Quiet Trails was my find of the year!…read more I am hesitant to write a review because putting it on the Yelp map might make it a little less secretive. I only found out about this place through word of mouth from a few friends as there is very little information online. For the locals in Harrison County, Quiet Trails has been a popular hiking spot along the Licking River. This year-round hiking trail loops 1.7 miles down to the river and back up. The loop is actually two different trails that meet up at the same point - so you can choose to go down and up the same path, or go back on the other path. We initially choose what we thought was the more difficult path (Challenger Trail) to get down to the river, and the 'easier' path back up -- but I think it should have been marked the other way around. One path is rather wide and easy to see -- the other (Deep Hollow) is very narrow and goes through some very steep areas. While some areas are clearly the path, some parts were a little bit harder to see and we had to use intuition to figure out which way to go. Yet, it is a stunningly gorgeous hike, especially on the Deep Hollow path. We were told that it would be an easy, short hike. It wasn't easy or short at all with a toddler that wanted to be carried nearly the entire time. Once we got to the river, we had a little bit of a break as he wanted to wade and splash, but we were eager to get out of the heat and back in the car. By the end of the hike, my back was so sore (can you guess who carried the kid most of the time?). We will try to come back when my child is a bit older and more willing to walk himself, or just without him on a day date. If your kids are used to hiking or over the age of five, they will most likely be fine. Also, the GPS will take you here -- but be prepared to be a bit confused as you drive through back roads to find this place. The little gravel pull-off [parking lot] with the gate and a small sign is actually the entrance to the preserve. You'll have to shimmy through the fence to get to the paths. We were so confused if we were even in the right place until we saw a person that was a seasoned hiker in this area. Thank goodness! Oh, and bring a stick to knock down some spider webs. I'm excited to come back here next summer and do more hiking!

The river park offers camping, picnicking and boating fun for the whole family. The park has 43 camp sites as well as primitive camping. Offering seasonal, monthly, weekly and daily rates. There is water and electric hook-up at each site. The park also provides a dump station, showers and restroom facilities, which are open from 8 a.m. till 10 p.m., snack shop, boat launch, boat docks and playground. If you dislike the pools in…read moreLexington, you may love this low key State Park pool, it's well worth the drive out from Lexington. This pool overlooks the lake, it's gorgeousness you see as soon as you pull into the parking lot. The only bad thing is that once you're inside of the pool area, the brick wall obstructs your view of the lake... bummer. The pool goes up to 8 feet deep. The entry fee was $4 per person, but because we were camping, we got the $1 off per person discount. This pool is located just before the registration gate of the campground, so we just walked down one morning. I didn't know that they didn't open until 11am on the weekends. So we walked down along the grassy area of the water's edge, there was even a picnic table. Yes, I was up way too early, but I just wanted to experience as much of the area that I could. They weren't ready to open at 11, so we sat down on a lounge chair just by the entry gate. When they were "ready" a young girl came out and rudely informed me that we had to pay. Not "ok, the pool is ready now, you can now pay". Really?! I attempted to pay and you said you weren't ready because the chemicals were still being tested, so I'm patiently waiting still with my coverup on. Why I couldn't I have just paid one of the three of you at the window... Not attending to the pool or its chemicals, I haven't a clue. Kids these days! Then after we paid, we had to wear an orange bracelet... annoying when you're trying to catch some rays. Overall... the pool is NICE, so I won't knock it too much for the kids.

While it maybe a little small in size compared to other parks, this one packs in a lot of…read moreinteresting stuff! It is located adjacent to the Ohio river near the small town of Chilo. There is a boat ramp, which was a very popular spot on the Sunday we visited. There is also a museum which was open on Saturdays. A lot of history is associated with Chilo lock 34 and the river around it. It once managed wicket locks (an intriguing type of river control system worth reading about) for the river. Even if the museum is closed, there are six stops around the outdoor area of the museum with signs explaining its very interesting history. A plaque marks the high level mark of the historic 1937 flood. A nice playground was adjacent to the building the museum was located in. Two yurts are available to rent, which was a unique feature. There is a covered picnic area. We decided to walk the riverfront trail. It was a very peaceful, wooded, and scenic trail that followed the river for a while and then circled back inland. Along the trail were a couple of ponds and each had a small shelter with a bench where you could bird watch. A sign listing pictures and names of birds was located at each shelter.

This park is right along the river and has really nice panoramic views of it, along with various other unique areas. As far as the main park, there are several parking areas, picnic areas, a playground, and a boat launch. There is quite a large museum but it didn't seem to be open on this day. There are many benches overlooking the water. There are fully plumbed bathrooms here. To the left side of the park there are Yurts that can be rented and then a nature preserve. The nature preserve is home to quite a few beginner level trails. Some of them run along the river, while others go around a lake. The lake trail has several overlook shelters from which to watch wildlife. There is also a marsh area with little docks to walk out on, a grassy field that has a viewing tower (currently under repair), and plenty of wildlife! All of the park is well maintained and clean!

Eventful evening for sure! I've been to many a fight and all of a sudden a race break out, but…read morethis was the first time in my life that I went to a car race and a forest fire broke out! We went over the 4th of July weekend celebration. Half way through the night they set off fireworks. A hand full of laps into the late model feature, the race was stopped so they could put out a fire that rekindled where they had previously set off fireworks. Good times!

I had a great experience with Yogoat Cincy at their recent event at Streetside Brewery - Goat Yoga…read more The evening started with getting checked in, and then setting up our mats (bring your own). Our instructor then talked to us about what to expect... that while it is a Yoga Class, it is more about the goats. The class was fun and had easy enough poses and flow for a newbie yet still fun for an experienced yogi. The goats walk around freely while you are doing the poses. There is a handler that entices them with milk to walk around the room and interact. There is another handler that is cleaning up any messes made by the goats (she did a great job of this, lets remember they are farm animals folks!) Of course during the class you can break pose and take pictures, or perhaps there will be a goat on your back! The yoga part of the class lasted about 30 mins, leaving us 30 mins to strictly interact with the goats. They were very well cared for and friendly. There was also a very sweet Standard Poodle that socialized with everyone! At the end we received a pen, magnetic flash light, and little Yogoat card. A pint of beer came with the ticket too! This is for sure a must try experience if you like animals, and want to try something new!

Upon arrival we set up our yoga mats, and they were beginning to get the goats out. The goats were very friendly and began to wander around the room. The instructor was very friendly and down to earth and led a laid back and easy to follow class. As the class was going on the goats wandered around amongst the participants. They had additional staff members walking around to clean up after the goats. After the class was over we had an opportunity to have some photo ops with the goats, including having the goats stand on our backs. It was a very fun class, and if you love animals I definitely recommend it.

Just attended the "Active Killer" class. It was excellent. The class instruction was led by an instructor that teaches law enforcement all over the country. It is something every CCW holder should seek regular training so if and when the time comes they can competently and responsibly respond.

The class was great. The instructors and facility are both top notch. The course progresses allows students to build skills at a manageable pace and the instructors are there to ensure no matter the experience level everyone experiences growth. TDI is a real gem and well worth the trip as they offer very affordable safe, effective, competent, and fun instruction. I will be back for more training.
