Big Spring State Park is a small drive thru park in west Texas. I enjoyed having lunch at a secluded picnic table looking out over the city. Great place to bring the family and there is one walking trail. It felt peaceful here.

This stop on a Texas road trip was absolutely one of my favorites, even though it was never on my "must do" list for the trip. My husband and I did the short nature trail a couple of times because we liked it so well. We saw about a dozen small lizards (salamanders maybe? I'm not sure), tons of different butterflies, and gorgeous wildflowers and cacti. I'd call the trail easy but not accessible to individuals who use wheelchairs as it is unpaved with some slightly steep and rocky areas. If you do use a walking/hiking stick normally, I'd bring it along. It was a really beautiful April afternoon when we visited and I have a feeling it will just get prettier as the spring and summer progress! We saw absolutely zero trash here, which was refreshing for a state park. It reminded me more of a miniature version of a national park. Great scenic overlooks all around the park, too.

Seems like a nice little park for the city. We were just driving through and wanted to check it out. It's a tiny day use park, lots of people jogging, walking and using the picnic areas.

The walk/run to the top is great- the view of Big Spring from the top is spectacular. The Prairie Dog Village is cute during the summer if you get a chance to stop by during the season.

    Great view

We had to go down via the Nature Trail to get back before it was too dark.

Holy cow! How does this park not have any reviews?!!! So we are somewhat new to midland and my kids…read moreand I have been visiting the same 2 playgrounds since we've gotten here. Wanting to venture out and see what else was out there I went to the Midland parks and recreation website and found a list of playgrounds in the area. We decided to go to Grafa Park today and WOW! It. Is. AWESOME!! The playground is HUUUUUUGE! There is so much to do on it: climb, slide, explore! It's super tall too (which, with a 18mo, I had to get up there with him because the openings for the ladders make me SUPER nervous.) But, hey, it was so much fun for me too!!! The slides are GREAT! There is also a huge walking track around the reservoir(???) I think that's what it is. My kids (and I) LOVED it! We brought a sub sandwich, chips and our drinks and had a picnic at one of the many picnic tables here. There are also plenty of benches and shade trees too! So glad we found this park! We can't wait to come back!!!!

And best of all, lots of SHADY TREES! We've found an evening walk here to be a nice way to wind down the day. It's very relaxing as there's often a cool breeze funneling under the trees and a high gate between the park and the road to protect from all the cars. Nestled enough within a neighborhood that it isn't dusty (locals know what I'm saying!) and full of people playing with their dogs and families until sun down, so it feels very safe. About the dogs - they've always been good boys and girls and we have had no problems at all with them. However, we have found a lot are actually off leash when they play so just an FYI, if it's not your thing.

Easily one of the nicest playgrounds we've been to…read more We're on a journey from San Antonio to Colorado Springs via Santa Fe with an 11 month old and a 3 year old. We plan stops every 3ish hours. Kid's Kingdom was one such stop. Obviously I peeped the pics ahead of time, so I was expecting a pretty nice large play area.. but we all know pics can be deceiving. Not here. The mulch, grass, fences, and equipment are all really well maintained. The picnic area and trash cans are kept clean. It's right across from the San Angelo River walk (which is really pretty, but we didn't check it out). There's a little body weight type of work out spot just a few feet away under the bridge, and plenty of benches or spots to sit on all throughout the equipment. My personal favorite thing about the playground was the tandem baby swing. My youngest loves swinging, but she gets a real quick when I get to do it with her! My oldest got a kick out of the huge sandbox (I didn't so much) Down sides? Even though there are a few covered spots sprinkled throughout the equipment, and a little shade from the surrounding trees, most of the playground gets direct sunlight. It's summer time in TX, so it was a cool 98-100 degrees while we were there. Some canopies would've made a huge difference! Also, even though the outhouse style (although flushable) toilets were kept generally clean, the smell of sewage was pretty severe when you got close. Yuck. Overall, though, great playground!

They have a tot section for smaller kids. It was well kept when we went, no trash or graffiti. Picnic tables right outside the playground with plenty of parking.
