This crab guards the entrance of the Rockport Beach, one of the finest beaches in Texas. Rockport is known for its seafood that they catch here. The blue crab is one of them! Rockport previously had another crab statue that was on top of a seafood restaurant. It lived there from the 1950's to about the 1970's when it fell into disrepair due to hurricane damage. However, in 2012, artist David Allgood unveiled a bigger better crab. Rockport is really into the arts, and this is a great example! It's across the street from a sculpture garden, and compliments the area nicely! Don't worry, this statue doesn't say anything about the disposition of people from Rockport, they're friendly! The funny thing about this crab is that it's a hermaphrodite. It is a male crab with female claws.

This coastal-themed gallery is in a nice little retail space, right across from the Winery on the Bay in the Rockport Arts District. They keep regular hours, but they also have a monthly Arts Walk that the Arts Council coordinates, and they stay open late, serve up some wine, beer and cheese, and show off their greatest works! I really enjoyed the nautical themed paintings, as well as the ones of the local Aransas County wildlife. They also do frames, which look really neat! The owner, Mike was super friendly, let the dog come on in too! The shop was super clean, well lit and fun to visit! Rockport has a reputation for being a funky arts town, and this gallery does a great job of representing!

A lot of smart committed people live here and dedicated their efforts to getting a new one built. This little town has become a snap shot of what a large part of the Texas Gulf Coast has always been. Ryoichi Suzuki's sculptures were such a wonderful surprise, and I'm so excited that Susie Black will be the featured artist at the festival in July! I'm so thrilled to now own this sunglass case. It's too beautiful to use! The student art display was another highlight--there was a piece on cats and another on dogs, and I adored both. The detail in each work was amazing. These young artists are incredibly talented. I can't wait to go back. I'm also including a video of the area and some of the beautiful murals that surround the art center, so you can see the whole area and get the whole experience. What a wonderful place to visit! There's all kinds of great art booths selling cool paintings, clothing, signs and other great works of art. All the greatest local businesses come out and show off their wares! There is also a gumbo competition! Rockport is known for its seafood- the gumbo here is heavenly. You can go to the competition, and get cups for a few bucks each and try them all. The live music is always on key- with different acts each night. It focuses on country music. There's also a midway, where you can ride the rides! Loopty-loops and Gravitrons abound! Yeehaw! There's plenty of restrooms and lots of beer available (all of it is in 16oz containers!) Be sure to check out this festival and see the best of Rockport!

The breeze felt nice, the drinks hit the spot, and we had so much fun watching the crew interact with the kids! For one cruise in the evening you get entertainment, a dolphin watch party at the front of the ship, and a sunset cruise. I would do it again in a heartbeat! So much fun packed into 2 hours.
