Our 7-year-old kiddo is a combination of stubborn and risk-averse so we had spent years trying to get them on a bike to no avail. After two lessons with Susan, they are biking around on their own and are full of pride and self confidence. Susan's method, patience, gentleness, and sense of humor are exactly what our kiddo needed and we can't recommend the Bicycle Riding School enough!

1.5 lessons in and my timid and stubborn 6 year old was riding completely independently! So grateful and impressed. Highly recommend!

Learn to ride a bike no matter what.....any age...any history I know I was amazingly lucky to find this teacher and school. Definitely a harbinger of good things to come in my new life in Cambridge. There is a reason Susan McLucas is the Bike Whisperer...ever egalitarian her method is laid out for any with internet access, but (in person) in action she knows the short phrase to tell each person to 'adjust' their entire approach and experience. She genuinely cheers for each success jumping in the air and high fiving (When it comes to cheery overly firendly enthusiasm I become a major curmudgeon. But with McLucas it is SO genuine I actually felt warmed and encouraged.) She operates out of a barn conveniently located near a large practice playground and a bike path. A variety of bicycles in excellent working repair await....so do helmets, gloves, knee pads, elbow pads, parkas, rain gear, sweaters, water bottles....Once I saw The Operation I realized she could even teach an older relative of mine, one who is able to identify and voice any available objection...but what would be left to cite? nothing! hehehe I was wondering if her 4 class series would do the trick...but every student (even the ones who came back for additional lessons) was 'up' on their bike within the first ten minutes.... Even though it's not base jumping, it might as well have been for me, learning a new physical skill as an adult definitely helps stave off the idea that certain doors are closed...a very good thing. Check out this article in The Christian Science Monitor about the teacher, her method and some of the students. http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/1108/p20s01-lign.html Bicycle Riding School (aka Bicycle Barn & Riding School): http://www.bicycleridingschool.org/

I asked him About the terrible reviews on the school and he replied with "ok who doesn't have bad reviews" DIDNT acknowledge the seriousness of the matter of people being scammed, charged, and harassed about their money, especially after graduating. He made a dumb snarky comment because I am on vacation before my classes start, "vacations hit different when you have a career" Lmfao I've never experienced such an unprofessional, invasive counselor. When I called out that behavior and inappropriate comment , he proceeded to say "says a lot about you" Actually Daniel it says a LOT MORE about YOU and "yOuR sChOol" Save your money, and go to a real institution that will take you seriously, and not just use you for you cash.

The beginning of September he still was sitting in the classroom and told to just read the books and take notes, the teacher would just sit on his phone. So a few kids in his class said something to the teacher and the dean that they were told they would be in the lab no longer then 3 weeks after starting school, they were told that the recruiters just say that to get people to insist . A few weeks later my son called me and said he was going to quit because nothing had changed and the instructor actually fell asleep in class!! So I got involved and said that something needed to change!! The next week they finally got in the lab and was enjoying actually being hands on learning how to work on vehicles! Unfortunately to that only lasted a little over a month. The end of November my son finally said he couldn't do it any more, they were back to just reading books and doing modules all the time. He was not learning ANYTHING and paying a ton to do it. I told him to talk to someone higher up and when he did they said "this is how we run this school and we don't really care if you don't like it We feel so lies to and have to pay for months of NOTHING!!! If I could personally tell everyone who is even thinking about going here to run the other direction I would!! Definitely a terrible experience and after reading all the reviews that are so similar to ours, I'm really surprised thia school is even able to be open or have students go there. I feel for anyone that has ever or will ever step foot in this school! They are taking advantage of kids and it needs to stop!

Katherine's painting school is THE hidden gem of Somerville. Katherine hosts a small group of…read morestudents on weekday evenings and on Saturdays (scheduling is flexible) and, in just two hours per week, effectively spreads the message that passion and expression exist within you and can flourish if you're given the right tools. I approached the painting school as a self-proclaimed "left brain" with "no painting skills and no creativity," grudgingly committed to devoting some time to expression on a weekly basis. From the minute I set foot in my first class, I fell in love with both the charm of the room--the cozy top floor of a home in a classic Somerville neighborhood--and the warmth of my classmates, all strangers but many of whom have quickly become my friends. The best part of the painting school is that we all have the freedom to be ourselves, and to be excellent at it. Whether or not you consider yourself a "painter" at first, within a matter of time, Katherine will help you understand that you CAN make a picture come to life, learning is EASY, and our creations are BEAUTIFUL because they are born from patience and self-love. It's impossible not to believe in yourself when you pour energy into a painting from week to week and inevitably watch it come to life. Katherine injects positive energy into every class and was clearly made to be a teacher. I've never felt confident as an artist, but learning to paint (or, rather, that I could already paint!) with Katherine's guidance has done wonders for my overall state of mind. I highly recommend this school for anyone even remotely interested in dabbling in painting, no matter how seriously you want to explore it. You will learn new techniques and ways to approach the painting process, and if you join with an open mind, I promise you will become more in touch with the part of yourself that's been yearning to create.

The painting was a gift to my sister and not only did the recipient love her gift from me, I loved the gift that Katherine gave me. She helped me to understand that time is precious and if it is spent wisely, any goal could be accomplished. If you are even considering taking a painting class, I would give this school a chance. It will change your view on your own creativity and your view on what it means to teach. Katherine is a gem! She, and her school, cannot be replicated or duplicated. I am sad that I will probably not be able to find anything like them where I am moving. Oh, and the ice cream breaks in the summer aren't so bad either.
