Jajangmyeon
Chuiyee H.

Decided to drop by this place a few days ago while visiting Cologne with a friend. I ordered kimchi stew while my friend got the jajangmyeon. The food was great! The stew was served piping hot with lots of tofu and sliced pork, while the jajangmyeon was wonderfully springy and chewy. The owner was really friendly and told us that this was the only place around Bonn and Cologne that sold jajangmyeon. Btw my friend is a huge jajangmyeon fan and had been looking for it in almost all Korean restaurants here.

Incredible and authentic Korean food in Cologne. I've been coming here for about two years and can…read moreconfidently say it's my favourite restaurant in the entire city. I typically get the bibbimbap, but I can also say that the bulgogi, kimchi pancakes and gyoza are delicious. The quality is great as well, and the service is very friendly. I lived in London for years and no Korean restaurant in London has matched up to Youn's. I would recommend it to anyone who is in Cologne!

Chimaek!!! Korean spicy fried chicken and Beer!!! Koreanisches pikantes Chicken Wings und Bier!!!!…read more I haven't had Chimaek in a few years and couldn't find this in a Germany restaurant yet. This restaurant did not disappoint. I asked them to make it spicy, but they didn't as most Germans don't eat very spicy food. I had one bite and the chicken was really good, but was a bit sweet with a chili taste. I asked for more a hotter sauce and they brought out one with a pair of plastic cooking gloves and warned me about the hot sauce. I have a high level of spice and hotness and am very aware of how to eat chili, so I tasted this sauce and it was very spicy. I poured it all over my hot wings, but I didn't end up using the plastic gloves as it was ok for me. There were a lot of people in the restaurant looking at me as I guess they aren't used to people eating or ordering really really really hot food. The chef was an older Korean lady that speaks German. She is the main and only cook and she cooked to perfection as you would expect in your grandmother's kitchen! I saw how she was able to cook 4-5 things at once and everything that came out of her small kitchen was perfect. If you go there and love to cook, just sit at the first table on the left and you can watch a great live cook. I ordered the Korean spicy fried chicken, Hite beer from a bottle, a bowl of kimchi, and a bowl of rice. I would have ordered Sundae, but they didn't have that here. If someone knows where to find that in Germany, please let me know. 5 stars Korean spicy fried chicken 5 stars Hite beer from a bottle 5 stars kimchi 2 stars Bowl of rice, wasn't the tastiest rice I have ever had and was a bit undercooked, which you would think wouldn't happen in an automatic rice cooker Ich habe seit einigen Jahren kein Chimaek mehr gegessen und konnte das noch nicht in einem deutschen Restaurant finden.

Korean BBQ meets the electric grill! This is the way to do Korean BBQ, I think, if you have an…read moreengagement after dinner. While the electric grill doesn't eliminate all the meat odor from your clothes, you could get by with a nice walk outside. (I did this before a concert and no one gave me the stink eye during the show, so I am assuming that my strategy succeeded.) Meat.ing is quality Korean BBQ in a chic setting. You will be comfortably full, but this is not what you would necessarily seek out to pig out. Its side dish offerings are delicious and apparently use very little or no MSG, evidenced by how comfortable my stomach felt after the meal. The kimchi is on the sour side, which I personally prefer in ramen soups rather than eating it as a side dish. But all the other side dishes made up for it. The meats are well prepared and quite tender. We came for dinner and chose Menu 1, which includes 3-layered pork belly, sirloin, and three types of marinated meats (chicken, beef, and pork). The marinade was a good balance of sweet and savory. The dinner offerings are stylized as course offerings, so you can expect appetizer (fried dumplings) and dessert (honey yogurt with fruit). Lovely dinner option in Koln and a must visit if you want a great Korean BBQ experience!

This restaurant is awesome! I'm so happy I found this place. Korean BBQ is not known for its…read moreambiance, but as soon as I walked into the restaurant, I immediately noticed the chic and modern decor, streamlined gray and black color scheme, and orchid floral arrangements, which is always a plus for me. The friendly waitress greeted us with warm towels to clean our hands and a free dumpling appetizer (mandu) to start. The banchan (side dishes) were also a great variety (and for those unfamiliar with Korean restaurants, the plentiful side dishes are always free.) The presentation was also nice, and the meat was well-marinated. We chose Menu 1, which included pork, chicken, beef, samgyupsal, and bulgogi. Dinner ended with a refreshing yogurt/fruit dessert that was simple but hit the spot and cleansed the palette after a hearty meal- also included in the menu (complimentary). Cost was very reasonable, considering the sheer amount of food- 22.90 per person (excluding drinks). Another bonus- they use electric grills, which means no smokey charcoal smell on your clothes afterwards. Some people prefer coals, but I sometimes prefer the simple method of electric- seems better for the health too (less carcinogenic fumes, hopefully?). If you haven't been here yet, go! Service is very friendly, and most of the servers can speak English, Korean, and German very well. (Note: I've been to some of the best Korean BBQ places in America, and I have to say that European Korean BBQ is much different. Atmosphere is different, taste is slightly different, and I've yet to see a place offer LA galbi. It's the same way that Italian, Spanish, and even American cuisine is interpreted and presented drastically different in Europe, probably because of different ingredients, as well as the need to meet the European palette of the typical clientele. It's fascinating for me to go to Korean restaurants in Europe and see the cultural translation and spin on it.)

If you like a quick tasty bite, but don't want to go for the typical döner, this is the place!…read moreChiNoo only serves one thing: Korean fried chicken (ok, along with 3-4 other Korean staples). But man, it's well worth it! Either order the chicken on its own, or go for the ChiNoo menu with the added fried noodles. Choose your sauce (I recommend the Pikant!) and enjoy! Surrounded by (way too many) döner places, ChiNoos is the perfect alternative. Or in my case: the only place to go on Chlodwigplatz. Döner what? Durum where? No, ChiNoo's is the place for me.

Good Bulgogi. Better than Bibimbab's down the road…read more I tried Chi.Noo's tonight, and ordered the Bulgogi. It is primarily a fried chicken place. The interior is nice, although tonight it was very hot, (34 degrees C) so I sat there and sweat. There are three tables for four and some wall seating. It appears to be a Korean husband and wife who work there. She was working the fried chicken up front, and he went into the back to cook my Bulgogi and some Bibimbap for two Korean businessmen who were dining there at the same time. The couple were eating fresh fruit at one of the tables in the back--one often sees asian food staff eating healthy like this. The bulgogi came with rice, whereas one of the pictures here shows noodles. There was kimchi, bean sprouts, and spicy vegetables (root?) on the side. The bulgogi had a good amount of sauce leak onto the rest of the plate, it looked a little mealy, but tasted great. As it was just cooked, it was hot and delicious. The bibimbap the businessmen were eating looked more authentic and with greater portion size than Bibimbab's. Relative to Bibimbab, which is down line 15 on Zulpicherplatz, Chi.Noo's bulgogi was a much better portion size. It is also a lot less corporate-like. The prices are about the same (Bulgogi at Chi.Noo's was 7.90E). I'll definitely go back there for a bulgogi-fix, and probably not to Bibimbab's. As I was leaving a gentlemen ordered a box of noodles to go, so that is an option there. It would not be a good place for a date, but great for an informal meal, especially on a cooler day. There is one of those awesome for men open air outdoor urinal things across the street, a Chlodwigplatz feature. It is worth going to Zulpicherplatz for a 1E eis afterwards.
