On a whim, we opted to pivot to Wyoming and see if we can take a 5th state win in the Hop Passport Amazing Brewery Race 2025. This was stop 1 of 9, after a 7.5hr drive from Minot, ND & it's definitely one of the most interesting so far. The meade is a hefty 18% &, with the Hop Passport discount, our 2 3.5oz pours came to $3.50 (before tip). We added a 4-pack of house brews (not yet tested, currently in the cooler) for the thirsty Thursday deal of $15/4-pk! Staff were friendly and the meade is certainly intriguing. The 2 styles we tried were crazy woman, Hibiscus infused (because I'm apparently willing to drink or eat ANYTHING with Hibiscus, my current favorite is lemonade gin & hibiscus but that's off point) & orange coriander (not yet available in bottles.) This place is a cool concept. They serve a ton of meads as well as some beers. They also make cocktails out of the meads they make. I opted to get a flight to try a variety of drinks they offer. The crazy woman mead and honeys worth cocktail were my favorite! Very refreshing. Inside is huge with a ton of seating and games to play. There is seating outside as well with a stage for bands to come play. This place and Ranch & Roost are a combined enterprise as you can have a drink and then go order food. Yikes! At first blush, this seemed like a great lunch spot. Big outdoor space and burger/chicken place for food next door. Our large group of families came to eat and relax while here for a baseball tournament. But due to some concerning and bizarre behavior by the apparent owners, we will not be returning. Our kids were playing basketball, 4-square, tetherball, and playing with toys outside. After we had been there for 2 hours (1-3pm) the owner came out and used profanity telling us our kids had been throwing the plastic rings that were there for kids' toys, and that our kids had been taking sticks from a dead tree in the courtyard. Our first reaction was incredibly apologetic. The owners said they had addressed the kids about their behavior, and it had not improved. We remained apologetic. But the owners then went on a tirade. I calmly told them that if they were upset all they needed to do was to let the parents know. We would have happily corrected any issues. FYI, our kids are aged 4-8, and they were all playing appropriately. The female owner told me we were not watching our children, which is absolutely ridiculous. The male owner got extremely aggressive with us when we were trying to leave and went in to pay our bill and close the tab. He even behaved in a physically aggressive manner towards multiple dads in our party. Fortunately, the men in our group found the owner's behavior not worthy of response. I have been to this brewery multiple times, (never before when the owners were there) but I will not be returning. We travel with our kids frequently, and they know how to behave. There were 10 of us parents there, and I am an extraordinarily strict parent who has no problem correcting my or my friends' children. We had multiple teachers in our group as well and they don't put up with any nonsense either. Our kids were doing exactly what kids do... playing and having fun. They were obviously supervised and our group was running up a decent tab and patronizing this business. This was such a bizarre, disheartening experience. I don't know why you would have this kind of outdoor space if you don't want kids/families there. Never experienced anything like it before. The male owner used profanity, was unprofessional, physically aggressive, and certainly not behaving in a manner benefiting his business. The female owner did nothing to help the situation. Their handling on the situation was so irrational and disproportionate I have to wonder if alcohol or other outside factors were involved. I'm sure their response to this would paint our kids as little gremlins, but that's simply not the case. read more

I love to check out local breweries and the idea that this place also had a meadery was very intriguing. The group of people I was with ordered both flights of the meads so that we could try all 8. I know that mead is an acquired taste and not for everyone; with that being said we had a lair of fun and most of us enjoyed the meads I also had the Irish Red beer and it was a very smooth red beer. I will definitely go back next time we are visiting friends and try some of the food that they offer as well as some of the mixed drinks that they make with the mead. read more

Looks like its been a while since the last review, so here is a new review... Looks like the location has moved and expanded out to a larger and more comfortable setting. The move must have been dictated by their success, because this shit is good. I highly recommend the "Crazy Woman" , which is a hibiscus infused mead. Should be a good drink for the newcomers as well as the seasoned Víkingr... They also have beer and wine for the uninitiated, which is great, because not all plunderers have a sweet tooth. The decor is cool, blending the rustic with the viking mead hall aesthetic, due to the swords, battle axes, and mounted animal trophies. All in all, I wish I wasnt on a road trip, cause I would love to come back here! read more

Craft meaderies are much rarer than breweries but this place has them both. What's more you can drink your mead straight out of a horn the way the Vikings did, helmet, axe and all. We wandered in here after pizzas and down the street. I liked the laid back chairs. The stucco peeled back revealing white washed brick walls was a nice look too. They offer tours too. Mead is a much stronger substance and you really need to watch yourself. Akin to your family reunion punch bowl, a few sips and someone better have your car keys. The folks who work here are warm. Its easy to get familiar and start a conversation here. They stared making a mead-slushy too. Nice! Really enjoyed this place. read more

The wife and daughter and I stopped in while we were in Gillette and we were not disappointed. Rainer and Chelsea were extremely helpful. We tried a couple of different meads, then tried a flight of different meads, they were so good we ended up leaving with 4 bottles. Another great thing about Big Lost is that they are dog friendly, I actually ran back to the Air BnB we were staying at and brought our Ridgeback pup and Bulldog back with me. Loved this place. Wife and I were in Gillette for business and walking up and down Gillette Street stumbled into here. I've had mead before but these guys make an art of it. Multiple flavors and textures and a wealth of knowledge offered by a great guy (Sam?) who is not only very proud of this place, as he should be, but obviously passionate about it. I got a kind of smoked mead with a hint of whiskey flavor to it (at least to my nose). They also make mead based mixed drinks so my wife got a mead mule. Well crafted stuff. You've got to at least stop in and, if he can, let the mead tender give you an explanation of what they have. read more

My family and I discovered BL 2 years ago on our way to Yellowstone and fell in love with mead. Fast forward 2 years and we have yet to find another mead we like. And we've searched! My GF and I randomly stopped by this place while killing some time on a cross country trip. We happened to meet the owner Sam who graciously gave us an awesome history lesson and tour of his meadery, which he seemed very proud of. I can tell you that on our 4000+ mile trip we have found nothing as cool as this place and the owner (Sam). It has a great story and the decor is almost all fabricated from local wood and supplies. Built by a group of family and friends, it is a great place. The mead is fantastic and the atmosphere couldn't be better. If you are ever within 200 miles of Gillette Wyoming, take a detour and patronize this business. They deserve your money and you deserve to experience this great little gem in a small Wyoming town. read more

Alrighty so apparently these guys were not up on Yelp yet so I took it upon myself to add them. I met Jeff, one of the workers, at the Gillette Brewing Company (also not on yelp) when I was out in WY for an interview. Incredibly nice guy, gave me a background on the Meadery and the guy, Sam, who owns it. Then offers to take me down for a tour of the facility even though it won't open for the next few hours. So of course I said yes! What they've done with the place is absolutely incredible. All of the mead is served out of a horn and made in-house in small batches. Great atmosphere and you can see the amount of work these guys put into it. I would definitely recommend stopping buy here to grab a horn of mead and meet some fantastic people!
