I use Yelp all the time, but I never placed a review. I never felt the need to because my experience usually matched the reviews I had read. My philosophy was very simple. If a place had bad reviews, then I'd avoid it. I never thought to use Yelp, however, for a car dealership and I'm glad I didn't. Otherwise I would have avoided Bill Currie Ford and I would've missed out on a deal of a lifetime.
On their website I found some pretty low prices on the left-over 2015 F-150s, so I decided to go there expecting the ole bait and switch, but still hoping for the best. I brought a copy of the internet pricing with me (in case the salesman "wasn't aware of the internet pricing" - which has happened many times to me in the past). I found a truck I liked (which was the easy part because the trucks are freaken awesome) and then I looked at the sticker and I felt the blood draining from my head. Then I remembered the low pricing listed on the internet and the feeling in my hands started to come back.
Harold Watson saw me in the lot, offered to take me on a test drive and he went through every aspect of the truck. Once I settled on the Blue Jeans Metallic, he started to work on the numbers. Ok, here's where the rubber meets the road. Everything can go out the window once the numbers are presented. A great shopping experience can turn into garbage with a bad number and a terrible shopping experience can be turned around with a good number. I was prepared for anything. The old "those internet prices were only good yesterday from 3:00 to 3:05", "that model was sold", "that was a misprint" or even "Internet? What's an internet"? Well out comes Harold with the internet pricing and even gave me a more than fair price for my trade-in. Hmmmm, what's wrong? There has to be something wrong. Let's look at those numbers again, what am I missing? Well, it turns out I was missing nothing. I got a ridiculous price (in my favor) for a 2015 Blue Jeans Metallic Ford F-150 XLT and a super fair price for my trade-in. Harold was awesome. There was a small stain on the seat (which I noticed after I signed all the paperwork) and after I brought it to Harold's attention he quickly took care of it.
The only issue I had was with the Finance representative who pressed hard for me to get the extended warrantee, gap insurance, Lojack, tire/wheel protection and other nonsense that I knew that I wasn't going to waste my money on. When I said I didn't want any of it, she said, "Well, we're going to have to talk about Gap Insurance and...." (it was at this point that I tuned her out. "We're going to have to talk...". Really? My response was "you could talk all you want, I don't want it" and I immediately went on defense. Bad technique on her part. Even if it turned out that it was a good deal and it did make sense and I actually should have bought it, I wasn't going to after that "we're going to have to talk" line. All I'm thinking now is that I ruined her commission and she's pissed). Some people like the extended warrantee, I get that. I don't. I'll probably sell the truck before the manufacturers warrantee expires and with the quality of today's vehicles, I can't remember the last time I wished I had the extended warrantee or was glad I had it. My advice is to know beforehand whether you want the extended warrantee, know the pricing your willing to pay and stay strong.
Take away that minor annoyance and the experience was great. Harold was awesome, the price was awesome and as I said before, the truck is freaken awesome. Nutin wrong with that!! read more
