I booked a shoot with Justin at BlizzCon 2016 on recommendation from Geri Kramer, having never even…read moreheard his name before this point. But with such a glowing endorsement from another photographer I respect and admire, I had no doubt that choosing Justin to shoot with would be one of the best choices I would make this weekend. And I was certainly not disappointed. Most photographers give minimal direction, sometimes as simple as "change poses" or "stand in this light." But not Justin. I was warmly greeted with a firm handshake, a genuine smile, and much to my surprise, a short speech on getting into character, having fun, and bringing my own unique take on my costume and character. He then followed it up with a short display of research and reference pictures that he collected to give us starting points for poses and flavors to bring to the shooting and editing process. Note that this research and preparation was NOT something I asked him to do; Justin did this all on his own, in order to set the stage for the best shoot possible long before he even sets up his lights and camera. All he had asked me beforehand was to come up with 3 poses to have ready by the time we met up to shoot. A small price to pay for what turned out to be the best shooting experiences I've had in my 4+ years of costuming and cosplaying. As far as the actual shoot goes, Justin knows exactly how to direct his subjects while getting them into the right vibe and state of mind to really nail the shots. He encourages having fun, playing up your strengths and best features, having different poses, using various lighting set ups, and just about any crazy ideas you want to try. He knows the right ways to push you to nail the emotions and the moment just right while making sure you are having a good time and really enjoying the shooting experience. He even shows you his work as he goes along. Being experienced both behind and in front of the camera, Justin brings a comfort and expertise to his work and his interactions with his clients, and gives realistic yet reasonable working times and deliveries of photos to make sure you get the best quality photos possible as soon as you can. Justin is accommodating and keeps your enjoyment and satisfaction at the forefront of the entire process. At the end of the day, Justin is all about emphasizing the "you" that you bring to your shoot and giving you the best photos possible. And it was this unique "Justin-ness" that he brings to the shooting experience that made it great for me. I would recommend him any day for any occasion, whether it is cosplay shoots, fashion shoots, special occasions, ANYTHING you need photos for. Justin is your guy, and he will take care of you. The positive experience and superb final product he delivers to his clients is unmatched by any other photographer I've worked with.
