We went on an evening when it was NOT packed, so it was easy to snag a seat at the bar. This place is a treat for the eyes. There are a lot of interior design touches that make it fun to look around and spot cool things/touches like the back wall of the bar and the lighted ceiling display. The upstairs was closed the evening we visited, but the manager allowed us to go up and take a few photos, which was kind. Speaking of the staff...the manager moves quickly, and will absolutely recognize new patrons (this isn't the type of place where you'll be casually ignored all night) There's a live DJ spinning in the corner, and he was pretty legit. The star of this review, however, is the super-hot bartender, Juno. There's an extensive list of drinks at this place, but my partner and I decided to order off-menu, asking Juno for an Old Fashioned. She was so cute. Her eyes lit up, she smiled a little, and walked away to prepare our drinks. When she came back a few minutes later with our drinks (they were truly beautiful and she'd even rimmed the glass with an twisted orange peel) she THANKED US for giving her "a real drink to make." We'd only planned to have the one drink and move on, but Juno's drinks were do damn good we decided to have another round and a shot for the road. Both my imagination and my immediate girl-crush deluded me into thinking Juno winked at me as I paid the bill and she said, "Do come back." But I'm here for the delusion and will always giggle to myself when I think of Juno's smile...and wink!

I stayed at the hotel for New Year's Eve and was able to enjoy the NYE party at the lounge. I have to say that it was PRICEY! 150 euro per ticket is definitely steep. Not sure if this is typical for European NYE parties, but this was definitely high for what it was. The party cost included a glass of champagne and one drink. The drink lines were incredibly long and the bars were set up in spaces that made it difficult to line up without getting in others' way. The dance floor was a lot of fun and they had a great DJ. It was clear that you're paying for the view! The firework show was spectacular.

Actually, I'm not sure if they were tapas or entrees, but I don't think it matters. Order a bunch because they smelled delicious. (we didn't order food because we had reservations for dinner down the street). The next time we go to this Spaarne-side lounge, it will be sunny so that we can sit outside (just two or three tables available), and we will taste the food menu. And we will stay for hours. Sit down, exchange a few words, and then get up and proceed to a private area downstairs. There, the bar is ours, and delightful food starts coming out - bacon, potato skins, salad, gazpacho, cake, and the works. Turns out the space is big enough for 30+ of the best company you could find in Haarlem. The drinks keep on flowing. The bartender is amazing, service with a smile, even recharges my iPhone 5 (now that's service). Great times were had by all. I would come back, you would come back. Several televisions to enjoy whatever sporting event is the "must see" event and a couple of dart boards at the back. I did not sample anything from the small menu but the owner (?) did walk around with a tray of what I thought were biterballen but was infact not full of mystery meat at all but some Asian noodle, good and on the house as well :) So to say the least and enjoyable experience and already recommended to some American colleagues. :D

On a side note, as a retired US Navy Chief, i noticed immediately that the woman next to us put on her coat, a Navy Peacoat, with her CTI crow on it! We were all shocked & surprised that we both served, and happened to be in this little pub far from the states!
