King Tut Exhibit
Katalina G.

I've visited the Cranbrook in the past and it never disappoints!!! They have a restaurant, gift shop, several exhibits and a museum. I've seen a great dinosaur exhibit in the past and just checked out the King Tut exhibit! Both exhibits were very extensive, well arranged and informative. Paid $10 for the exhibit, not included in the pricing. I take my 20 year old daughter to all new exhibits that I think she would like. Having a 20 yr old enjoying the day viewing exhibits says a lot about how well they are displayed and how they hold your interest. Great place to spend the day with kids (of all ages) or even a date!

Habatat Galleries - First time here. Way out of my price range but an amazing gallery

Habatat Galleries

I found this hidden gem tucked away on an industrial drive by Googling "art galleries near me" when…read moreI was eating Thai food in Royal Oak. My expectations weren't much; I've lived in the Detroit metro area my entire life and had never even heard of this curiously spelled Habatat. These galleries, both stories of them far exceeded them. Let me say up front the exquisite glass works contained within these walls are far out of my price range. Base price for anything seems to be 10 grand with certain pieces going for as much as 8 or 9 times that. The few things I saw in a 4 figure price range stuck out like a sore thumb in how unimpressive they were. Something going for $6500 looked to me like it should be $650 while anything up in 5 figures had the intricacy and craftsmanship for me to see why it commanded a price of more than twice my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. So I'm essentially reviewing HG as a free museum cause that's how I looked at it. If there was a donation box that I spotted I probably would have put a fiver in it but none presented itself to me. The employee or proprietor who walked in shortly after me seemed to sense I was simply a sightseer, too, and showed no irritation with it. I think she was coming back from lunch break. I saw her out in the parking lot. So maybe she was just happy with a full belly of good food. Or had sold hundreds of thousands of dollars of glass work that morning. Most of the walls are black or very dark gray with multiple lights focused on each individual glass piece and they pop out beautifully. So many different artists represented as well. I usually try to keep track, at least somewhat, but I'm not too familiar with this medium and with the creators constantly in flux I didn't even bother trying. So go look yourself if you want to know who is behind all these shimmering delicate whats. I'd be cautious about bringing any young kids here though. I shudder to think of the damage some rugrat running around could do in the Habatat habitat. The second floor isn't as extensive as the first but I wasn't expecting it to exist in the first place and there is one spot where it provides a good overview of one of the ground floor galleries. At least a couple of rooms have white walls as the blonde lady who checked back in with me explained some of the pieces just look better with a white background. Some rooms have cubicles stacked layer upon layer with fascinating and fun multi colored glass art. Not an all day affair, unless perhaps you're an aficionado looking to drop serious ducats on multiple pieces for display and investment, but for a curiosity seeker like me you can easily while away an hour or perhaps more here. I walked out thinking that if I hit the Mega Millions I'd definitely buy a piece or three from Habatat Galleries.

Corey and I truly love Park West and the incredible pieces we've added to our collection--but what makes it truly special are the people. Each onboard art team brings something unique, and we've found that the more we collect on a cruise is directly tied to the connection we build with them. Some of these teams have become so much more than just professionals we've purchased art from--they've become like old friends, even family. We've laughed together, shared stories, and created memories that go far beyond the gallery walls. In fact, we've grown so close with one team that they truly are family to us now. We make it a point to meet up with them whenever they're in port, and we're even planning trips to visit them in their home countries. That's the kind of impact these teams have. It's not just about art--it's about relationships, connection, and shared experiences. Park West, you have some truly extraordinary people representing you around the world, and they deserve to be recognized. Thank you for bringing not only beautiful art into our lives, but incredible friendships as well. We can't wait for our next cruise and the next amazing team we'll meet! I didn't realize we could leave a review about these teams until now, so I wanted to include our favorite teams below. This way anyone who works with them can know how amazing of an experience they are about to have!! Most of these team members we have grown to love below are actually so great that they have been moved over to VIP cruises only. That is when you know you are working with greatness when they are already slated for transfer to the VIP world! If you live in Troy and have never been to the Troy Museum then shame on you! ;-)…read more The Troy Museum & Historic Village is a Mini-me version of Greenfield Village, but it's all about Troy. It has about ten historic structures, with plans to add two more after the purchase of the adjoining property. There isn't much of a museum in the main building, but most of the structures are from the 1800's and give you a feel for what life in rural Troy was like back then. The village consist of a log cabin (1840), a Greek Revival-style home (1865), a one room school house (Poppleton School 1877), a print shop, wagon shop, general store (1918), Old Troy Church (1837) and town hall building (1900). Information provided tells you where these structures were located in Troy. For example, the general store and the Old Troy Church were both originally located in Troy Corners (Livernois and Square Lake). Admission is free, but donation are gladly accepted. It doesn't take more than 45 minutes to view all the properties. Check out the websites for special events. You can even get married in the church and they rent out the gazebo in the center of the green for meetings, workshops and receptions. Take a step back in history and visit this quaint little museum. I knew I loved Troy for some reason!
