Everyone knows I have a crush on Bill. His Brighton home wooed me from the moment I met him there…read moreand discovered his macaroni cheese. I then uncovered the amazing desserts, wonderful wines and charming service. All of that under one roof in a fabulous old barn. So when hearing that Bills was opening up in Reading (which is about as close to my home town as you can get) I squealed with excitement and insisted on taking the parents out for dinner there. The building again is amazing. Bill has a way of choosing places with real character and this old house is the perfect setting. Upstairs there are two private dining rooms one with an enormous farmhouse table perfect for sitting large parties all together. The food is again, wonderful. I feel that the desserts didn't look quite as amazing as they do in Brighton. They were a bit mean on the fruit front, they also charge you per portion of bread, even though the portions are tiny. My final whinge will be that the didn't let us book as we wanted to eat at 6.30 but when we got there made quite a bit of a fuss about the fact the hadn't booked. The staff were all very confused. They had a lovely selection of drinks and I enjoyed a very modest Hedgerow Fizz which was a mere £3.501 In this area, you will not find better food, ethically sourced anywhere else. It really is quite wonderful. They also have a food store here and do hampers for gifts with goodies like Berkshire honey and Bill's homemade chilli jelly. It's worth eating here if you're in the area.

We stumbled upon this place after ending work early and were looking for a lunch place to eat and…read moredrink at. When we walked up, we saw a sign that said Tuesday Buy 1 Get 1 Free Burgers, so we were excited about that. When we walked in, the place was fairly empty and we found a table to seat 7 and started looking over the menu. They had several options for burgers and I decided to go with the bacon cheeseburger. We had to go to the bar to order which was fine since I wanted to get a beer anyway. The bartender was super nice and patient let me try a few of their local brews since I wasn't sure what I wanted. The burger was very good.....juicy and full of flavor. The fries that came with it were really good as well. The food came out fairly quickly. This is definitely a nice local pub/restaurant. The decor is a bit eclectic, but it's cool. I would definitely visit this place again if I make it back to Reading.

This is most certainly Reading's hippest pub/bar with a good sense of humour. The place is huge,…read morethe decor is lounge like, they have a great range of beers at the bar including guest ales, they have live music, funky DJs 2 beer gardens (front and back) and reasonable food. What's not to like? On the downside, the interior is perhaps looking a little rough around the edges and could do with a lick of paint here and there - but in some respects that adds to divebar-ish charm of the place.

We did say something to the waitress and she was very apologetic. Then manager came over apologised again and asked if there is anything wrong with the beef. We said it was the veg mainly. The beef was ok but not great. They gave us some free side dishes and desserts. I must say the building and the services were very good. However the chef and food really let this place down. I saw most people left out their veg on their plate when I left. My partner doesn't normally complain about food. So it must be quite bad. You can't cook the potatoes right what's left for a Sunday roast?! It's £20 for the roast so there should be some expectations to it. I gave 2 stars only because the service was good and the complimentary gesture. Otherwise 1 star!

The service and general feel of the place is relaxed and friendly, the menu is largely British in theme and tends to change with the season. They usually have some seasonal game on the menu which I like, their wood pigeon has been excellent the couple of times I've had it. Bel and The Dragons tend to be in interesting buildings and this one is no exception. They renovated the boat house specifically for the restaurant and it's a great setting (albeit not quite as interesting as the Godalming one which is in an old Church). Probably my favourite restaurant in Reading.
