2.5/5 I stopped here…read morea few months ago after scheduling a platelet donation - they cold emailed me and I thought I'd try it. I've donated whole blood plenty of times and this was my first experience donating platelets. I'm sorry to say it will be the last. The building isn't marked, my gps brought me to a bank which had other offices inside and it was confusing to locate. Staff here are friendly but I was not educated on the differences of platelet donation vs whole blood and did not know what to expect so it was a very stressful experience for me. Basically once they scheduled me no one reached out again, I had to call to make sure I had an appointment here and then. I never got a reminder email or documents to review ahead of time, in person they said my email probably went to spam. Anywho, the gentlemen who got me settled initially was telling me about possibly wanting a blanket, magnesium or tums for some of the symptoms I may experience but I was so overwhelmed that I declined those items and just tried to figure out the TV so I had something to focus on. I knew platelet donation would take a while but throughout the process I kept having to get checked on since the tube in my arm was suctioning to the vessel and taking forever. I am fine with needles, etc, but because of the length of time and stress of the unknown I was feeling on the edge of a panic attack. Not my cup of tea...!

Over the years, the only problems I've had are with an incorrectly set IV (which they would have gladly fixed, but I gutted it out), a mix-up as to what I was donating (plasma vs. platelets), and a lack of COVID protocols early in the pandemic (addressed since then). Setting up an appointment is easy on-line, or you can call, or answer one of their texts or phone calls. A reminder text comes in 1-2 days before. It's easy to re-schedule if you need to (as well as polite to do so). I typically arrive 5 minutes before my appointment. Check-in at the front desk is easy, and a nurse typically brings me back within 5-10 minutes. Ideally you fill out your donor survey before you come in, as it saves time for you and the nurse. They get your vitals (BP, iron count, pulse, temp, weight), check to see which vein the want to tap, and then bring you to your padded, reclined chair to start the process. I typically read a book on my phone, but you can also use a chair-side TV to watch Netflix, or tap into their free wifi. Blood donations only take 30 minutes, whereas plasma is an hour (for me at least, but I'm slow), and platelet donations can take multiple hours. The nurse will let you know how you're doing along the way. My biggest gripe is that my nurse typically changes over the course of an hour as shifts end or someone goes on break. Afterward, partake of the free cookies and drinks (I'm partial to the M+M cookie with a bottle of chocolate milk, but there are lots of options) to rehydrate a bit before you head back into the world, knowing that you've given a little something of yourself for others.

Upon entering, I was immediately offered a snack and drink. I was about 20 minutes early for my appointment and waited less than 3 minutes to be brought into the check in process. Check in was smooth, especially if you fill in the form online before getting to your appointment. My assistant through the process was great. Very customer focused. Making sure I was feeling ok. Making sure she accommodated my needs with regard to needle sticks and sight of blood. Huge array of snacks and drinks for your recovery. I actually stayed there a bit longer in one of their lounge chairs and finished my book. Great experience!!

There's a cute resting area with snacks, beverages, magazines, a fireplace, and comfortable chairs where you chill and eat cookies for 15 minutes after you donate. They also have a huge library of dvds for the people donating platelets which takes 2-3.5 hours. A regular blood donation takes about 30 minutes all-in. The nurses were really nice and will chat with you to keep you distracted from the massive needle in your arm, and my nurse brought me a couple of cranberry juices to keep me from getting lightheaded. She also did a great job with the needle, it was honestly pretty much painless! There's a free parking lot, same lot as the Festival Foods store, and they accept walk-ins but you can also make appointments online! You can donate blood every 8 weeks; it's a nice thing to do on a day off to 1. Be a good person and 2. Eat some free Oreos... so get at it!

She welcomed me in her office and was told to get on the table for her to start( I have physical therapy limitations) that had prohibited from me getting on the table and was looking for assistance either by her or something like a step stool, but she didn't offer for any help not even physically assisting me. She stated there was no stools in the area and that at the very minimum I should try to get on the bed, these where also the same beds used for the lobbies that ifni cant get up in the office the lobbies would be the same. Then she proc not tell me that do to my phys diagnosis I wouldn't be able to donate because that diagnosis neeeds for plasma to be used as well. I stated to her I've had it all my life and 10 years ago I had given plasma with no problem. overall the experience was sadning considering that couldn't even something as simple as a step stool ( I'm 5'3) that step stool could have made a positive impact, but she didn't even bother going the extra mile. So I have people are in decent condition because they won't give you a lending hand. ( literally)
