They were told that the airline would give them 50 pounds a day to purchase clothes and toiletries. Items were purchased and receipts were turned in to Travel Connections because the airline tickets were booked through them. Thank You Linda!…read more I've recently been planning a destination wedding and working with a woman, who will remain nameless, across the street from Lakewood Travel, at Landfall. I've booked all my vacations (one a year) with Landfall and it was like pulling teeth to get her to do anything for me. She has the worst follow through ever, but I felt kinda obligated to her...I don't know why, I always came in knowing where I wanted to go because I did my own research, all she had to do was book. I like to have an actual contact as opposed to booking on line. If my flight gets cancelled or I miss it (happened before), someone will take care of it. Anyways, I finally got really sick of dealing with her and I went across the street to Lakewood Travel. I met Linda on Monday and booked the trip on Tuesday. She's great! I know there's not much of a demand for travel agents and most book on line. When I was searching for one, reviews are virtually nonexistent...even on Angie's List. No one may ever read this, but I needed to do my part and give props where props are due.

Before you get ahead of yourself and try to do everything on your own online, call Phyllis. I didn't think that I needed a travel agent these days (I mean the internet and trip advisor were all I needed, right?), but I was totally wrong. My sister and I couldn't decide on a Caribbean location for our resort trip, so Phyllis sat with us and gave us her first hand experience of all the different islands and their strengths and weaknesses. This woman has been everywhere and her knowledge and experience is super helpful. She ended up booking us a great off season deal at a 5 star all inclusive in Jamaica. It was beautiful, relaxing, and the food was amazing and authentic. And when we were stuck in the Jamaican airport on the way home because our plane was grounded in Charlotte with technical difficulties, all of our fellow passengers had to stand in these horribly long lines in the sweltering heat (no a/c in the airport concourse) while with a call to Phyllis, she got us rebooked on a flight, first class, and in the meantime we whiles away the wait with our passes to the members only lounge in the airport she recommended we spring for. She really saved us. So of course we've gone back to her for our family trip to Aruba, and my sisters trip to Mexico. Really, you can't go wrong with Phyllis, and when things do unexpectedly go wrong on your trip, she is there for you.

I know most people just book things online themselves these days, but when I went to Europe about five years ago I found a travel agent (A woman at AAA Travel) to be very helpful and took away a lot of the stress I normally get with planning things. Well, a friend recommended Evelyn at Pro Travel and said that she and her family had used her numerous times with success. So a couple weeks ago I called Evelyn and she was very friendly, but she did not handle Asia so she was going to have a gentleman who specialized in Asian trips give me a call back. I never got a call back. So I decide to try again because it's getting close to the time I need to get my sh*t together for this trip. The second time around the operator connected me with Pat who said she could help me. Pat was friendly at first but after our initial 5 minute phone conversation it became apparent in emails that she was not familiar with travel to Asia and I was having to Google answers to my own questions because she just gave me general/basic information. It was only after I found a flight I liked that she said they charge $35 to book international flights. To be fair I had spur of the moment booked a tour though Contiki because it was almost sold out, but I was wanting a knowledgeable travel agent to help me with the flight, transfers and extra hotel stays before and after the tour. I had been up front about this but when I questioned the fee I received a terse lecture like email telling me I was taking a risk booking on my own and she didn't know why I didn't come to her from the start. I have no problem with paying a fee as long as I am told about it from the start and the service I am getting is actually helpful. I had been hoping to establish a connection with Pro Travel as I plan on taking trips to Spain and the UK in the future, but my brief experience with them has deterred me from seeking a travel agent again. Maybe you'll have better luck with them like my friend did, I just would not recommend Pat.
