And we always find a treasure to take home. Riverview Antiques is a spacious shop nestled among a line of similarly charming shops near the Ohio and Muskingum rivers in downtown Marietta. My wife and I love to start our river crawl at Riverview Antiques by the Ohio River, and gradually, shop by shop, make our way down Front Street until we can rest our feet and sink our teeth into homemade fudge at Favorite Things. Riverview is operated by knowledgeable gentlemen who really know (A) where to find cool antiques, and (B) how to present them in a store so that you feel like you're in a time machine and walking around someone's living room 100 years ago. And the prices are pretty good, too. Don't leave Marietta without checking them out.

Our fifth & final stop today was the Marietta Antique Mall in downtown Marietta Ohio. Free parking, dim lighting and very musty smelling. Now this one level older building has a good size free parking lot and it's a little dim inside (could use some additional lighting to brighten & cheer it up) Tons of Fenton in this shop!!! But hey, Fenton Factory across Ohio River in Williamson, WV. Didn't buy anything very very expensive!!! Be sure to wear a sweater or jacket because it is very chilly in there. Although I mostly shopped on foot, it was always nice to know that on cold nights, I was more than welcome to drive-up to one of the two windows they have (and by windows, I mean ghetto sliders) and order my case of Natty Light right from the comfort of my driver's seat. It does sell clothing, hats and jewelry, most with that bohemian and funky vibe, but most of it's found in the back. I was surprised with how much folk decor and country craft replications they had. I was originally expecting something closer to a head shop than a Hallmark. I heard from some locals they have classes and events at the shop and around town, including crochet, Fairy Picnics for kids (this involves wings, apparently), Henna and Hoola-Hop workshops. All pretty funky and all sound very fun. As they also say they're "the hippest shop around" but we're talking Marietta, remember, soooo... Just kidding. What this shop does in the community is great and I hope they continue. Definitely go in and check them out for there's so much variety you might just find something for you or a gift. S.W.A.G.G.
