little "bookstore" at the very front, I assume for books they want to retire, and operate off the honor system! Everything is $3 or LESS! Lots of carts marked $1 or 2/$1. I think they may have reading classes or story hour for children in the mornings, I got here at 9:30 and heard what sounded like a teacher talking to parents about their kids! They have toy bags and activities for young kids, a fish tank, and a globe! It's overall a really comfy place to spend quiet time in the Word.

There are lots of spaces to get away if you want quiet. Also the programs are top notch and I'm now a devout attendee of one of their many book clubs. Our son was looking for book's series to read over the summer. The helpful librarian asked him a few questions and gave him 5 different suggestions. He took three and loved them. When we returned the next month she saw us and came CB over to tell us there was a new series coming next week she thought he'd love and will put it aside. She did. We did. He did!
