I lost our furbaby this past year and it was soul-crushing to say the least. My husband knew David and his talent for painting. I wanted to get a painting commissioned of my angel and was hoping David could work some magic. To be honest, I was a little skeptical on whether David could capture a real likeness. I waited patiently (kind of) to get updates on the progress of the selected photo. David was wonderful with providing text message pictures of different stages of the painting and by the time it was ready...I was BLOWN AWAY. I couldn't help but hold back my tears because my baby had come to life in this painting. It was BETTER than the photo I gave David and when I hung it up in my home...it felt like my angel was home. The way David captured the eyes and the softness of the hair on my baby's face/ears was on another level. I feel that when I walk through my kitchen, dining and living room...that my angel is watching my every move like he always did. My little shadow seems to be back in some sense. I treasure this painting as more than artwork and I'm so thankful for the talent David brought through on canvas. read more

We met David when he was painting in Del Mar this summer, and were instantly attracted to his talent and his easy going yet artistically driven personality. Looking at the incredible depth and expressiveness in the eyes, faces and body languate of each of his pet paintings, we knew we had to have him paint our two Labradoodles, Chai and Greta. Our girls are very different, from their coats to their temperaments, and David caught the heart, soul and individuality of each of them in one painting of both of them. He totally caught their smiles and penetrating gazes into our hearts. David dedicated hours and infinite patience to the photo session, and then using technology, which is is also very good at, created one picture from two different shots so as to get the very best images and expressions of each of them. David was a joy to work with in all ways. In addition to his work being fantastic, it also provides great value; an artist of David's talent should be charging 10 times as much! We love our painting by David and highly recommend him! read more

My sheltie recently died, I was broken hearted, sad beyond measure. My daughter - who lives in Denver- sent me a wonderful surprise, a painting of said sadness inspired dog done by David. I cried some more and then sat back and looked at the work done. It is incredible. He captured from a photograph everything about this dog that I loved and want to always remember. David knows how to represent the colors, the fluff, the breed, the shine in the eyes, the wetness of the nose and with my guy I see the love and devotion that was always there with him. Incredible work from a photograph (although I admit it was an incredible photograph.) Send David you pet pictures, you won't be sorry his work is well done and nicely presented. My painting will hang on the wall until the end. Thank you David I am so pleased, sad and happy at the same time. read more

My wife and I met David Kennett about six years ago when he was painting in the park. We were so taken by the way he captured the dog on canvas. Even the dog's personality comes through in his paintings. David painted our two Bernese Mountain dogs and our Westie. He has painted our dog's head shot, with kind of a "pop art" look and painted life-sized pieces of our dogs as well. Previously, we had some paintings done of our dogs by an artist in Maui, but they don't compare to David's fabulous work. Recently, David traveled to Vail and painted our horse, as well as several other horses in the barn. He really captured our horse beautifully and is a pleasure to work with, sending us progress pictures to ensure we were pleased with the eyes and color. I can't say enough about his work and highly recommend him to anyone. read more

I commissioned David to do a portrait of my parents current German Shepherd. Since they had three others from another artist of their previous dogs I knew my mother would be very picky and specific on what she wanted. David was fabulous to work with - very patient and tuned into every detail she requested. And all of this from pictures vs. seeing the dog in person! I believe it's the more realistic and best pet portrait they have that really captures the personality of the dog. We were also impressed with the price point and materials as the completed painting did not even need framing which again makes it much more affordable than others we have had done in the past. I would highly recommend all to work with David and BFF Pet Paintings. read more

I lost my K-9 partner, Maverick, in 2015 to old age. He and I spent more time together than any person in my life. I had considered having a painting commissioned, but only after I learned about David, his passion, and ability did I select him as the artist. After sharing my story with David he created an absolutely beautiful work of art. More importantly, Maverick's personality was so evident! My husband and I hung it in a location that allows us to be greeted by him every time we come home. I still miss Mav every day, but David's painting brings back happy memories and makes me smile! I highly recommend him and plan to be a repeat customer. What a great experience! read more

David is the best pet portrait painter I've ever seen. He took photos of my dogs - many, because they aren't good subjects - and sent me the images. I picked my favorite poses, he photoshopped the images into a single image and produced the most marvelous painting of them together. Not only is the painting an accurate representation of the image, it captures their personalities perfectly. The painting arrived after the death of one of the dogs - he developed lymphoma after the photo shoot and passed away in a matter of a few weeks. The painting is one of my most precious possessions. I've tried to attach it to this review - and hope it comes out somewhat like it really is. read more

I was looking for something special to give to my friend when her dog passed away so I Googled "custom pet paintings" and up popped this website. David Kennett's paintings are vivid, stylish, and best of all, affordable. Yes, it is possible to commission a custom oil painting that isn't going to break your bank! He has a knack for capturing your pet's personality. He can even take FREE pictures of your pet, if need be and can work within tight deadlines - he is very easy to work with and very accomodating. My friend cried she was so happy and I loved his work too. I highly recommend BFF Pet Paintings to any animal-lover. read more

I commissioned David to paint two paintings of my dogs after they passed away - just 4 months shy of one another - after 14 years of being my companions, my coworkers, and my posse! I am on the east coast, so we worked together via phone and email, and David was timely in his responses and provided updates throughout the process. He captured the unique (and completely different) personalities of my two pups so well - my paintings are absolutely PERFECT!! I could not be happier with them. He is incredibly talented and I would choose him again in a heartbeat to do another portrait! (Maybe one of my horses next time?) read more

I met David in Del Mar at Whole FOODS while he was painting a gorgeous canine portrait! I was impressed right way & asked if he could make one for my puppy Cody! He went out of his way to accommodate us and take some shots of our baby on the beach, engaged our little guy into some fabulous poses which we had the challenging task to choose one for the final PORTRAIT! It now looks amazing in our living room & we get lots of praises... David is very talent and he not only captured Cody's personality but the also the exact sparkle in his eyes etc. We are extremely pleased and thankful to have met David. read more

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND David Kennett if you want to capture your pet in an incredible life-like painting. He painted our three dogs, my horse and our daughters dog (which was a gift from us to her for Christmas). I can't begin to express how AMAZING they each are in quality. I've seen other artists who do pet paintings and they are not even half as good, but three to four times more expensive. David comes to your home and takes photos (or in our case the barn too to photograph my horse JoJo) and then paints a portrait from the photo he takes or a photo you prefer to use for your portrait. I don't have enough good things to say about Dave and his painting abilities. When my aunts 7 year old yellow lab Nilla passed away I immediately thought to have Dave paint the dog as a commemorative gift. Dave was kind enough to move up his schedule and completed the painting in only a few days. Dave has an amazing skill of being able to portray our four legged loved ones with such detail and care. Needless to say the painting of Nilla that Dave made was a beautiful way to remember an amazing dog. I cannot recommend Dave enough and will continue to come back for more pet paintings in the future! read more

David did an amazing job with a painting I had done for my Mom's dog that had passes a few years back. He can bring a photo back to life, it's really amazing to see. I found him online and the transaction was smooth and he kept contact through the whole process and completed it much faster than I expected. His work is fantastic and would recommend him highly, these really make a perfect/unique gift. He can also add any sort of features you want and backgrounds to create a great final product. read more

David Kennett is a master at capturing the essence of an animal. His painting of our Daisy dog embodies her character and spark. Owning this painting is better than all our photographs. It is rich with color, texture and warms our hearts. We will have this painting long after our Daisy is gone. I am so glad to have commissioned David to paint our dog in the prime of her life. I highly recommend David to anyone who adores their pet and appreciates art. Bravo David and Thank you read more

David recently painted my golden retriever from a picture I took while hiking in Colorado. Initially I sent a few pictures in and he gladly provided feedback on which one he thought would be best for the painting, and it came out perfect. He was able to capture even the smallest details and it was a spot-on match compared to the picture I sent. David is extremely easy to work with and does a fantastic job. I HIGHLY recommend him! read more

David did a painting of our beloved german shepherd. I gave it to my husband for Christmas last year. Needless to say, tears flowed after he opened it. Happy tears because David captured our dog so perfectly. We get to see and remember him everyday. It is a treasure and David was professional and got the painting done for me in time for Christmas. Would highly recommend David and will use him again. read more

I saw David painting at the Whole Foods in Del Mar. I was amazed at how he seemed to catch the animals character from a photo. After seeing his work, I decided to have a painting of our dog done for my husband's birthday. I emailed David a photo and he created a painting that captures Dino's handsome features but also his goofy personality. We love the painting so much. No regrets! Thank you David. read more

My brothers and I commissioned David to paint my parents aging dog as a Christmas gift last year. The result was amazing! He is incredibly talented and it is something that our parents treasure! David is wonderfully helpful with choosing a photo to use, and genuinely interested in his clients. I would recommend him to anyone, and can't wait to have portraits of my own dogs done! read more

I hired David to paint a portrait for my sister of her dog. Not only was the painting excellent but David worked overtime and on very short notice as well as hand delivered the painting to her home. Furthermore he sent me a video of her receiving the painting. He was a true joy to work with and I am pleased that I found him. I highly recommend his services. George read more
