I do CrossFit 5-6 days a week at home so when I found out I was traveling to Albuquerque for work, I spent hours on the computer searching for the best local CrossFit gym and chose my hotel close to it so I could get my CrossFit in. After checking out Big Barn CrossFit's website and Facebook page, I decided that I'd give it a try. I emailed two weeks before my visit and got an immediate response from Laura welcoming me to drop in when I'm in town. I don't travel much for work, so I haven't visited too many CrossFit boxes outside of the DC area, so when i was heading to Big Barn yesterday, I had butterflies in my stomach. What if the people weren't cool? What if the workout was something I was really bad at? What if I just don't like it? All my worries went out of the window as soon as I walked in the door. The gym was huge compared to my home box in DC, the workout people were doing looked completely manageable to me, and the one thing that put me to ease the most was how friendly the people were. Britney, Amber and Sarah were standing around when I walked in, and even though they didn't work there, they came up to me and introduced themselves and grabbed the coach for me so I could fill out a waiver and get settled. Neal told me a little bit about how things worked there and got me started on my warm-up. Class was lead by Cameron, who introduced myself to everyone once class got going and I received a very warm welcome. Throughout the workout, Cameron made sure to cheer me on and check on my form as I "suffered" with the rest of the Big Barn members. I also met Adam, another coach, after my workout. He was also super cool and told me a little bit about the gym's history. Big Barn is an awesome box and I would recommend it to anyone who's visiting Albuquerque. I guess they don't have any reviews on Yelp yet because they're new compared to some of the other CF boxes in town, but they are coming up to their one year anniversary and with the way they're doing things, I know they're going to be around for many many years to come.

I first called to let them know I would be dropping-in for a workout and their customer service was fantastic! From the moment I walked in this box everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Very good programming and knowledge from coaches and members. This box is maintained very well! The entire workout area is clean and neat. All the coaches I've worked with; Issac, Jonathan, Anna, Alex, Gilbert, Vince, Derek, Sam are all extremely knowledgeable and helpful. First off, the price starts at only $9/month so pretty much anyone can afford to come here. And for an extra $20/ fee you can get the access to their regular sauna, infrared sauna, steam room, massage room, and so many other neat extras. This gym is fully loaded with luxuries? And it's brand new only 2 weeks old! It has a grass area, and tons and tons of strength and cardio equipment. They have a kids play area if you have little ones, a movie theater, yeah I said that, a movie theater (never seen that at a gym before), they have classes, yoga, a juice bar with calorie counter juices and smoothies, and even a picketball court!! The front desk staff were friendly and informative about the gym, and it was very clean. I feel like I need to switch my gym membership! But likely I'll be getting a second membership here because these guys aren't nationwide I don't think, and I tend to travel a lot.

The leadership at this F45 is phenomenal, the community is welcoming, and the workouts are challenging and fun. It's hard work, but there's so much going on that the time absolutely flies by. We traveled to Albuquerque for Labor Day weekend to visit my In-laws. We usually stay at an Airbnb when we visit, but decided to stay at Springhill Suites this time. After a long day of travel with small children and a connecting flight mishap, we sat down for dinner at Cocina Azul next to the hotel. I glanced out the window, and I was shocked when I saw a sign for F45 among the list of businesses in the complex. In a beautiful coincidence, I had signed up for a membership at my local F45 in the Bay Area the day before we left for our trip, after I had been searching for the "right fit" in a gym for a while. The morning after I saw the F45 sign, I called F45 Albuquerque and spoke to Kendall, who I believe is the owner. I explained my situation and asked if I could pay as a drop in, and she generously offered to host me!! I took two classes: one with Stephanie and the other with Stephanie and Bodhi. Stephanie was so welcoming. She went out of her way to look out for me and patiently help me with both form and logistics (moving to the correct stations). Bodhi helped me with a really challenging station, and taught me something game changing in just a few seconds! I am so grateful for this precious and unexpected gift. Thank you so much, Kendall. Run, don't walk, to this fantastic F45! And if you can't run easily right now, it's okay -- you're going to level up in your strength and endurance quickly at this wonderful gem of a gym!
