It involved some partial rollovers into qualified plan from IRA preceding the conversion. I had done a bit of research but wanted an expert to validate the specifics of my situation. While other attorneys I've met with in the past on other topics have a free consultation to validate they are in a position to help; Eric charges $250 for the initial conversation which is an in person meeting. He doesn't offer a first 5-10 minute phone discussion to ensure he is a fit or the need. After about a week, he called to say what I was specifically trying to do wouldn't work. I requested him to send any specific reference to the law section; IRS publication; or articles as his evaluation was contrary to what I was finding myself. He said he would send me something, but never got back to me. There was some additional up and back with questions as I sent him some IRS material after he never got back to me per above. Eric is not responsive, going weeks without a reply. He emailed me on Nov 9th apologizing that he'd been on a big project, and would reply soon. It is now Dec 2nd and still not heard. My perception is that my question was not in Eric's wheelhouse, familiarity with current rulings regarding rollovers to qualified plans from an IRA of earnings, leaving the basis behind in an IRA. In the end I felt like I wasted time and $250 without clarity. To his credit, at least he never asked for more than the initial consultation fee. But regardless I still feel as though I don't have a solid answer and would he would have been better for him to simply decline to engage on the topic during the initial meeting if this wasn't the type of thing he could get to resolve quickly or he didn't have bandwidth.

Eric kindly also answered a lot of estate planning questions for my dad, and furthermore recommended my dad use an attorney where he lives, instead of keeping the business for himself. He also explained why we do not, in fact need a trust. I also really like that his flat fee included him retaining a copy of our notarized will, just in case we ever have a house fire or the like.

It caused an enormous amount of stress for all of us over the period of 2 years. However, the moment Mike Campbell from Miller, Miller & Canby came into the picture, the great weight on our shoulders instantly lifted.  Mike was extremely responsive, answered all my emails thoughtfully and thoroughly, met in person when I felt like I needed to have a quick meeting, and in short, I FULLY TRUSTED HIM. This was my first court case in my 50 years, and as a fairly impatient person, I learned that there were multiple steps we had to go through, and B could not be done before waiting to see how A played out. I think legal matters just come with so many unknowns as well, which makes everything more stressful for the layperson. It was only the full trust Mike inspired that allowed me to be patient with the process, and not have a breakdown along the way! During our lengthy mediations with the complainant, there were 3 total respondents, each with our own lawyers. It was obvious (even to my parents for whom English is a second language) that Mike was the smartest man in the room. The other lawyers threw some ideas and opinions out but Mike was clearly the leader of the group, and the respondents and their respective lawyers, followed his gentle and professional lead and pace.  It might be cliche to say that I really hope I never see him again... but if we ever find ourselves in another legal situation, I know that it will be OK as long as we have Mike Campbell on our side. I believe he will always have the best interests of his clients in mind.

STAY AWAY! Please do not trust her and lose hundreds of thousands of dollars like I did!…read more Eden is an untrustworthy and unreliable lawyer. After my divorce, she told me she filed my QDRO. After 8 months of calling, emailing and trying to reach her without any response from her, I went to check at court. It turned out, my QDRO was not filed. When I finally was able to get in touch and ask her why, she had no answer. When she finally filed the QDRO, even more months later, she made several mistakes - including spelling my name wrong and putting the wrong address when I had been working with her for years already and she had the correct info. She also changed the language of the order, unneccessarily and incorrectly to the judges orders/decisions. Due to her extreme delays and changes, I lost, literally, hundreds of thousands of dollars. If she had just told me from the beginning, she would not be able to do QDRO, I would have happily found someone else. I even asked her if that would be preferred. Instead she took the job and money just to fail and make this process so much more painful. I could never recommend her.

She agreed to the terms and the time frame I needed it. I've had referrals from LegalAid LifeCare before and they all went well, however, this was a nightmare. I honestly wished I had read reviews on her before making that retainer payment. Before paying her, she replied to my emails and picked up a call the same day or the next day. After paying her, it took over a week, and no response to questions and concerns. Up until now, she hasn't finalized my documents. I paid $750 for it, and I haven't heard from her for over a week. She sent me a draft and asked me to review it and reach out if I have questions or concerns. Originally, she told me she would draft her own because a similar copy of the document I gave her doesn't meet the state of Maryland standard, however, the draft that she sent me was a modified copy of the document I initially gave her. Similar to other's review, she ignored my communications each time I reached out and so far haven't heard from her since October 27, 2023. It's like I don't even exist to her anymore since she already took my money without her service being completely rendered. During her virtual consultation, she appears to be such a great person and you end up being so comfortable enough to hire her and pay her but then the nightmare begins after you pay her. I have been treated the same way all the other reviewers have posted on Avvo, google, and such regarding her lack of communication and ignoring them for weeks, months, and so on. At this point, I am just fighting to get my money back. Her license to practice law should be revoked if she doesn't care about her clients after they pay her. It's like a money grab or quantity of clients over the quality of her service since she works alone. I have reported her to the Office of Bar Counsel and everyone else she has mistreated with her lack of customer service should do the same. It's not fair to pay all that money to be ignored and left hanging.

I am extremely fortunate that Mr. Simmons represented me for my particular (and NOT…read morestraightforward) issue. He was very patient in explaining things to me and what I could expect. He did not sugarcoat things and was very factual about what could happen in court, NOT to scare me or provide false reassurances but to tell me what I needed to know. He was TOTALLY committed to achieving the best outcome for me which I will say right now, HE DID! I am very happy about that! He was responsive to my emails, my texts, my phone calls and most important, the advice he gave me was spot on! He communicated with me as soon as he heard from the State's Attorney or to apprise me of the SA's offer and how he intended to respond after talking to me to get agreement. Then, when we were in court, he went above and beyond, conveying my story, and what he thought was an appropriate outcome. I was floored by his eloquence and the wisdom of his word choices. He had also advised me on what Judges want to hear in such a case as mine which helped me in preparing my allocution when prompted by the Judge. It was also there in the courtroom where I witnessed Mr. Simmons in his element and tapping into his vast legal experience. I learned SO much about the law (related to my issue), courtroom behavior, legal terms, even such things as how lawyers negotiate with the State and the Judge about, well, legal stuff. If I am ever confronted by a legal problem (NOT THE SAME ONE!!!! ABSOLUTELY!!), Mr. Simmons would be the ONLY person I would trust to handle it for me. Bottom line, he knows his stuff, he's competent, and it's apparent to me that folks in the court system (Judges, Bailiffs, State prosecutors, other attorneys, even police officers) in Montgomery County know him and respect him and his opinions. His fee was extremely reasonable, especially for all the work that was required in my particular case. So, Mr. Simmons does any EXCELLENT job and if you need legal representation, go to him!
