I love the "Old days, never changed a thing" feel to it…read more Don't get fooled by the not so updated interior style (more about that below) they were some of the first ones who were following very strict organic rules. They were really early part of this movement, back early when it wasn't a movement yet and people wanting organic food were considered weird outsiders. They are part of Goût mieux (natural ingredients, seasonal, regional, organic, animal and eco friendly). Due to that, the menu might seem limited but it offers everything you need, be it meat, vegetarian or vegan. I loved the mussles which were a seasonal special, and the crispy chicken (breadcrumbed and fried lil scallops) were delicious, too. Considering this is in the heart of Zurich's old town and they use high quality ingredients the food is very reasonable priced. You can also play billiard or cards, it has a very relaxed and friendly vibe. I also appreciate the noise level. Sometimes when a restaurant is fully booked you end up screaming or hardly talking with each other but not here. I truly believe they haven't changed much during the past 30 years concerning the interiors. In times where it seems traveling becomes slowly obsolete because you find the very same cafes and restaurants in all trendy cities (that so urban, classy yet relaxed oh its so NYC kind of style) this restaurant is a city treasure. Much of this true old style restaurants are disappearing or already have disappeared a long time ago just to give place to new restaurants which try to be nostalgic and from the good old days. This place is a 100% real. The waiting staff was very friendly.

Restaurant Schlauch is the kind of down-to-earth place you (at least I) immediately feel "at home"…read more With more than 70 years of restaurant history, it seems to be one of the most traditional places in Zurich. Named after an early affiliation with the Zurich fire fighters, the German word "Schlauch" translates into hose. The food is very good, with a focus on organically and locally produced ingredients. The menu, and the whole place in general, is more comparable to a "Bierhalle" than to a classy Restaurant. However, the atmosphere (e.g. the kind of local people coming here) is very distinct from Bierhalle - most notably it is much quieter and more cozy. Next to the usual menu card, there are three daily full menus, including soup and salad. Check out their homepage for details. There is also the possibility to play pool, snooker and carambole. Totally recommend, especially when you want to have a relaxed evening with friends!

This is a men's swimming area, but on summer evenings it turns into a poolside lounge and bar…read more Don't be conjuring up images of swimming pools, because the "pool" here is actually part of the man-made Schanzengraben river that used to surround the original city of Zürich. You can still see the old stone walls outside that used to line the moat. Rimini closes when it rains, but we were lucky enough to stay by huddling under giant umbrellas because it rained AFTER we got in. They even put a giant umbrella over the barbecue grill and kept right on grilling! Cool place to chill for a drink after work and get some pizza or bratwurst or cervelat outdoors. Very relaxed atmosphere.

In the day time its supposedly a men's only public swimming river (called a BADI in Switzerland) and towards the evening it becomes a bar by the Schanzengraben River. A beer was about CHF 7,- and a Apéro Spritz about CHF 12,-. The serve little snacks too and what's really important is that its CASH ONLY. I am a big fan and cannot wait to go back, I just can imagine that this place is completely packed in the summer. Little hidden paradise in the city. **Swiss German Word of the Week: BADI English: lakeside public swimming area German: Seebad, French: piscine en plein air Italian: piscina Romansh: bogn avert).

Do you remember that lounge place you used to go when you were on vacation ? Well this is kinda…read morelike it, except strait in the heart of the city :) The interesting thing about this place is that you HAVE to remove your shoes (although they also can offer some flip flops), which quickly gets you in a more relaxed mood. The place is located a few minutes from Paradeplatz, laterally on the river, facing the Accenture building. The location is really great and can host large groups (we were at least 7). There is a large pool in the middle of the place with a small bridge that I do not recommend crossing when you are a bit tipsy :P At night, the lights make this place really special, and you feel out of the city. The place offers a small selection of biers (mostly local ones) some wines, and some appetizers for those who are hungry (I liked the Hummus :) ). We didn't try any of the cocktails but when I asked some people they looked satisfied with theirs. Prices were decent given the location and setting of the place The service is at the bar and on a sunny day or evening the waiting time could be 15-20 so don't be impatient or in a hurry. The bartenders were friendly and were fast in taking orders and serving us. I highly recommend this place for an afterwork evening with collegues or friends

Before that time had come, my hubby came to meet us, but they wouldn't let him in- those crazy greeters! Offering several beers, I went for the bugel brew. But they made us drink it all before we left- what a to-do. Can't bring it out of the bar...really, who knew? So in all, it's a super place, a relaxing night-time joint. But their service is truly lacking, which kinda misses the point...
