I loved the design style, and I felt confident that working with Celia would help bring my vision to life. She was the first person my fiancé and I reached out to because we were excited--although admittedly we were new to the process and still exploring our options. I had no idea that wedding production and wedding planning were two different services; I assumed one person handled everything. As a planner myself in other areas, I was still trying to figure out what best fit my needs. During our first consultation, I really liked Celia. I felt we connected well, and she understood my vision. She even suggested an additional ceremony venue we hadn't considered, which we genuinely appreciated. My father went ahead to book the venue because two were not available. My parents trusted my judgement and simply wanted to invite her to eat at the reception restaurant we had booked. We were not trying to begin planning right away--just extending kindness. Instead of having a conversation with us first, Celia emailed a 12‑month contract without discussing any sort of plan. I felt pressured, so I asked if we could look at her 6‑month package instead because everything was happening so fast in just one week. While continuing consultations with other planners, I realized what I actually needed was a 1‑ to 3‑month planner. Since she did not offer a 3‑month option, I requested the 1‑month package. Celia responded stating that we had "used her for a suggestion" and had "downgraded her services" after booking the venue. My fiancé and I wrote a long apology explaining the timing, our misunderstanding of wedding service roles, and that we never intended to undervalue her work. We expressed empathy for how she might have felt and communicated that we still wanted to work things out. She never responded. From a business‑owner standpoint, I believe communication is everything. Even if we weren't the right fit, a simple reply would have gone a long way. We originally sought Celia (owner of Big Day Service) out to decorate the restaurant for our marriage banquet. She was full of great ideas and had many photos that we could look at of her past work to help us visualize. I had already hired a drapery and uplighting crew, but I knew I needed some floral design to help complete the decorations. I REFUSED to pay for real flowers at my wedding because I knew it could be pricey and they would just die. My bouquet was even a broach bouquet. My centerpieces were wine bottles and candles. I looked for alternative for flowers, and that when I ran into BDS on Yelp. I saw their photos, and I can see that BDS did all sorts of different decorations, not just floral. We hired Big Day Service for florals, backdrop, and month of coordination package. We had an amazing experience and can't thank Celia and her team enough for everything! We had the pleasure of working with Celia throughout the process who was always super helpful and supportive of us. Our wedding was 2.5 months ago and we are still in awe at how incredibly it all came together! We had no idea how much work actually goes into wedding planning. Luckily for us, we were referred to Celia by the restaurant manager (HL Peninsula) and went in for a consultation with zero expectations. She was very detailed, thorough, and kindly answered my every question. One of the first things she said to us was, "Don't worry, I cannot stand tacky." As long as you are clear enough with your likes/dislikes, she will listen and interpret them in a tasteful way. Celia has multiple packages where you can have her be as involved as A to Z or minimally. We selected her decoration package that was one notch below the grandest option and planning services that was moderately involved. Based on her experience, she knows how quickly decisions need to be made and how long it would take to produce or procure decorations. As picky as I was, she had to present several backdrop ideas to us and in the end, designed something that was unique and elegant. If you require bi-lingual services, Celia is a master at both! Since our Chinese speaking skills are super basic, she did most of the communication for us with the restaurant. She understood what we wanted and was able to coordinate with the manager. She also communicated with our parents in Chinese throughout the planning process and made our seating chart with English and Chinese names. Celia certainly takes pride in her work and does not compromise quality. Each vendor that she has in her back pocket are great. Our florals were gorgeous. I told her I wanted dark flowers and she made sure all the arrangements looked absolutely lovely. She recommended William Trang as our photographer and not only did he produce beautiful work, he made us feel comfortable in front of the camera. Our Emcee, Jimmy was super sweet and had the right touch of humor to entertain our multi-cultured guests. Our DJ, Kelvin, was amazing. Sound quality, music selection, and timing was all on point. He was also able to spontaneously accommodate guests who wanted to perform a few songs. We almost had bartender issues but, in the end, Celia recommended Heart & Honey and our guests loved the bartenders who served at our wedding. Our tent for the ceremony was potentially a disaster but Celia argued and advocated on our behalf. We gave her additional people to work with as well - donut vendor, candy station who was done by a friend, my makeup artist (also a friend), and a florist who did our centerpieces. By the time we entered the venue, things were simply set, and I did not have to worry about a single thing. We stayed on schedule and everything went smoothly. Hiccups are inevitable throughout the process, but how you and your planner/coordinator handle it makes all the difference. We wouldn't have been able to handle planning the wedding ourselves. Whenever someone ask if we needed any help, we would response, oh Celia is doing that for us already. As for the decor, Celia is definitely a perfectionist and goes above and beyond to personalize the theme and decor to what we've envisioned. Her decor service is not templatized like many other vendors. On the day of, as many may have predicted, SOMETHING will go wrong. I would strongly recommend Big Day Service to anyone getting married in the Bay Area. Celia was very friendly and very professional during the consultation. She handled all the planning, gave us a lot of great advice, recommended places where we could get wedding cakes and DIY decorations, and made sure that we understood each part of the plan. Having Celia do all the planning and coordinating really relieved a lot of stress on me and my wife and allowed us to focus more on our friends and family. On our wedding day, we had an army of decorators that built the most beautiful backdrop we've ever seen, an emcee to lead the events of the night, a DJ with great taste in music, and videographers to capture every moment. All of our family and friends really appreciated the decorations and flower arrangements. We hired Big Day Service for my wedding back in 2016 at Zen Peninsula. We went with the package service that includes backdrop, bouquets, photo booths, and cake decorations. Celia and her team did a great job on decorating the whole place. They went above and beyond to cover the ENTIRE fish tank and the red backdrop at Zen Peninsula. We got a lot of compliments on the backdrop and the photo booth. Many guests who had been to Zen Peninsula even asked what happened to their fish tank lol... They also do wedding dress/evening gown rental and let me tell you after trying on hundred of dresses, their gowns' quality is amazing and comparable to many prominent brands out there. What really amazed me how responsive Celia was. She always reply me within few hours. She also helped review my wedding timeline to make sure everything run smoothly on my big day.
