As I was inside last night picking up sodas for my bestie & I, I was greeted several times by working staff saying "hello" to me & when I walked up to the counter to purchase my items I was asked "how are you?." It's nice to be acknowledged when you walk into a business vs. being ignored. I walked by this amazing pastry cabinet & this big, piece of a carrot cake caught my attention. Everything else inside looked yummy & fresh. I had to control my sweet tooth temptation & keep walking. They have an awesome soda station & they even carried caffeine free diet coke. (I prefer to drink this to limit my caffeine intake) They carry one of those machines that is touch screen operated & have several selections of sodas to choose from. They also have coffee, tea & those slushy drinks. The store was big & roomy and I found it to be very clean. They have all sorts of snacks, booze, non-alcoholic drinks & they even carry an assortment of gift cards. It's located in a busy intersection off Elwyn Rd & Lafayette Rd. The gas pumps were pretty busy. I've never seen a gas station so busy (in a good way) before, not even when it was the Mobil. Now don't get me wrong, I didn't have to wait in a line as things move pretty smoothly inside nor did I see people's cars lining up for gas. It's definitely a place checking out for your simple gas station needs! Enjoy!

When I placed the beer upon the counter, the older African-American woman who was working asked me for my ID. When I pulled out the paper ID, she got very angry and said "I thought I told you to stop coming in here with that paper!" (I had never once been inside this gas station, let alone attempt to purchase anything.) I told her that I had never been into this store and that she probably had me confused with someone else, but she was still angry. I turned to walk out without my items, but she stopped me and said that she'd "let me buy beer one last time." (Again, I had never before been inside.) So, I said okay, and asked if I could also purchase a pack of Marlboros. She again got very angry with me and said she can't take the paper ID as it would be "breaking the law" However, she was still letting me purchase the beer. (Huh?) She then proceeded to tell me "just have one of your friends come in here and buy it if you need it that bad." I laughed and asked well wouldn't that be breaking the law? To which she had no reply but further angry mumbling. Again, I get I shouldn't expect every gas station to not scan my ID, but if you're gonna do that at least be consistent with it and don't contradict yourself. I just don't understand how you can sell someone beer but refuse to sell them cigarettes.

First - my roommate and I visited Trader Joe's right after moving to Portsmouth. The cashier looked at our IDs since we were buying wine, and when she found out that we had just moved to the area, she gave us a reusable bag as a welcome gift. We were so touched by this welcome and really appreciated the gesture as we had just arrived and were starting to settle in. Second, and most recently, my partner and I were picking up a couple of items on a Sunday night. We went to get in the checkout line and then remembered that we needed to grab one more thing. Just then, the bagging attendant told us "I'll open another lane for you guys" to which we responded that we needed to grab another thing. He told us it was not a problem and he'd be ready when we got back, and returned to bagging. We went, got our item, and upon our return to the checkout line, the attendant immediately opened up another lane. Although this may seem small, I was so appreciative that the attendant not only wanted to improve our experience initially, but cared enough to keep an eye on us while we picked up another item and opened up another lane for us as soon as we returned. I felt that it truly went above and beyond and I wish I remembered his name to give him a shoutout. I would be remiss if I concluded this review with no mention of the Trader Joe's food. Their frozen meals are amazing and all of their food is so high quality; I've never had a product that disappointed.
