I have been buying and selling here for around 20 years . Thought I had a pretty good relationship with everyone ....well let me tell you a story . After my last purchase April 29 th I finally had enough . It wasn't the money it was the principal . After years of getting items that were not actually what was in the box or items where pictures did not show any damage or the true extent of the damage .Items that didn't work on and on like in the reviews I never had ever complained or even returned anything before. A lot of times I do not go preview the items . As this was so egregious I finally decided to question Joey as far as explaining why they couldn't mention or picture the fact that the oil panting I had bought appeared to have lost a knife fight . It had slashes all over the front In the paint and also had a 6 inch gash right through it . Of course I got the standard Did you preview ?But more of a gleeful one . I pressed the issue . Joey next stated to a different patron how I abuse auctions abuse auctions all over the lower mainland ... I asked him what he was talking about a few times as he walked by me to the storage warehouse .Finally it come out .... After 5 months of him acting like a total ass ,ignoring me , looking at me like he was ready to explode in anger I was clueless . I kind of thought maybe he just had personal issues..... but it was just about me and it finally came out as he came scurrying back ... THE MATTRESS ! THE MATTRESS ! I measure that mattress THREE TIMES THREE TIMES it was the right size. The mixture of joy/hate/anger in his eyes is truly unforgettable THE MATTRESS you ask ? Well I bought a new mattress Nov 12 it was a logan and cove frontier queen . When I fit it to the Malm queen fitted bed frame( I believe I also bought from big valley) it was maybe 3 -4 inches short I forget exactly but still short . I reported this and returned with no issue ..so I thought . I then purchased another queen on November 26 th from big valley to replace it . Partly my fault as I neve realized that Logan / cove actually make some of their mattresses a little shorter but still call them queens , also in my defense a seller should or might want to know this . I guess Joey had been obsessing over this for almost 6 months ,never discussing it with me. I measured it ...I saw it.... it was short .I did not lie My one return ever after all these years one that they accepted no questions .... Now I am some sort of lying cheat ? You be the judge Sure a lot of bad reviews on here ... My guess is the reason there isn't more is because pretty sure right after this one I will no longer be welcome .But like I said I had enough .Enough of all the BS ,enough of biting my tongue ,enough of pretending .I feel sorry for all the other great people and others I have encountered that work there. Like everyone else they all know , they all see it .We all just pretended not to . This is an auction where I once Sold an item where they put up three crappy pictures and never even removed it from the box . The same item shows up two auctions later with the exact same contents but laid out nicely with a wonderful photo spread and sells for a lot more ... Auction that repeatedly avoids taking pictures of items that have clearly visible and sometimes significant damage on items . Yet somone states in a review response 3 years ago the accusation is not true and " we always ensure to add additional photos of scratches , chips etc in any items being sold " ...my mistake I guess you didn't say knife wounds . An auction where it labels some items as tested and working but admittedly from a workers mouth all are not . An auction where Big valley's own auction items appear to been mysteriously bid up to more acceptable prices then sell , then the same item reappears sometimes with the exact same pictures a week or two later in the auction .Is there a lot of buyers that renege on their mattress purchases ? try search/ past auction/ mattress An auction where Mystery ( trash ) boxes are sold and probably received numerous complaints are finally removed . Responding to a negative google review you say you never look inside to see if what the seller says is true ????? Really ???? After selling them for almost two years ???? So this absolves you of responsibility ? This is only one example of each but you know what they say about smoke and fire .... All this was embodied in an email I sent asking for an explanation. This is one I frequented as a customer before, so I was familiar with the routine and folks there. When questioning the mgr. about the discrepancy between photos bid on and actual products provided(color was black in photos, a single red unit was provided) a vitriolic name calling temper tantrum erupted from the mgr. All is well if all goes well but if you have the audacity to ask or question anything, the bullying and vitriol spew forth it seems with little regard for the customer...There are many auctions to choose from in the Valley that appreciate patrons instead of verbally assault customers. We have been buying and selling there for years, but lately the female staff are rude, dismissive, and arrogant. They lose things we bring in to sell, and refuse to apologize, take horrible photos, and then when we buy anything, we find we have paid a lot of money for things that don't even work. read more

Bought an IPL laser machine. Once I get back I noticed that the key to turn on the laser was missing. I called and advised them and they said would look into it. This was on a Thursday. When no one had called back by Monday I once again called and got Joey who said that since I had called on Thursday, it wasn't the best timing as they would be busy and to give them more time to look into it and that they would call me back. Waited till the following Monday, since I hadn't heard from anyone and I called again and the lady I spoke to said that they had spoken to the consignee and that he said he had provided the key, and she proceeded to say that maybe I had lost the key. I advised that was not the case and it was possible that someone previewing the item might have taken it. She said she would look at the video and see if anyone went near the machine and advise. Then on Wednesday I get a call back from the lady who says that they had in fact got their facts wrong and they hadn't actually spoken to the consignee the first time but when they actually did speak to him this time he advised them that no key was ever provided. I said the listing never mentioned that no key is included and that none of the 5 or 6 pictures that were included in the listing showed the key slot. So they obviously took this laser machine on consignment knowing very well there was no key included and misleadingly sold it without mentioning no key is included an of course not showing the key slot. I tried to explain to her that without the key, the machine is a paperweight. She said the only way they could help me out was by helping me sell it and that I would probably get close to what I had paid for it ($169 with tax). I explained to her that no one is going to bid on it without a key. Not sure if they were going to try and sell it without mentioning that no key is included and put the same pictures on as last time or what, but I didn't want to be a part of that. Of course they wouldn't take responsibility and issue a refund since they said it was too late since they had already paid the consignee. Why even mention that it's too late to issue a refund if it's not their fault? If they had taken my calls seriously and looked at it in a timely manner maybe they could have dealt with this before issuing the payment to the consignee. The way I see it is they should take full responsibility since they failed to mention or show that no key is included when they fully knew when they took the item for consignment that it wasn't available. It's quite sad that they don't appreciate/value their customers, especially since I have spent thousands of dollars with them over the years. It's also unfortunate that they've gone down so much over the years in terms of integrity and honesty. If you'd like to deal with a business that has unethical business practices and that has zero accountability and will never admit any wrongdoing then go ahead and give them your hard earned cash. If you think I'm just blowing smoke, just look at all the 1 star reviews and decide for yourself. I think you'd be better served by going to Sam over at Able Auctions just down the street. read more

Have been purchasing from them for a few years, but today ended that. Last week I bought something from them, the box was completely sealed; opened it up to find three pieces missing. Can't be used. This happens too often at that place. And I have also had the pleasure (not!) of dealing with the younger blonde. She was horrible!! I'm so done. read more

Sadly just can't stay silent. I have been going to auctions on and off for years. Over the past several month's I've been going a lot more as there are numerous items I've been looking for. It feels like a garage sale & goes way to long so most of the time I bid online instead. I have purchased items at this auction on 6 different occasions. 4 of those times I've been sold trash. 1) Box of 8 Bubble Machines & 3 Starwars BB8 in boxes. All boxes were taped completely shut so couldn't check. ALL bubble machines broken & ALL Starwars were missing parts so didn't work. ALL went in the garbage. $35 2) Large Lot of Wooden Pens, few lose & most still in cardboard boxes. Got them & all of the Cardboard boxes were empty, so I picked up & Pd for their garbage. $40 3) Brand New Assembled Vanity-went to pick up with friend & whole thing broke into a bunch of pieces & was completely damaged $240 4) Headphones like new in original packing & box. One side doesn't work. $35. Didn't complain about any of these (although really tempted with the vanity) & still stupidly went back. But here is the Icing on the cake: Most of the staff are very nice, seems like a family owned business, BUT their is a young Blond haired girl that works in the office sometimes that should not be there. It's obvious that she is a spoiled entitled brat that has been forced to get a job there, perhaps a relative of the owners. I can't believe she is allowed to deal with the public what a horrible representation of their business. I had 2 friends that I had pick things up for me tell me about her several weeks ago because she was a complete b##tch to them. (My friends are very respectful polite older gentlemen) but I didn't know who they were talking about as I had always dealt with an older lady who was very pleasant. Today I had the misfortune of dealing with the younger blond girl. All I can say is unbelievable, she would not work for me that's for sure and it's the final straw. I will not be back! read more

this was my favorite auction place because the staff was so laid back and generally nice. but after multiple purchases over the years, the quality of goods is abysmal. just paid 150$ to take their merchandise to the recycling center. i can't even pass this crap off to value village with a clear conscience. now... normally i would suck it up cuz that's the nature of auctions... sometimes you get garbage... but this pile of crap was advertised as "collectibles", not boxes of scrunched up newspaper, empty plastic juice bottles and food packaging, preschool crayon drawings , shoes that were actually turning back into compost... i mean ACTUAL garbage. if you can't be there to inspect the items first hand, don't risk it! read more

I love this auction, been going for quite a few years now. I have always found the staff super helpful, they help find my items and are the only ones who help actually load my vehicle. In the end it is an auction, I do recommend previewing or phoning in to have the staff check out the items for you if you are unsure of the condition. Any issue I have ever brought to their attention has always been made right! read more

I have had bad experiences there. Just a sign thrown up on the door and poof closed for 2 weeks to go on vaction. No updates to the website, no forehand notice. Low quality items compared to other auction houses in the lower mainland I hate to say it but the sally anne has better stuff at times. I have probably spent 2-300 bucks at big valley, other houses I spend over 2 grand a month. Outdated website and the catalog is small print and always different than the printed catalog. The auctioneer is slow too. Save yourself the hassle and try other auction houses which are more professional and have the website and staff to match. Ziggy read more
