I thought, "wow, how nice!" but was quickly led down a road of non-communication, ignored emails, ignored texts, and a dismissive attitude. Mike was very responsive and helpful when we first inquired about his services. He answered all our questions thoroughly and even created a custom bundle deal that sounded perfect for our needs. However, after we paid the non-refundable deposit, communication became difficult. He backtracked on a few things he had previously assured us would be no problem. Ultimately, he did follow through on what was promised, but only after I had to remind him using screenshots of our earlier conversations. One of the more frustrating aspects was trying to get him to send proof of insurance directly to our venue coordinator. I reached out multiple times via email and text, but didn't receive a response until he contacted me about the remaining balance. I explained that I couldn't pay until the coordinator received the documents directly from him, as requested. He initially texted them to me instead, and when I reiterated the need for direct email delivery, he claimed my emails had gone to his spam folder. Ironically, he sent me a screenshot showing the email in his inbox, not spam. Six days before the wedding, I reached out to confirm some final details. When I didn't hear back, I followed up the next day and expressed my frustration. His response was that I was creating the issue, which felt dismissive. He then called to clarify, saying that things can get misinterpreted over text -- which may be true, but it also highlighted why he prefers phone calls, where there's no written record. Planning a wedding is incredibly personal and emotional, and vendors play a huge role in how smoothly things go. Leading up to the big day, I felt uneasy and unsure about Mike's reliability. I actually wrote this part of the review before the wedding itself, because I wanted to capture my honest experience without being influenced by how things might turn out. I'm hopeful everything goes beautifully, but I felt it was important to document the journey as it happened. As for the actual day: Mike was great. He played all the music we loved. The photobooth was great, although the operator of it didn't seem to have a clue. The person setting up the photobooth was late, and actually got into a road rage incident with my husband, little did he know at the time. Bottom line: I would recommend Mike for your event. Just make sure you get everything in writing to eliminate any confusion for either of you.

My issues came later when prior to my wedding I wanted to provide him with a list of portraits I wanted to be sure to capture he told me he didn't do that to have someone at the wedding handle that. There were also some detail shots I would have wanted that were never taken - again because he wouldn't take the list. Now I realize this all sounds very bridezilla like but there were certain individuals I wanted to be certain got included in portraits - my 90 year old aunt that has since passed away, my 15 year old cousin who was a bridesmaid and wasn't in the bridal party shots because there wasn't anyone really keeping track of who needed to stay and go. The detail shots I would have sucked up...but the people, that's a true loss to me. Additionally we had been told they could do some airbrushing and had for our engagement sessions (airbrushed out a manufacturing plant in the background) when asked if they could do the same for a couple of portraits they told us they couldn't without up charging. In the end the album is beautiful and still gets rave compliments but the customer service side wasn't where I'd have liked it to be. If you're okay with letting them handle everything, then you will be thrilled with their work, but if you want input - I'd ask some very pointed questions before hiring to make sure you feel comfortable.

He gave us so much info and wasn't rushing us away to talk to the other hundreds of people that were there. PJ was so excited to hear this and started explaining all of the details of the fabulous Thursday packages they were offering at Birchwoods! This package included a cake, a photo booth, a DJ, AND A PHOTOGRAPHER, all for a reasonable price per person!!! After hearing this, we looked at pictures and immediately made an appointment to go visit the venue the following weekend. I was so impressed with the venue! The decorations are gorgeous, from the second you open the front door to the hallway to the bridal suite to the room you'd have your reception in, which happened to be set up for a wedding that was happening that evening. We also met Trish during our first visit, and she was also friendly and explaining any and everything we had questions or comments about. She was pointing out all of the decorations that are theirs, which are available for you to use for your big day to save money! PJ had told us at the expo that you can use whatever they have, from centerpieces, to table numbers to card boxes to the Mr. and Mrs. signs for the sweetheart table, all things available to you that you have to provide at many venues. Now, while we ultimately didn't choose this venue because we found another place where we could have our ceremony outside, rain or shine, Birchwoods ABSOLUTELY had my favorite bridal suite! This was the only one I saw with big gorgeous windows, which would've been great for pics while getting ready, as well as for natural light to come in while getting hair and makeup done! There was also a grooms suite in the basement, which most places don't have! So, they definitely had some great features that not many places had, and it's a place you should check out if you're looking for a venue with a lot of great features, and a reasonable price! Omg, I forgot to mention something else I loved! The ladies room! Bizarre, right? But this is the only place I saw that didn't have those tiny little stalls where you practically have to straddle the toilet for the door to swing in so you can close and lock it. I swear, between the ladies room and bridal suite I was a huge fan! Those were two things they had that beat the others, hands down!

If I am honest, I started writing this review before my wedding because of how important Lisa was to me and I didn't want to miss a thing. Outside of saying yes to my husband, Lisa is the best decision I have ever made and I don't say that lightly. Despite getting pushback on hiring a planner, the minute I met Lisa, I knew I needed her. She's a complete powerhouse. I wanted someone showing up that day focused on my husband and I. The venue has priorities, catering has priorities, our families have priorities and I wanted someone in my corner covering my tracks if I dropped balls, and a sounding board as I navigated a once in a lifetime event. That's scratching the surface of what I got with Lisa. She is all I could have dreamed of plus a million more things! DON'T THINK, JUST BOOK LISA! Lisa is a masterclass on professionalism, kindness, organization, crisis management, and finesse. We felt that she was pushy, sarcastic, and condescending and did not have our best interests in mind. We also felt that she was inconsistent in responsiveness (sometimes taking a few weeks to reply and other times replying immediately) and while she helped us find a few vendors (photographer, DJ, catering), we had to follow up multiple times over months with her and ultimately ended up finding most vendors ourselves (venue, hair and makeup, videographer, florist). She was also inconsistent in recommending vendors that fit our budget and in helping us establish a realistic budget in the first place, and multiple times complained to family members about our budget being too small, but never mentioned that to us. Additionally, we got the sense that she kept brushing off our smaller wedding for larger events and was not very invested in planning our wedding. We also felt that she was not on our side when we ran into issues with vendors, and that she was not supportive of non-Western wedding traditions. For example, our caterer, who had said they could do a Chinese entree (whole grilled fish) and had scheduled a tasting for us, changed the tasting menu on us last minute. Lisa took their side and told us "nobody wants to eat that." Anything that was not a traditional American wedding, she judged, critiqued, and made a huge spectacle of, to the point where I felt uncomfortable integrating any cultural elements into our wedding! It's hard enough planning a Chinese-American wedding, and to have our planner actively dismiss my culture like that was beyond frustrating. Most hurtful was Lisa's response to our feedback. When we politely mentioned these concerns to her, instead of apologizing, she insulted me and blamed me for her behavior. She said I made her feel dumb and feel "like poo." Never once did she care about my feelings, and never once did she acknowledge how her behavior was hurtful. While we had been nothing but friendly, patient, and accommodating in our strained relationship, she lectured me on how to be nicer to her instead! We ultimately ended our contract with her due to the many difficulties in working with her. Even now, we are saddened that she has made several attempts to dispute or delete our reviews, and has not sincerely apologized for her behavior, instead continuing to be defensive and blaming me for her behavior. If you'd like to take a look at an interesting trend exemplifying what we suspect Lisa does to retaliate against those who speak up for themselves, take a look at her recent reviews posted in June 2023, especially after these negative ones. See how many directly contradict the negative reviews, to the point where it's an uncanny correlation, almost as if they were expressly written to dismiss our reviews. We are not accusing her of anything, and we are sure she knows soliciting reviews in bulk, and selectively soliciting reviews, violates most company policies. This is just a VERY interesting pattern!
