The staff was very friendly, very understanding, and very patient. They absolutely explained everything clearly and were very helpful. When we showed up at the office there was a sign welcoming my daughter to her visit. During the course of the visit everything that happened was explained to both my daughter and myself, which I really appreciated. The staff asked my daughter's permission when they were working on her and gave her options, something I really appreciated as they were acknowledging her own agency over her body and care. She instantly latched on to the wonderful dentist and team. Some pediatric dental offices do not allow parents in the back at all but GPD allowed me to come into the back. After my daughter became comfortable with the staff and the process for fixing a couple of teeth began she decided she was fine with me waiting up front. Again, I appreciate the fact that she was given the choice. We have an unusual insurance setup and the team took the time to review it, understand it, and put everything needed into place. It's a bit of a drive for us but I'm glad we chose GPD as our daughter's pediatric provider.

That…read moreis why we went forward with their suggestion to put my child under anesthesia for a crown and two fillings. Less than 18 months later, the two fillings had randomly fallen out. The first was repaired in the office. When the second filling fell out, they immediately said we would need to put her under again and get a second crown. They also said that she had another cavity and would need an additional filling. This would be a minimum of $2500 out of pocket, but that is not the point. They were recommending that she go under anesthesia for a second time, a second crown, and an additional filling. I did not feel comfortable about the recommendation and took her for a second opinion. She needed no dental work of any kind. There was no additional cavity anywhere. She did not need another crown. When I showed the proposed treatment plan to the new dentist, they discovered it called for a root canal on a baby tooth. South Gaston Pediatric Dentistry had not even mentioned that to me. Please do not take your child here. I almost allowed them to put my child under general anesthesia for absolutely no reason. There is no excuse for giving an unnecessary treatment plan like this. When I spoke to management at South Gaston Pediatric Dentistry they refunded our deposit immediately. She simply said "I am sorry that happened to you." They never even defended their actions. I believe that is because they do this on a regular basis.

The dentist was amazing too and explained everything that they were going to do and will due in the future and it very much helped my son with his anxiety about the dentist. I arrive promptly at 4 pm, no one was at the reception desk for check-ins. So I'm in the waiting room, and I dont get called back until 4:30 pm. I told the lady (office manager ??) That I had another appointment at 5:15, and would I be out in enough time. Her response we'll do an exam and xrays and reschedule your cleaning. After the exam and xrays, its 5pm. The same lady states she would call me to reschedule my cleaning. Here it is a week later, no phone call, email, nothing. I will not return to this office.
