My whole family looked forward to going there every year on our way to Assateague. But it's closed now! We went by today and it's been replaced by the most depressing business ever -- build your own cookie. Who wants a cookie on your way to the beach?? Snowballs. People want snowballs. You don't want to be covered in melting chocolate when the Assateague ponies make a run for it. Hoping that Cool Runnings reopens somewhere else -- it was a gem.

Owned and run by Ms. Kim and her sweet goddaughter, the hubs and I were super excited to run into this place while we were in OC. It was super hot, so we wanted to cool down with a Snoball - we chose half lemon-lime, and half blue raspberry - this was absolutely refreshing and delicious! Not too sweet, and the syrup tasted like it was homemade and it was just the right amount to flavor the ice! If those flavors aren't your thing - no worries! They have a chalkboard that lists an overwhelming number of flavor choices! We also noticed some ice cream made from a local farm, so we purchased 3 tubs to-go (which ended up being super delicious!). There is even a little 'beach' area where you can sit down and enjoy your cold treats. We stopped in for peaches over the summer but left with nothing. There were lots of options, but…read moremany of the things we could find at a grocery store with better prices and potentially better quality. The peaches were hard which was a disapointment. We were hoping to find peaches that were more ripe because they were local. We found about two peaches that were a little softer but they had no smell. I was suprised that there were so few local items. If I wanted goods made in PA, I'd go to PA. I asked which produce items were local and it sounded like almost none of them. You can get baked goods, produce, bottled and jarred items like pickes, candy, meats, and "homemade" deli items. There were plants for purchase, some outdoor furniture, and a cafe. The best part of the place ended up being the animals. We fed some goats and took a phot with the large bull statue. I think this would be a great place to bring kids to see the animals. I don't think it's worth the drive if you're staying on the coast because it's mostly grocery store quality produce and items you can get for less elsewhere. But, if you need something to do with kids and you're close by, it's worth a stop.

On this visit, I tried the Blueberry Banana Smoothie and the Turkey Sandwich at their cafe. The smoothie was incredible, vibrant purple, perfectly thick. The turkey sandwich was equally impressive; the bread was toasted to a perfect golden brown, and the balance of the melted cheese and sauce made for a great brunch. Beyond the cafe, it's the perfect spot to grab some fresh fruits and baked goods for home. Definitely a local gem!

So I knew I needed to make a trip to the orchard. Yesterday I headed to the orchard w my 2 little nephews, and my niece. We had such a fun time. I had never been peach picking and it was very interesting to me to see how it is all done. First off the place is huge - there are so many sections so each night they report on the website if they have an area ready for picking. A very nice worker "trained" us and she was great w the kids who were getting a little out of hand with the excitement. Then we headed out with our wagon. The kids wanted to do a contest to see who could find the biggest peach and there were a lot to choose from. We picked 2 boxes of white peaches and yellow peaches and it was easy to do and so much fun. When we left we headed down the road to get some heirloom tomatoes bc the first thing I want to make w my peaches is a peach caprese salad!!!!

They quickly explained the picking logistics, handed us the proper box, and directed us to the best spot to start picking. We picked just over 13lbs (the minimum is 10lbs). We split the haul into two and each left with 14 perfect peaches. The orchards were packed with beautiful fruit. The parking was easily accessible and available. They even have recipe cards to take with you at the checkout area. Can confirm the peaches are super sweet and juicy! We'll definitely be back next season.
