I cannot tell you what this place does for the soul. My recent work has left a void in my life, and that void is hot yoga. So every chance I get to practise now, no matter where, I make the trek there.
I looked on Yelp and found two Bikram studios in Amsterdam and decided to come here since I was going to be in the neighborhood that day.
I came here for the 8pm class but arrived pretty early. The doors to the studio will not open until close to 7:30pm. If you come before, you will be locked out. When I finally was able to go in, I was trying to feign that I was a new student to Bikram. I was a new student to their studio, but not to Bikram. The lady at the counter somehow figured out that I was a counterfeit, but was nice about it. Darn it! Yes, anything to save some serious Euros!
The studio is very clean and modern. And the thing here is that there are no yucky carpets, so that limits the weird smells.
We had a Dutch instructor, who conducted the class half in Dutch and half in English. Very cool to practise Bikram in both languages, not that I understand any Dutch. The room was not that hot on the day I went, but I still did work up a sweat, I just wasn't dripping.
The showers have no soaps or shampoos or anything. So be prepared for that. They really only want you to rinse off.
Not a bad place to practise Bikram, it isn't exactly designed for beginners, but it worked for my purposes. read more
