Best food in town. Period. Family owned and operated restaurant. Specializes in classic american fare plate lunches. Everything is homemade and tastes super fresh. Get here early because it fills up quick!

If you are ever in Mt. Carmel, you have to stop in this quaint little lunch box.

Talk about down home cookin. This was absolutely delicious. We had eight at our table and everyone went home stuffed because we couldn't stop eating. The pies looked awesome, but no room.

Rueben sandwhich and dbl cheeseburger. Dbl cheese was more than enough to fill up a grown man.

Great food and superb PIES! It gets busy at lunchtime, but not so busy that you won't get a table and fine service.

I then moved on to a slice of coconut cream pie, which was the right move.

It's literally a stone's throw from Haub's Steakhouse where I've been many times over the past 40 years. My in-laws have been bragging on this place the past couple of years, even saying it is better than the legendary Log Inn located a few miles south. Since the Log Inn is #1 on my list of places to enjoy family-style fried chicken, my wife and I had to check this place out to compare. We had a reservation for 8 and were seated in the cozy stand alone room just inside the entrance to the left. We were greeted by our server Micah who had a wonderful smile and very warm welcome (Midwest, small town, charm). She was friendly, eager to serve, and a great promoter of the place. Having called ahead and notified we were having family-style, our food arrived within 10 minutes of our arrival. We enjoyed the pepper Jack nuggets as our appetizer and they were very tasty. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection with a crispy skin coating. The mashed potatoes and milk gravy were very good as well. We enjoyed corn and green beans as our vegetables and the vinegar Cole slaw was a nice complement to the meal. Giant glasses of sweat tea completed the meal! There's no question we will return again in the future, but feel the Log Inn is a cut above in comparison. In fairness, we have many fond memories of family gatherings and celebrations over the years at the Log Inn and it's a staple when we come to town. Don't sell the Carriage Inn short however. It's history is rich and food is delicious.

I would've given a five star review but the service was very slow and 2 stars at best. It could have been more prompt and efficient. We waited for seven minutes before our first acknowledgement by our waiter/ server. It was just my girlfriend and myself. Once the waiter finally came to the table and took our order a lot time had lapse. Never once did come to ask how the food was once our main entrée was delivered. He asked how everything was when he presented the check. During the wait for him to return to the table to take our dessert order, there was a bus boy at the nearby table clearing another table. I asked him to take a plate that was left on our table and he said that the servers job I don't do that. I told him no you need to take it now and he gave me a rather rude look and stare. The intervals from which the waiter came back to the table was very long. It would've helped if the chairs had been padded but they were hard with like school room chairs. The dining room was decorated very nice and the decor and artwork is very tasteful. Music was a little loud. The food was exceptionally good from the appetizer to the main course to our dessert. It was exceptional. That is five stars ONLY - The service really was a lot to be desired for a good tip and review.
