Our insurance company put us up here and we had a great experience. The breakfast is very high-quality, the customer service is excellent, and the rooms are very comfortable. We had adjoining rooms at the end of the building , and My daughter managed to get us locked out of one of our rooms with the throw bolt closed and the management was amazing about helping us get back in and didn't make her feel bad at all because it was a genuine accident. We have also had the opportunity to swim in the pool when friends were staying here a few months back and it's very clean and even though it's outdoor, it's a very inviting environment. Everything is clean and everyone is so friendly... The fire pit out front is really nice and they have a little market at the front desk if you just need a couple of small things and don't want to run to the store. The rooms are well appointed with what you need to cook, and that was really nice considering we had left everything behind at our water damaged house. We will definitely stay here again if the need arises.

He inquired about my day, my evening plans and recommended a BBQ place for dinner. This room borders on aged elegance. Stone floor tiles, shower tiles, vanity. This is no new building and the room has a slight hint of a tobacco scent. Crown molding, framed prints on the walls and the 3 foot by six foot frames mirror add a touch of sophistication. I like the carpet pattern, too. It looks fairly new. I'm rarely in a room long. Usually just to sleep and get back out on the road. But I have some work to do tonight to get organized for tomorrow. So it's nice to have a desk.

Military spouse & mother - deeply disappointed and concerned…read more I'm writing this review not just as a guest, but as a military spouse and a mother. What happened to my family at this IHG property was truly shocking and unacceptable. This is not just about poor service -- it involves child safety and possible discrimination. Date & Time: September 20, 2025 (Saturday), between 9:20-9:30 AM Location: IHG Candlewood Suites - McChord Field (JBLM, WA), breakfast area That morning, I went to breakfast with my mother and my young children. Although breakfast was advertised until 10:00 AM, there was almost no food left and no plates available. When I politely asked a staff member for a plate, she completely ignored me -- even though I was standing right in front of her. Moments later, she responded immediately and courteously to another male guest who asked for the same thing. The difference in treatment was blatant and made me feel disrespected and possibly discriminated against. When I asked again, she replied in a dismissive tone. Then, as she pointed to the cabinet where the plates were stored, she pushed my 3-year-old son, who happened to be standing in front of it. She physically touched my child without my consent. I immediately told her not to touch him and asked to speak to the manager. This happened in front of other families and children. My husband reported the incident to the Military Police, and that same day, investigators came to the hotel to look into it. We were told that the hotel does not store CCTV footage at all, meaning there was no video evidence available. To hear that a hotel located on a military installation has no system for recording or retaining CCTV footage was extremely concerning. From a safety and security perspective, this seems like a serious risk -- not only for incidents involving children, but for any situation requiring evidence. What's worse is that there has been no formal apology, no proper follow-up, and no visible corrective action. The same staff member was working again the very next morning as if nothing had happened. Because of this, we avoided the breakfast area for the rest of our stay, even though we had paid for it. What's even more heartbreaking is the impact this incident had on my son. The next day, he showed clear signs of stress and trauma -- yelling, pushing his younger sibling in the chest, and mimicking the aggressive behavior he experienced. This is something we had never seen from him before. As a parent, it was devastating to witness how a brief but frightening interaction with a hotel staff member could affect his sense of safety and behavior. Now, three weeks have passed, and despite sending two follow-up emails to the hotel manager, I have received no response at all. This complete lack of accountability and communication is extremely disappointing. As a military family that has relied on IHG during multiple PCS moves, we expected a safe and respectful environment. Unfortunately, this experience has left us feeling unsafe and dismissed. I have already reported the incident through the appropriate channels, but I believe it's important for other families to be aware. Incidents like this should not be minimized or ignored. I sincerely hope that IHG leadership and base authorities take this seriously and hold the staff accountable so that no other family has to experience something like this.

In 43 years I have never felt so unsafe or uncomfortable staying at hotel in terms of the room and…read morethe property. The staff was accommodating but I suppose my first indication of this locations issues were the fact the staff was behind a secured glass room. The property was crawling with individuals I suspect were not staying as guest rather roaming the property. The traffic in the few short hours we were there involved what appeared to be drug and prostitution dealings. There was a group of three individuals using drug in the parking lot and they gave a very dirty look as though we were interrupting them. Ultimately It was the most concerning thing I've seen in a very very long time. And it takes a lot for me to feel like my property and persons is in some real risk of danger, harm, or theft. My wife and I felt so unsafe and uncomfortable we decided to cancel our plans and head home. I would advise anyone traveling to find anywhere else to stay but this location. While the the gentleman I dealt with checking was friendly every single other aspect of this hotel was completely unacceptable. Please trust me when I say I don't complain easily if at all and that this review is meant as a warning to anyone traveling specifically if you're older or traveling with kids. This location is something you should avoid at all cost. Thanks for taking time to hear about our experience.

We stayed a night in The Presidential Suite here. Due to the day of the week we had the place to…read moreourselves and that was a blast. The garden is calling me back. The place was immaculate and it was a beautiful view straight at the lake. Staying in the room where both Pres Teddy Roosevelt and Pres William Howard Taft slept was so awesome. As for comfort, I recommend that suite due to the double couches... Like nice stuffed modern couches. The 15th century paneling in the ballroom and great hall, the reclaimed stained glass pieces that were merged together and placed in every window, some shards going back to the 13th century, the love that went into the restoration of a place where once ancient oak was painted over (!!!) and according to comments that the sunken garden designed by Olmsted Bros was covered in blackberry bushes... It took my breath away. I felt very fortunate as I'd been dreaming of staying there. Hopefully a child of mine will get their wish and marry there. For those who are concerned, the wood paneling etc was purchased from a delapidated estate home that was noted as unsavable. In the grand tradition of Biltmore and Hearst Castle the import of entire chambers was done, but in a way this purchased material saved something precious. The stained glass was reclaimed by a member of the nobility in Britain or Europe whose passion was searching for these pieces. Having seen 3 different rose designs from the houses of Tudor, York and Lancaster, we're possibly looking at Tudor or even Pre-Tudor Britain for the all white and all red roses (look up The War of the Roses). Stunning. I wished I could have seen every single window in the place as it appears even servant's quarters windows on the 3rd floor have these beautiful stained glass designs. As for the brick that the exterior is constructed from, it was new brick made in good old Wales. Overall the brick and reclaimed building pieces were shipped around Cape Horn in 3 ships to Tacoma. Talk about a dangerous voyage. If you love horror the castle was practically saved by the huge payout from a network who made Stephen King's Rose Red. Each room has a copy on dvd. Also: 3rd floor common areas include a media room with comfy chairs open to all, a game room with a pool table etc, a small parlor with a prie-dieu in case you need to pray before a wedding ceremony or sit on its little parlor set. The second floor common area is a small library. For weddings, that and the suite across the hall are changing rooms. Lobby and ballroom on the first floor are common areas unless a wedding is going, in which case the weddings must wrap up by 9 pm. What a place. My only complaint is the final step onto the first floor from the staircase needs a railing. I fell hard and know I can't be the only one. It would be awful to fall as a bride who can barely see her feet while wearing heels. I'd also love to be able to order, online at least, a really wonderful book with old photos of the rooms etc and the facts and history of the house that the website doesn't cover. Bring cash to tip the maid as there is not really a modern checkout setup. The maids deserve a huge tip. FYI: this is no longer a B & B. They supplied our room with a lovely basket of snacks and there were complimentary sodas and water etc in the mini fridge. Yoi can order food if you want to but I didn't know how we'd let someone in the gates. As far as bringing food: do. There's a small microwave and a keurig as well as a small set of glassware, plates, actual utensils and linen napkins. It's a bit of a drive out to somewhere and check in is at 4 pm. Oh! Check out is 11 am which was nice. Again: please put a railing on the last step.

Consider Thornewood Castle Thornewood Castle is located near Joint Base Lewis-McChord, south of Tacoma, Washington. Hidden in the local neighborhood, the facility is strategically placed to take advantage of stunning shoreline views. The building has its historic origins from 400 years ago and moved brick by brick from the United Kingdom to Tacoma 1907. There have been many modern upgrades since its origins, but the staff has kept its ancient charm and made it a welcoming place for a modern 21st-century audience and beyond. Several parts of the facility can be decorated to meet the needs of your event. Chairs in the garden for announcements or wedding vows. The covered loggia, located on the eastern wing of the facility, can house plated or buffet dinners with room for a hosted bar. Mind you, a little elbow grease will be needed to make the facility as stunning as you need it to be. This includes having lawn reception for dinner in the back portion of the facility, facing the sun and beach. Be advised to make sure your caterers and vendors are aware of the facility's restrictions and limitations. Parking can also be a challenge given the size of the facility, but again, check with staff when making your booking. Now there are rooms for rent, and they are stunning. Rates and photos are available on their website. The photos can not adequately express how the rooms have been curated for short-term stays for guests. They are amazing in person to see. The staff is helpful to vendors and guests alike, as long as everyone understands the importance of preserving and enjoying the historic nature of Thornewood Castle. Would totally return if given an opportunity! Take the opportunity to visit!!
