However, on the actual day of our appointment, there was a different person at the front desk and she was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful, which made a big difference. As for the doctor, he was absolutely amazing. You could truly tell that he takes pride in his work and genuinely enjoys what he does. He was thorough, patient, and made my daughter feel comfortable throughout the visit. They give you a buzzer which is what keeps you updated through the surgery wait. The buzzer makes it easy for them to discretely let you know that you are needed at the front desk for an update. Normally I am a germaphobe but this hospital was so clean (at least on the surgery side) that I had no issues with feeling like I was covered in germs. The inside is well lit, especially after the sun comes up. There are plenty of plug in outlets for phones or other technology. Lulu's Cafe has some great food that is not overpriced. I had the breakfast sandwich and it was huge. I was full for over half the day. The cafe offers a lot of different options. There is an older gentleman named Paul who walks around asking if anyone needs anything or has any questions. He was there when we went in for post op and there when we were waiting for the surgery. It's nice to have someone to offer assistance when you are stressed, waiting during a loved ones surgery. The short stay rooms are clean and the nurses are very understanding and kind. My girlfriend ended up being the last patient on the hall but they never got pushy. They let her wake up and accomplish her goals to leave as she felt like she could. They are very attentive. If they tell you they will be back in ten minutes, they will be back in ten minutes. Everyone was friendly from the front desk employees to the nurses and anesthesiologist.

A surprisingly little amount of time is actually spent talking about addiction directly, because the program is more broad and provides clients with a holistic new way of being in the world. The curriculum draws from numerous sources and is not dogmatic or limited by orthodoxy. I came to Serenity Grove at a very low point in my life, looking for real help, understanding, and compassion. What I got instead was a cold, impersonal environment that failed to meet even the basic expectations of support and care. From the beginning, I felt like I was being processed, not truly heard. The staff rarely showed genuine concern, and I often felt like I was just another name on a list rather than a person going through something real. There was no meaningful emotional support. No one sat down with me in a way that made me feel safe or understood. When I faltered--and let's be honest, everyone in recovery is going to stumble--it felt like they were waiting for me to fail. Instead of being met with compassion or an effort to help me get back on my feet, I was terminated. Just like that. No attempt to talk it through, no conversation about next steps, no plan for how to continue healing. And to make it worse, they blocked my number afterward. Completely cut me off. That kind of rejection--especially from a place that claims to be about healing and growth--is not just unprofessional, it's cruel. Places like Serenity Grove are supposed to be about helping people, not discarding them the moment they show signs of struggle. Recovery isn't linear, and people deserve grace and support when they're going through the hardest parts. My experience left me feeling more abandoned and defeated than when I walked in. If you're considering Serenity Grove, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere--somewhere that actually follows through on the values they advertise. What they did to me wasn't right, and I hope they take a serious look at how they treat people who come to them in need.
