It's a very nice, organized Indian grocery. I'm not going to pretend that I purchase a lot of items there, but it's an interesting store to browse in just to see what you find. The prices are very reasonable. I go there to stock up on the boil-in-bag Indian food packets. They have one brand that costs $.99 each. I have bought similar items at the local Trader Joe's for $2-$3 each in the past. Now I'll only buy them at Bharat Bazaar. They have more selection even in the pre-packaged meals and all of the flavors are excellent. You can have a whole meal for about $6: say, three packets with some fresh naan bread. Very economical and delicious. I have also bought henna from them. They have a few different styles: cones of premixed henna and powder that you can mix yourself. I chose the latter because it cost less and I have experience using it in the past, so I know how to mix it (you can look up online tutorials if you're interested or need inspiration for patterns). My results were great. The design I made on my feet lasted for several weeks! Henna supplies are located by the window, in front of the registers. I had trouble finding it right away. I can't remember what I paid but it was somewhere around $3. The packet was large enough to have more left over for another time as well, which was an additional selling point. They also have an extensive selection of teas and incense, which I am interested in browsing more thoroughly next time I visit. read more

Let me start with by far the worst aspect of this store: the parking lot is a complete disaster. It's too small and tight and people always cut randomly across the lot because there's only one formal crosslane. I hate it. As for the store it's a decent store. The selection of packaged groceries from the Subcontinent is quite good, while the fresh vegetables are decent but not great. Anyway, overall we are fans of the store but the storeowners in this complex need to work with the landlord to improve the parking. read more

A great local Indian store- loads of indian spices, variety of cookies, desserts ( jalebee, mixed matai, raas malai etc) naan/roti and boxed Indian meals. They also sell pots, pans, fresh and frozen Indian staple vegetables ( chilis, parsley, eggplant etc), Indian snacks, rice and atta. Also a variety of (expensive) Indian decorations, movies, CDs, and Indian beauty products. Great grocery store with up to date items- nice owners as well. read more

Don't go here. Go to Farmer's India Market instead. Bahart charged wrong twice in 1 check out. The advertised price was not what the items rung up as. I got a big bag yellow onions, they charged me a different price that what was advertised in store. Then they changed me wrong on peppers as well! I wonder how much of their business is charging people wrong. Buyer beware. What are the chances in 1 shopping trip that they charge me wrong on 2 items. They add extra charges. Maybe they figure they wo t be able to compete with the new market and just try to steal as much money as they can before they go out of business. Horrible produce and dishonest about prices. I never usually buy much when I'm here but the store deserves a review anyway. I've been here maybe 10 times in the past two years and the produce is always very fresh and I think that says a lot for any business. The store is clean and isn't busy but I always see other customers. They have everything here. Spices and prepared foods and frozen food and CD's and incense and dried beans and body care products. Bharat is the only Indian store in the area right now and I think they would cover anyone's needs. read more

Bharat Bazaar had a good selection of Indian food items, the best in this area. The packaged snacks are my go-to and prices are ok. The vegetables are fresh and reasonably priced. There is a large frozen food selection as well. In sum, a good store to get your Indian food fix! read more

We use Bharat Bazaar almost exclusively for our bulk spices and dried beans. We go through a LOT of cumin, and if we had to buy the tiny jars of cumin from Stop & Shop for $10/each we'd be spending $30 a week just for one spice. We buy it by the POUND here for a couple bucks. Same with lentils, black beans, and chickpeas. It's amazing. And I can always count on them to have fresh okra for a good price when I'm craving bhindi masala. read more

Up front lets agree this is NOT Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. There is no implied arrogance. Been here several times and overall its got fresh Western and Asian veggies at reasonable prices, excellent array of spices, and overall the place seems fairly well organized. Generally there are no lines and cashiers are fairly quick. Staff is helpful. Parking is EZ and store in a small strip mall is well placed. Namaste. read more

I (heart) this place big-time. Bulk legumes and spices are dirt cheap, and they sell a gazillion of those pre-made dishes in the pouches, some of which pack a serious burn. There are also lots of spice mixes, rices, and fresh vegetables (the herbs are plentiful and fresh). The refrigerated section has paneer, sweets & breads- among other things. And lots of stuff is certified kosher, in case that matters to you. read more

I attempted to make an Indian dish and my first step was to visit Bharat Bazaar. the ownes were extremely helpful in taking me through the store and recommending every ingredient I needed for my dish. My husband was very happy after eating an Indian meal that I prepared for the very first time. I will absolutely be a regular at this store. read more

Ok let me start of by saying, I visited this store after reading reviews on yelp. I'm fairly new to CT area and live about 45-55 mins away from this town and I could have easily gone to a "brand" store Patel Brothers in Norwalk but I chose this store as I said based on reviews. N also let me mention that I'm an Indian. I was fairly disappointed on price value and quantity n quality of produce(fresh INDIAN veggies)! Hardly found 2-3 "fresh" veggies. They are also little pricey on DALS compared to other stores same size in nearby towns. But my big disappointment was on the unfriendly n unprofessional staff. Not only did my 3 bags tear WHILe she kept filling in up. But upon 3 continuous requests to lessen the load in bags, I was given excuses. Almost as if it was too much to ask to divide the grocery. Mind u I've already spent $140+. So u can imagine how much I've bought, and found their stinginess on grocery bags annoying after 3 polite requests n time wasting on the staff to keep filling the bags until they tore! N instead of apolozing and/or acting upon customer service the staff showed unprofessionalism by giving shrewd comments. Never going back again nor recommending it to friends. read more
