No doubt about it, this is a business, but once you have your physical and first donation, everything is easy. The physical/donation takes about two hours Once you were an established donor, when you make your appointment arrive on time go to the computer bank on the right, and fill out the questionnaires. You will be directed to wait for a nurse to clarify the questions you didn't get answered correctly or go stand in the station and possibly wait in line to be seen by an intake person who measures your vitals and has a couple screening questions. The numbers they find, parentheses blood pressure, wait, iron level in the blood, etc. Determine the amount of plasma for your donation. Take some music and headphones or book or something. The phlebotomist are professional and don't hurt you. read more

The app makes it convenient to make an appointment but beware. If you go a few months between donating, you will need to get another physical, but you won't know that until you arrive for your donation. Basically waste of time because the app still lets you schedule a donation even if you need a physical. You might as well just never come back at that point because getting a physical and donating the same day takes 3-4 hours. read more

Stay away from this place if you can. They usually only have one person doing the BS, VS check. Only give you 5 mins to do rechecks and you only get one. They NEVER have snacks after the initial appt. Plan on an entire morning or afternoon. long lines, no chairs, no snacks, will send you away and their standards are very strict and they follow them to the letter. The facility is nice, clean, and well maintained. That is the best thing I can say about this business. Several of the front office/intake staff were rude and inattentive. Examples: I observed several donors being told to wait while staff members stood around and talked to each other. One staff member left a potential donor sitting in the chairs waiting while she left to go on break. The staff member doing my intake had some kind of bad attitude that really puzzled me. She kept rolling her eyes and wouldn't answer me except with one-word answers. It was very strange and frankly, off-putting. The atmosphere in the front office/intake area was extremely oppressive. None of the staff smiled or engaged with the customers. They gave abrupt, clipped instructions and almost never made eye contact. It made me very uncomfortable. The phlebotomy staff in the donation area were much more personable and seemed to like their jobs. They were all hustling but took time to engage in small talk with the donors. This place is a disaster. From the rude nurse, to the lack of explanation to new customers, to the over 3 hour wait each time, I strongly suggest you stay away. Some employees are nice, but no one seems to care that they work at 25% employee to customers. They should not accept so many donors unless they can serve them--or maybe the mean nurse is there to turn half away for no apparent reason to cut donors in half. I'm eager to speak with a manager about these issues which I'm certain he/she is already aware of. I wanted to come in and see about donating some plasma and earning a little extra cash. I had heard good things from others, so I figured why not give it a try. I was surprised by how many people go through their doors on any random day. And they have their system really organized and making sure that everyone is safe and knows what is going on during the process. All of the staff were competent, though not all were friendly. They run a lot of specials each month to reward people for coming in and giving regularly. About two months ago I donated plasma and the lady was a little rough on my arm leaves a bruise. She then switched sides and did the same on the other side. Then when I came back two days later, I was turned away because of the bruising which I tried to explain they did. If I could give a zero, I would! I had the most rude and unprofessional, supposedly RN, do my physical on 10/25! This was my initial visit and LAST! I'm in my 50's, healthy, weigh 118 lbs and only on Protonix and Lipitor. I exercise 5 times per week and eat right. I'm quite positive there's not many in my age group only on 2 prescription medications! I told her I have no other health issues. She tells me rudely, obviously not, you're on Lipitor. If she was a REAL RN, she would know risk factors, such as genetic, as in my case! WTH, this coming from an obese person! My Dad's side has the elevated cholesterol, my Mom's side does not! I've tried to donate at the Lakeshore location two times; I've been turned away both times, neither time was due to health concerns. The first time I showed up within the 10 minute late period, was kept waiting for five minutes then informed I was late and needed to reschedule. The second time I showed up early. I was told I hadn't eaten enough, they made me drink a protein shake. I agreed and they finished my registration process. The woman then took my blood pressure and tapped on my veins prior to telling me I needed to workout and drink more water before coming back to try again in two weeks. Now let me state, I workout daily. I have never had an issue donating before health or vein wise. I drink over 50oz of water daily. I drive an hour to come to this center. To be told I'm not fit to donate is ridiculous considering I have problems going though another service previously. The people at this center were rude and inconsiderate. read more
