Dropped it off, within a couple of hours I got a call back and the gentleman told me exactly what was wrong and how much it would cost. Very reasonable. He told me it would be ready the next day. Sure enough my vehicle was ready before noon. Check out was quick and easy and they went over the work done and answered my questions. What blew me away was they washed my car and did the small touches like air freshener. The next day I got a phone call from them just to make sure everything was running right. Amazing. It feels awesome because now i have a mechanic I can trust and will take care of my vehicle right. Do the right thing and make an appointment and you will be good to go.

The transmission light is on and the car is having trouble switching gears/moving at a slow pace. The driver tells me to put it in accessory mode and switch the gear to neutral. He tells me to get in his truck. He proceeds to load the truck on to the flatbed. As we are on our way to the mechanic shop I noticed my daytime lights are on, I said hey you left my car on?, that can drain my battery, Tanner says it can't drain your battery. I had to tell him to pull over and cut off my car while it's on the flatbed. He pulled over and turned off the car. We now arrived to the mechanic shop. The owner asked Tanner to move the vehicle to the back where the bay doors are since the car isn't moving/driving. Tanner said okay, then proceeded to get upset and say "I hate when they want to park the vehicles in spot, the should move the car or push it into the back", I said "Why when you could just drive back more since your already in the driveway?", Tanner then asked me to go in the shop and I decided to stand in the rain and watch him unload my vehicle. He put the car into reverse and then moved the flatbed off the front tires. I did record this. I do hope all this unnecessary turning the car on in accessory mode and switching the gears didn't damage the vehicle more. I called to speak to the dispatcher/owner so they would know what happened, and the dispatcher hanged up, maybe by mistake, not sure but when I called back someone answered and then left me on hold. I guess they can read this review and do better.

The cost was very reasonable and certainly better than I expected. My car is a 1998 model with 153,000 miles on it. Made an appointment ahead of time with a well known nearby tire place (I won't mention the name but it's on 25A in Mount Sinai) and once I was there, I was told I'd have to wait to have the tire inspected. I left since I didn't have the time to wait. I pulled into T&S Auto hoping they could help me on the spot. The guy checked it out immediately and was able resolve the cause of the flat tire. I then drove into this tire shop at 6:15 p.m. I asked the attendant if they can repair my tire. She said they were closed, but maybe they would be able to help me. The manager said it would be no problem. Ten minutes later I was on my way. Tire repaired! Additionally the personnel I encountered at Mavis Tire was a breath of fresh air. They went the extra mile to please all their customers as I noticed other patrons thanking the staff for a job done well.

On top of that, they tried to tell me my rear brakes needed to be done soon -- which immediately raised a red flag because I had just had my rear brakes replaced in December. Not feeling confident in what I was being told, I asked them to just put my spare on and went to my regular mechanic afterward. Not only were they able to patch the tire without any issue, but they also showed me there was simply a screw in it -- nothing close to what I had been told at Mavis. They also confirmed my rear brakes are in perfectly fine condition. (Which I figured as again the pads, rotors and calipers where just replaced by my mechanic in December) What makes this even more upsetting is the feeling that I was being taken advantage of. I came in wearing scrubs, clearly on my way to or from work in healthcare, and it's incredibly disheartening to think that someone would try to push unnecessary repairs on me anyway. It's not just about being a woman -- it's about basic honesty and integrity, especially when someone is trusting you with their safety and vehicle. I understand that shops need to make money, but misleading customers and recommending unnecessary work crosses a line. I won't be returning, and I strongly recommend others get a second opinion outside of this establishment.

Been taking my old beater work Honda here for years and they have been reliable, friendly and most importantly- honest. They've done all my basic maintenance, usually just brake pad, battery, inspection related. Always done in a relatively timely fashion for a fair price. Never once tried to upsell me on extra work in order to pass inspection. My most recent encounter with them, which is what really motivated me to leave this review, was especially appreciated. I don't know much about cars, but there was something a little stiff with my steering, and I thought maybe the power steering or some belt was going. Took it into East Setauket Auto and asked them to take a look at it and let me know what needed to be done. They could've told me numerous things and hit me with some multi hundred dollar charges, but instead they looked at it and honestly told me nothing was wrong with it and no work needed to be done so I picked my car up no charge. That type of honesty is priceless and will recommend this auto shop to everyone who needs one. Great people here. On top of all that the place just looks cool- convenient location in a nice area- retro, old school style office and shop, feels like going back in time in a good way.
