Updated kitchen, bathrooms, new washer and dryer, AC. Delightfully decorated in a beach theme with bright colors. An in-ground pool (heated!) and large hot tub are available for use. Our unit (#4) even had a large screened-in porch. Great for sitting outside in the evening without worrying about mosquitos. Would absolutely rent again if we're headed to the Douglas/Saugatuck area. Something to note - management asks you to wash sheets and towels before you check out. Check out is a bit early (10am).

That area is really nice spot in which to relax and unwind in the peace and quiet. Fred, the owner, is very friendly and makes a real effort to make sure his guests enjoy their stay.

There wasn't many options close to downtown that were available or reasonable. I found Beachway for $150 a night compared to $300+ for a room just across the water. After reading lots of reviews, I booked and crossed my fingers. We arrived and were greeted by Cathy at the front desk. So sweet and informative! Walked me through everything we needed to know - front desk hours (she was staying the night so would be available for emergencies and ring the bell if needed! So sweet), breakfast area with coffee, donuts, and fresh fruit, and all the amenities they had - games, movies, snacks, etc. They walked me to the room to make sure I knew where it was and to show me around. I had left a note in our reservation about it being our Anniversary and the staff left us a bottle of Prosecco and some nuts - SO sweet and totally unexpected. The room was small - as was described - but very clean and well maintained. The bed, two nightstands, small dresser, TV, and shelf with hangers was in one area of the room and the other half had two chairs, small table, & the sink area outside of the actual bathroom. The sink had a hand towel, makeup towel (black so not to stain easily from makeup - great idea), blow dryer, 2 bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner, and 2 makeup wipes. (no lotion). The bathroom has a door and was recently remodeled - toilet and small shower with a curtain. The renovation was VERY well done, but the shower is pretty small (but tall). We did not use the pool but it appeared to be heated - we hardly saw anyone using it but it appear clean and well maintained. There are lots of decks with ample seating to hang out and watch the activities across the channel. The location is great! short 8-10 min drive to downtown Saugatuck or Douglas. Chain Ferry is a block away and super convenient - and charming! Oval beach is a short 5 minute drive away (walking distance but very hilly and no sidewalks - it's mostly through the woods) My ONLY complaint about the Beachway is the fact that there is no individual temperature controls in the rooms - it is an older establishment that looks retrofitted into individual rooms so everyone must be on the same run. It got a little stuffy in our room, so we opened the windows at night. It was cool outside but the cool air didn't' seem to come in at all. There also is no fan in the room to move the air. So, I would recommend bringing fans if you can. We were on the floor above the lobby so maybe other areas don't have this issue. I did see comments in other reviews about paper thin walls and hearing everything - while I would agree, we didn't find it to be an issue as there didn't seem to be many guests. Out door didn't close flush so at night you could see light coming through from the hallway - even with that we didn't hear people out and about. Overall, this is a charming place that we definitely said we'd bring our kids back to! For a couple traveling for their anniversary looking for a place to just lay their heads, it worked out extremely well!

There's plenty of space for adults and kids alike. The attention to detail is amazing (up to and including the full seized ice maker, two full refrigerators/freezers, and the wine cooler). There's even a 220 outlet in the garage for the EV owner in the family. The property is meticulously maintained. The pool is warm and inviting while never over crowded. We brought our boat and used the slip out front to enjoy time out on the water. The staff was amazing, responsive, and very professional. The only criticism I'd offer is a lack of comfortable seating inside for the rainy days, but don't let that deter you from booking. We will definitely be back.

THE BED at the Pines Motor Lodge & Retro Gift Gallery, is one of the BEST I have ever slept in....... and I have slept in hundreds of hotels, motels, inns and B&B's. In fact, I hate to admit, this bed was better than my own. It was so good in fact, I quizzed the co-owner, Steve about it. According to him, the mattress is made by a private company and they only sell "in bulk". Reportedly, the same mattress is carried by the pricier hotels in the area.The mattress is firm, but soft, if that makes any sense. You can feel your body just melting in to it. Oh and those many pillows. So wonderful to lay your head in. The bedding was sooo good, it was hard to get out. Some really great sleeping & resting after a long day of travel and sightseeing. I guess you get the point..... its all about the bed. We came in mid October as the sister motel, Saugatuck Resort, was unavailable. Not really into the beach theme of the motel, but it turned out to be well done. Loved the ceiling and retro vibe, especially the fridge. (Ice is located in cooler by the main office) There seemed to be only 3 or 4 other guests at the time. Perfect. When we walked into the room, we noticed right away a "fresh" scent. Good sign. Yes, the bathroom is small, but everything worked well. Also, the AC/Heating system was in great operating condition. Steve was great about giving us information regarding places to eat and see. As we arrived later in the day, we were able to see the sunset at Oval Beach. Highly recommend. The Pines Motor Lodge is in a really good location. You can walked in to the city of Douglas and browse the galleries and shops. Saugatuck is a few minutes a way by car. The only concern someone might have, and we didn't, is that the office hours posted are not strictly adhered to. So if you are wanting to visit the gift shop, seek desk assistance or personally check out when the office is suppose to be open, you could have an issue. This is a really good place to stay, especially for $100 a night. Steve said that during the high season, you have to book at least 6 weeks in advance.

The toilet would barely flush. Although there are tvs in the room you have to log into your own apps to use them AND the WiFi barely works so you can't actually log into your apps making the tv pointless. Continental breakfast doesn't start until 9:00 am. I'm up and out the door long before then. The price for this was $300 plus a night. I've stayed in swanky hotels with amazing amenities for less than that. Definitely DO NOT recommend. I was so disappointed that I got sucked into the cute pictures online, not worth it at all.

The Inn is well located, with direct views of Lake Michigan. The sunsets were a real highlight for us. The owners had great chairs outside for guests to use. Did I mention there is also a gazebo? Bring a bottle of wine and enjoy. As the info says, the Inn is a short drive away from downtown Saugatuck, which has a real plus for us. We wanted access to town, but didn't want to be in the hustle full time. It is great to wake up, and wind down, someplace peaceful. Plus, the breakfasts are so plentiful, I hardly needed lunch (but ate lunch anyhow! Vacation!) During the warm weather, the Inn has a cute outdoor pool and gardens. We went back recently (I told you we enjoyed it) and they had the fireplaces going inside and it was like a picture book. What caused me to write the review was our experience upon going back. Wow! They have been busy. In just a few short months, they have already refreshed major parts of the Inn (it was a little dated), with apparently more "refreshes" to come. They have taken what was already a homerun of a property and really made it into something special. So many cute places to enjoy a bottle of wine, read a good book, or just watch the fire and talk (god forbid any of us do that anymore...) We have another trip already on the books (we are in the Chicagoland area, so this is a short ride for us, to a really special location). Can't wait to see what is new this time around!

Rob was amazing. He reached out to me to confirm my arrival time and checked in on me from time to time via text. The motel is quaint and peaceful. Located only a few minutes from downtown Douglas and Sagatauck, a perfect and relaxing, clean, pleasant place to stay. A few things to keep in mind, it is on eastern time zone, that's important if you're driving from the central time zone! Rob was gracious when I was running late to check in. A great place to relax and unwind after a busy day of play, shopping, or in my case working. Lounge by the amazing pool or gather with friends and family at the fire pit, or take a nap in the hammocks! If you're a golfer, it's only a few minutes from The Ravines, an Arnold Palmer designed golf course. I am looking forward to visiting again!
