Back in November of 2019, we booked a 7 night stay through VRBO at the Ocean front Marriot through Evan Price at Binnacle Realty. We are supposed to be celebrating 2 of our children graduating (one from college, one from high school) and our upcoming 25th wedding anniversary.
When Covid-19 began, we contacted VRBO immediately and asked what the correct way would be to either cancel or reschedule, we also contacted Mr. Price. He immediately told us that there was nothing that he could do because he had already paid the property owner their money( when he advertises that he owns the properties) and he would not ask them for the $$ back. We asked for the name of the owner so that we would be able to communicate directly and ask what our options are, hoping we could work something out together. He said he would not disclose the owners name...understandable.
After continual contact with VRBO, we started a claim file and they sent emails to Mr.Price urging him to refund us our $$ or reschedule...after they sent that to him, he emailed us saying that the Marriot is expecting us...
There is a MANDATORY 14 day quarantine once you enter the state of HI. Also we spoke directly to management at the Marriot today and they said that ALL amenities are closed and that we must stay in our rooms the entire stay. There will be no pool, restaurants, and even housekeeping is shut down. Basically, we would fly to Hawaii, stay in our room and fly home. Not exactly worth the almost 8 grand.
It is not like we are canceling because something came up, or changed our minds... it is a NATIONAL PANDEMIC!!
You would think that a rational person would understand that and have a conscience.
He keeps stating the "no refund" policy, but if he cannot deliver what he sold us.... beach, pool, room service, housekeeping, restaurants, etc... isn't that a breach of contract???
The airline we booked through also had a non-cancellation policy and they had no trouble refunding us due to the situation. We also booked a few nights at another hotel to extend our stay, who also have a non-refund policy, and they actually contact us first cancel our stay and refunded our money.
It would be different if we canceled on him for our own personal reasons, but the fact that he sold us something that we won't be able to utilize the way it was advertised is it different story.
We will never be doing business with him again!!! read more
