We didn't look at any of the…read moremuseum items and just went straight to the elevator because we knew there's a gorgeous view at the top terrace. Out of all the views in Salzburg, this one was by far the best. It keeps getting better and better. The first one was right outside the elevator. Then continue up the stairs and you come across this huge fortress wall. Walk all the way to the back and you'll see a huge grass area. Get close to the edge and you'll get a close up of the Hohensalzburg fortress then look below and you'll see Dom quarter and to the left you'll see the bridge that takes you over to Hotel Sacher and the magnolia trees blooming at the market plaza. Great place to relax and lots of locals walking their dogs. Also saw a food truck.

The exhibition rooms felt disjointed in flow and in concept. I might have felt differently if it wasn't my last museum for the day and if I had an audio guide. I am not even sure if they have the later, but none of the staff offered unlike other places.

Ornate rooms showcase everything from Roman exclamations to Royal portraits.They were free guided tour is at 6 PM every Thursday. The museum also has a café. A gift shop and lockers where you can store your stuff. You can take a stroller into the museum because there is ever elevators that take you to each floor. At the time the feature exhibit was "what role did the Salzburg museum play during the Nazi regime" It was quite a eye-opener. An interesting perspective for sure. The view from the Observation Tower is spectacular, an alp or two is always good eye candy. We spend about 2 hours wandering around, through the museum and courtyard. Look through every window you find and you can see why this Fortress was impenetrable. Also have a go with the bells on way out and if you have time come back to the bell area at 11.00am to hear the original mechanism working. A final drink and snack in the restaurant will afford those great views once more. We arrived early with few people around. Yes there are a lot of steps but they are well designed and shallow. The way down from the tower is separate to the way up so you don't get blockages. The rest rooms are fantastic just at the end of the Museum.

Some of the major highlights of Fortress Hohensalzburg are the magnificent Princes' Rooms, the Magic Theater on the High Level, the Great Armory in the castle courtyard, the various museums (like the marionette museum, the tower and the historical museum) were all very interesting and detailed. Go up for the breathtaking views over the rooftops of the city. It was really interesting to learn how this fortress had evolved over a period of almost 500 years. If you want to do all, it would take 3-5 hours...it's huge.....

While the town of Ebensee has a nice museum commemorating the Ebensee Concentration Camp…read more(Konzentrationslager Ebensee or KZ Ebensee), this is the actual site. After the war, the area was rezoned for a housing development and much of the camp is now family homes and gardens. However, some of the site remains along with a memorial wall. The museum in town is also on yelp and called "Zeitgeschichte Museum und KZ-Gedenkstätte Ebensee" and you should start there and then come visit the actual site. Its web site is http://www.memorial-ebensee.at/ There is no website for the site, but you can get lots of great info on wikipedia or at: http://en.tracesofwar.com/article/1287/Memorial-and-Cemetery-Concentration-Camp-Ebensee.htm There is not much parking or even great signage to get to the camp location, but it is worth a visit. There are also "Tunnels" you can visit that were dug by this camp's prisioners during the war to hide underground the V2 rocket production. The museum can tell you more.

Such a fabulous place; a baroque palace to enjoy a concert in! Going inside you get to take the…read morebeautiful Angel Staircase up to the famous Marble Hall, which is where the concert takes place. I saw a wonderful Mozart concert here with strings and a visiting French Horn player who was fantastic. It's not a huge room and it's nicely intimate inside; the interior is clad with white marble and is gorgeous. I went in March and was able to get a ticket on the same day but I think in summer it must sell out. They have a coat check and a bar that you can visit before the concert and during intermission. Don't come too hungry though, because I only saw MozartKugel on sale for snacks the night that I attended a concert. Check on their website a couple days in advance if you can. It's really worth seeing a concert here plus you get to visit the famous Angel Staircase and Marble Hall, which are must sees if you're visiting Salzburg.
