Tip of advise maybe do the physical first and deny someone before your pluck and prod them.
    Katherine M.

Weeks later, this still upsets me. I want to emphasize that if my mom hadn't informed me--since I'm adopted--I would have never known about this condition. There are so many non-transmissible conditions that the staff at this establishment are seemingly unaware of. Denying me because of something from my distant past is like denying someone who might possibly have a stroke in 20 years. Everything is possible, but their approach is overly cautious and unreasonable. This kind of blanket policy not only wastes time and money but also unfairly discriminates against individuals based on irrelevant medical history. It's deeply frustrating and disheartening to be treated this way.

I've been going to BioLife for awhile now and I've never had any problems until these past few months. Usually it only takes about an hour to go in donate and get out. But recently it's been taking over an hour until I even get to the donating bed...and then another hour just to donate. I'd say unless you have the $1200 new donor promo, then it's not worth it. Seems they are low staffed and are not properly training their new staff. Attached is a picture of my arm from my last donation (7 days ago). What happened was a new employee sticked me wrong and proceeded to go find someone to help. While she's trying to find someone to help this needle is still on my arm and it was excruciating pain as if it went into a muscle. Blood was also running down my arm because it wasn't properly in the vein. All of this chaos caused me to be at BioLife for over 4 hours...definitely not worth the $20. I then attempted to donate 2 days after in the other arm to be told that my pulse is too high (102 isn't that high). Keep in mind I drive an hour to get to the center plus I've already waited 40min to get to the vitals station and now they will not let me donate. Waisted time and money... DONT WASTE YOURS!

I said "what was that", as I didn't hear him. He then repeated by yelling really loud. He talked the needle out aggressively, and wrapped the stress so tight it actually hurt and cut off circulation. She said "we're not talking new donors". I said but I have an appointment and I drove all the way there and she said that this had to do with corporate, which means nothing to me. I said I didn't understand and she got really frustrated and did it was a corporate thing again. So, I asked to speak with her boss and after a few minutes the original girl came back and said that she could go ahead and have me fill out the paperwork and that I would be waiting for hours before they even started but she will make an exception and let me sign up. People had been waiting in line so long they started grabbing chairs to sit on while in line. Very bad experience and I recommend you go somewhere else!!

When I was in high school, one of my friend's parent needed frequent transfusions. So in high school, we would go as a group to give blood once every month or two. At that time, the UC Hospital Blood Bank was open 24 hours a day. We would go after midnight and had a great time conversing and flirting with the night shift, filled with fun individuals who weren't that busy. The 24 hour schedule is no more, but it is a happy memory. I moved away, but visiting, I decided to give some blood! The center has clinics all over town. Clifton has limited days and hours. If you are healthy, make an appointment. Friends together are welcome. Park in the Goodman Garage you can enter off Highland. Free parking! They validate parking so you aren't paying for parking to donate blood. There is a bridge on the 3rd floor from the elevators in the SE corner of the garage to the blood bank building. At the end of the bridge is a dedicated elevator to the blood center. The blood collection is on the 4th floor. It has its own lobby, then a check in desk. After providing basic information, you answer some health history questions on a wireless tablet. Check in and questionnaire takes about 10-15 minutes. After a short wait, your blood pressure, temperature, pulse and iron content of your blood is checked. If all is OK, the prep staff codes all the collection items with bar codes for the lab. They have some comfortable chairs for the donation itself. After, they have not so healthy snacks, orange juice, apple juice, V8, diet & sugar lemon lime soda, cold water. It's a good idea to relax there for a few minutes. They have free WiFi. And in the snack area are some touching notes from blood donors and recipients. Improvements: substitute wave, jungle, bird sounds for the rock music background. It's there so no one overhears confidential patient information. Get bananas and some more healthy snacks. America has one of the cleanest and most volunteer-supported blood systems in the world! That's because of you, if you give blood!

Drop what you're doing and schedule a donation. No seriously, I mean it…read more If you are a healthy adult and meet the other requirements http://www.hoxworth.org/donate_blood/eligibility.html you should donate. I have donated many times and can say that its one of the easiest and generous things you can do for your fellow humans. The staff are friendly and the phelebotomists are skilled and will make the experience as quick and painless as possible. I typically donate what is called a "Double Red" and the benefit of this form of donation is that you get fluids that help your body recover faster than a more typical donation. The only negatives I have to mention are that if you do any foreign travel, you need to tell them what countries you have visited for the last three years. I travel a lot and ended up bringing a list so that I wouldn't forget a country. There are often giveaways such as free tshirts or tickets to a local sporting team. A few days later you can call an automated service that gives you your cholesterol reading. I also think they can validate parking, but I am not 100% sure about that. You might want to ask them when you call about your appointment. So, get over your fear of needles/blood/whatever and schedule an appointment stat!
