Big Rusty is a large troll sculpture built by Danish sculptor Thomas Dambo. Dambo made the sculpture using only materials found on the site, a former pottery factory. When visiting, you can also see parts of the abandoned building, including an open courtyard with large graffiti art. It's seriously cool what has emerged from actual trash and rubble. Highly recommend going. No charge to enter. Notes: there is parking at the site. You must approach from eastbound NJ-38as you cannot make a left from the westbound lanes. There are no signs, the landmark is a law office sign next door.

Rusty was hard to find but worth it when we did catch him. The area gave me spooky vibes at first but then I started really looking and exploring and the building he's in front of was awesome.

Easy to find - follow directions. Cool to see in person if you're in the area. Watch out for poison ivy and people just hanging out.

Not to mention cheap - just $5 for adults and $2 for kids. Opened in 1811, closed in 1965, and reopened as a museum just one year later in 1966, it's a fascinating look at one aspect of our country's history. The whole building, including the exercise yard with accompanying gallows, is open to the public. Signs throughout the building and small exhibits were incredibly helpful and informational. The woman who sold us admission was very friendly and helpful, and there were two other employees who were giving free tours around the building. If you're into haunted places, this place is also apparently a hotbed of paranormal activity and has hosted many investigators over the years. The main cell upstairs where the most hardened criminals spent their last nights on earth is allegedly where the most activity is. The prison is also right in downtown Mt. Holly so it's easy to make a day of it and walk to one of the many restaurants on the Main Street and explore the historic buildings. Definitely recommended!

You could easily tour this museum in 30 minutes to an hour depending on how much you stop to read the signs. I was hoping to experience some type of paranormal activity but nothing. I think it's def worth stopping at. Staff were very nice and informative.

Town of Mt Holly - No doubt that is was a mill town

Town of Mt Holly

A hard working…read moretown Mount Holly, New Jersey got it start way back in 1677 when Walter Reeves acquired or perhaps stole the land from the indigenous Lenape natives. It was named Northampton by 1688 and was a farming and agricultural community because that's what people did back then. Over the years, decades, and centuries the little town grew until by the 19th century it was a vigorous and thriving mill and factory town. Goods were manufactured and shipped all over the world. Lots of German and Irish immigrants ended up here to work hard in the mills and start families. The town kept growing and developed a reputation for making fine products. Wars came and went, floods happened, some mills shut down and others opened. People were born and others died. Time pasted peacefully for the town and for the most part it's people were happy and healthy. Then in the 1950's the mills and factories started shutting down, put out of business by foreign manufacturers that could produce the same items at less cost. People began moving out of the town to find other places to work. People were born and others died. Like most towns Mt Holly has it's share of famous or distinguished people that started life here. James Abert, the explorer, Paul Doguereal, the pianist, France Harris, a football player, Geraldine Little, the poet, John Woolman, anti-slavery advocate, Barbara Parks, children's writer and Sonja Verdell Olson all first got their taste of life in Mount Holly. In the 70's the malls out in the suburbs started springing up and put further economical strain on the town because the local businesses started disappearing. Since then the town has struggled at times but manage to stay alive. The population continues to decrease but new incentives have revived some of the stores and businesses in the center of the town. Today Mount Holly is a fascinating place that makes no attempt to hide it's old mill origins. Some cool murals and paintings on walls, pleasant little restaurants and historic houses. Nice festivals and art and crafts shows and always, very, very nice, honest and hard working people. A town with a prosperous past, peaceful present and of course an uncertain future. Always was and always will be a hard working small town that is never afraid to show what it was and what it is. Never anything pretentious or phony. A town where people live, love and work. A lovely place to visit and probably a better place to live. A town where very special people are born and very special people die.

My friend got married this past Saturday and had her reception here (I was in the bridal party)…read more To start off, the bridal suite is located upstairs (which is nice because it ensures that your items are locked away and safe). The bridal suite branched off into a groom's suite as well which was amazing! We were also served some fruit, veggies, cheese and crackers and some champagne while we were waiting for the cocktail hour to start. So delicious!! The grounds are gorgeous and perfect for photos! I am excited to see how they turned out once my friend gets her pictures back. This location is absolutely stunning! The cocktail hour ran an extra half hour which was so nice and all of the food was absolutely DELICIOUS. There were so many options to choose from, it was food stations in addition to butler service walking around! I tried the popcorn chicken, the barbecue chicken, chicken & waffles, quesadilla, bacon wrapped steak and a variety of other foods I can't even remember. In addition, my friend was able to have THREE signature drinks! (The His, the Ours, and the Hers). I tried both the Ours and the Hers, and my favorite was definitely the Hers! The reception itself was beautiful, and I love that they incorporated some Polish traditions that meant a lot to the bride (as her parents and family members are all from Poland). They were extremely accommodating of the customs/traditions which was amazing! I believe the tables fit between 8-10 people, our table was at 10 (which was a little crowded) but after Dinner everyone got up to get drinks, dance, mingle, etc so it worked out fine! Typically with weddings, you have to "pre-order" your entree, but at this venue, you can order on site which was very nice! Dinner was delicious but also very filling (due to the cocktail hour food), we even had the option of ordering ANOTHER entree to try as well! In addition, there was the bride and groom's cake, PLUS a dessert that we were able to order. I think that our desserts might have gotten messed up with another table, because a lot of us ordered the peanut butter explosion, but were given some sort of cookie cup/icecream dessert. Regardless, it was still delicious and I was so full I could only eat a little of it. We had a great night and are so happy for our friend and her husband!!

They had assigned seating which I was super thankful for (we arrived a few minutes late, so I was afraid of it being too crowded and potentially not being able to sit together). They set up our easels so cute!! Our instructor was Emily, she was really sweet and helpful and was also cracking jokes with the other painters. All of the employees at this location were super kind and helpful! The painting that we did was super beginner-friendly (since I am not an amazing painter) which I greatly appreciated! My friend and I absolutely LOVED the drag show! The drag queens were super friendly and funny! My friend and I each got picked to do a game/activity and we won some prizes! My friend won a trucker hat and I won a drawstring bag with a fan, rubber duck, bracelet, etc! I posted some pictures from the event and all three of the queens commented on my Instagram post which was super cool!

With scenic walking trails, an outdoor classroom, day camps and a small indoor animal habitat, Briar Bush is a great spot for small children, couples on a date, or anyone looking for a brief respite from the urgency of the modern world. With free admission for locals and a small fee for out-of-towners, the preserve is accessible to all patrons provided that they are able to walk down some wooded trails that circle through the admittedly short walking routes. The centerpiece of the trails is a picturesque, secluded pond with benches for sitting and an interactive sign with information on the local fauna and flora. The indoor animal habitat has a small gift shop, pamphlets on upcoming events and information on other parks in the area, and several interesting animals such as a blind possum named Odin, a bearded lizard named Karl, and several other unique turtles and reptiles. All of Briar Bush can be walked through in an hour or so, but the low admission, interactive nature events and scenic walking trails will have you wanting to return again soon.

I know what poison ivy looks like, and when it's in hairy vine form, it can choke a tree and kill it. There was a wildlife sanctuary in the neighborhood that I grew up in as a child, and many of the trees almost died because they were being choked by poison ivy. Hairy vine, no friend of mine. But, on a more positive note, they have some animals that you can pet (when they are being presented by a lecturer), including rabbits, rats, and snakes, plus a turtle. In fact, now, as I am typing this, I remember coming here as a kid with school and Cub Scouts and my family as well, and I remember Boo the Rat (R.I.P!) and I remember a turtle who came to Briar Bush after being fed dog food by its owner. Eww. Bottom line, presentation is everything. One thing that I personally don't mind but that wildlife and some other visitors are probably irritated by is the fact that SEPTA's Warminster Line runs behind Briar Bush with a train going by every so often.
