We have delicious food cooked on-site, including hand-breaded chicken, catfish, potatoes; biscuits, breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, cookies, doughnuts, and more. We have both Coke and Pepsi (yes, Mountain Dew too) fountain drinks, and fresh brewed flavored coffees and teas. We have a wide assortment of sweets, snacks, candy, and bottled beverages, including beer. And we have a US Post Office, with a drive-thru window!
History
Established in 1935.
In 1935, my grandparents purchased a two story brick home and started their business on Morgan Oak St, Southern Oil Company. They placed two gas pumps out in front of the house, converted their living room into a store, and offered oil, fluid, and other automotive products.
After about eight years of operating the gas business out of their home, they purchased ground across the railroad tracks and built a gasoline station with a garage and restaurant. The station was considered the finest from St. Louis to Memphis, TN, and many famous people frequented the store and restaurant, including Tennessee Ernie Tubbs, Minnesota Fats, Johnny Cash, Clyde McCoy, and Elvis Presley.
Eventually, my Mom and Dad took over the business and added this location in 1988, and then in 2002, I took over ownership. I built a third location at 612 S Sprigg St in Cape GIrardeau, and a few years later purchased a location at 1024 N High St in the neighboring town of Jackson.
