Instead of automatically taking her to the back for testing, they worked with me and performed exams and testing in the room with me assisting, which made a huge difference for her comfort level. If an appointment ever became too much for her, we stopped because their priority was keeping it a positive, low-stress experience. Their attention to detail was incredible. They kept thorough notes and truly knew Chloe...how to enter the room, how to speak to her, how to get down to her level, and how to help her feel safe. They also worked closely with me to find the right medications to help manage her anxiety, which greatly improved her quality of life. Because of the care and trust they built over time, going to the vet became a "happy" experience for her. Almost like a treat. That meant everything to me, especially when it came time for her end-of-life care. Despite being in pain, Chloe was calm, comfortable, and able to enjoy all the final treats. The process was incredibly peaceful and handled with so much compassion, even in such an emotional moment. Union Hill Animal Hospital treats your pets like family and truly sees them as individuals. We boarded our kitties there while out of town for a major trip, the outgoing cat was able to go "work" in the back room and he loved it. The skittish cat had no signs of being upset for being left a week. That says a lot in my eyes. One particular aspect of this office... they will not immediately steer you to expensive diagnostics. If your baby might have an inflamed intestinal condition, they will just help correct the diet and treat the symptoms as needed. Other businesses are quick to do intestinal biopsy and ultrasounds. Sure that might be your choice to do, but I like how practical the team is. My kitty with the intestinal issue lived to be 20 years old, and he was supported through old age with fluids, and b-12 shots as needed. Those last years could have cost me thousands of dollars, but we got the standard of care that he would receive anyway. Our rescue skittish kitty had stomatitis 4 years ago. The remedy is removal of the molars. The staff quoted us $1200 as standard estimate. We paid it and came to pick her up the next day. The staff corrected our bill and refunded us $400 because the surgery did not take as long as expected and since she was young, the removal was not complicated. They saved her life! Not only by knowing how to treat her, but they offered an option to euthanasia. Kitty is still sassy and happy today. When we got our new puppy, Dr. H was my first stop on the way home! The cuddles and loves for new babies are so genuine! Dr.H took the time to educate me, the cat mom, on how to raise my puppy. I'm so grateful!

I was researching vets because I'm new to the area…read more When I sent an email request for information, I got a form letter back indicating they were 3 weeks out scheduling for new patients and there is a $100 charge for all new patients. This would a charge on top of any exam or grooming fee. With a 3 week lead time, I would hate to have a pet that needed urgent care. They probably won't try to work you in, even though you're an established patient. Yes, there may be 24/7 vet facilities but when you have an established relationship with a vet who knows your pets, that's where you want to go first.

The staff was patient with me on the day of the surgery, kept me informed and moved my dog through the process efficiently. She survived the anesthesia, cleaning and extractions and should enjoy a few more years of life with clean breath and no pain. Dental work is expensive because it is time consuming and requires surgical skill to close wounds at extraction sites. The work done on my dog was necessary and reasonably priced. It is a wonderful office with friendly techs and knowledgable doctors. I would rate it SIX STARS.

After a short battle with bone cancer, we recently realized it was time to let our dog go. I had been staying in touch with Dr Kovac since her initial diagnosis for guidance and reassurance, and made the call for the final appointment. He gave me the information I needed to be certain that I was making the right decision and graciously took the time to make a plan to help my daughter (who has some disabilities, and was best friends with our pup) understand, accept, and actively participate in the decision with the family. Our dog passed peacefully and with dignity in her favorite spot, in the sunshine, with her people close. It is difficult to articulate our gratitude for Dr. Kovac after this experience. Some of the folks there were helpful but others seemed like they didn't want you to be there. No help in the dog area at all. It's like you are at an outside mall that only allows window shopping. Not a friendly place that would make me want to adopt an animal. I do feel bad for the animals there. I'm hoping they pay more attention to them than the people coming into the shelter to adapt them.
