Located on 50 Rose Street in Fitzroy, the store's close proximity to the Rose Street Artist Market is a boon to it's existence. Sharing a space with Mottanai Vintage Cycle keeps things interesting. Perusing vintage bikes while waiting for your meal puts an ironic spin on things, given that many people in India ride old and rusty bikes too. The furniture is albeit low, but well put together. Old milk crates double up as tables while short stools dot the space in abundance. My friend and I shared 2 Dosas, one filled with masala potatoes and the other filled with smokey eggplant. The crisp dough made of fermented rice and lentil batter had a hint of acidity to it. Also, there are lentil poppers which make for a good snack. That being said, the star of the show is the wide range of chutneys. I would recommend getting the hot chili one if you are not afraid of pain. At this price point ($9), these guys are over-providing. The treats are both vegan and gluten-free too. What are you waiting for?

For those not in the know dosas are very thin crepes traditionally filled with spiced potato. Overdosa's menu is simple offering potato masala, spiced pumpkin or eggplant filling. Your dosa also comes with either a coconut or hot chilli chutney. You can also order poppers which are delicious fried lentil balls. We had the potato masala and the poppers with coconut chutney. I'm no expert but my companion who is Indian rated them very highly. They are hot fast and delicious. He devoured the poppers so quickly I only managed a couple. All the options here are vegan and although I am a sworn carnivore I can say that it was so tasty it didn't matter. The guys are super friendly and really keen to hear what you think of their food and have a chat. They will be at the Evelyn on Brunswick st over Anzac weekend and then they fly to India to spend a few months collecting recipes to expand their offerings and possibly open a restaurant. If you are in the mood for Indian I highly recommend checking them out.

The line was super long (but fast moving) which got me even more excited.... But honestly they were legit just regular jelly filled donuts? Of course they were fresh so they were good but I'm so confused about what all the hype is about? Not sure if donuts are not as common in Australia but you could get these at any of your local donut shops in the US? I blame myself though for coming all the way to Australia and then seeking out something that literally starts with "American" LOL.

The food is seems so simple yet perfectly executed - donut with jam filling inside. Don't have a big appetite? Don't worry, despite the signs prominently staring a number and a price (e.g. 10 for X), you can buy as few or as many as you want. I wouldn't normally point this out but out of the 30+ people ahead of us, pretty sure we were the only ones to ask and get a different number. Despite the often long lines, the service is impeccable and they move close to the speed of light. It's a well oiled machine. The craziest part? This place has been around since the 50s and the recipe is mostly unchanged. The ambience is era appropriate, too. It's an old bus that provides them shelter and mobility while being the perfect photo opportunity. They had swag, too, if you are into that. Overall, you'll miss out if you don't stop at ADK on your next trip to the area.

I went with the bi bim bap, a classic that was cooked to perfection. Loads of toppings on purple rice. It was so delicious. You also get to add as much hot sauce as you desire. Plus there are unlimited sides like kim chi, pickled radish and seasoned onions. For a dinner meal coming out at under $20, it can't be beat! I would gladly come here again.

It's decked out decently enough; kind of has a warehouse feel complete earthy tones. I'd recommend dining in the basement close to the front for 2 reasons: 1. The smoke that inevitably billows out in korean bbq will rise and so if you're one of those poor buggers on the top floor, you will be copping 3 levels worth of bbq fumes 2. It's very close to the kitchen so your food comes out amazingly fast. One thing I must share are the desserts at this place which are absolutely amazing. The desserts are only 6 bucks a pop and you can have everything from black sesame ice cream, green tea cakes and ice-cream, lemon sorbet with jelly and black and white chocolate mousse. You'd easily expect to pay $15 for comparable desserts elsewhere. To understand my complex voting system, this place is a 4 for food, plus 1 for the dessert and minus one for the service, which was about as interesting and engaging as a wet lettuce leaf. They are attentive enough in that they bring out the food fast, and replace your grill as soon it gets blackened like coal, but as I've stated elsewhere, to get a 5, I need an experience with friendly casual banter! TIP: this place has unlimited lettuce and side dishes if you run out.
