Question for the manger: Is your employee, Mat, (scrawny, bald caucasian fella) a person who believes the racist stereotype that all Black people want is sweet wine? Here's why I ask. I visited the Culver City store on Tuesday, Nov. 16th around 12:30pm, maybe 12:45. I shop here often. I was looking for a particular wine, Zweigelt (Austrian), when Mat approached me and asked if I needed help. I asked him if the store carried Zweigelt. He, along with another employee who's name I don't know (Hispanic fella with lots of hair) checked your system and came up with nothing. Mat asked if it was a Cabernet Sauvignon, which immediately showed me he doesn't know a bit about wine. No problem. I informed him Zweigelt is a type of wine varietal, and I started to walk away. As I was walking I heard Matt say to the other employee "I thought for sure it was a Moscato" (or something close to that), which of course is a sweet sparkling wine. Maybe he was referring to something else, maybe not. But I think you should ask him what he meant. What I took from it was that he thinks Black people only want sweet wines, which is considered a racist insult to Black wine professionals. It's a hurtful stereotype that suggests Black people know very little about wine, even though I hold a Level 3 WSET Credential. I didn't say anything to him, but he said it loud enough for me to hear. I think he was a little miffed I pointed out his ignorance concerning Zweigelt. If I'm wrong, and Mat says he was referring to something else - and hair guy confirms it - I'll gladly remove this review. If I'm right, you might want to consider removing Mat from your store. Cheers! UPDATE: First, thank you to BevMo for responding to my review and reaching out to me. Sadly, it's all appearing to be lip service. I was contacted by the District Manager, who told me Mat was asked about the incident and denied my story. In fact, he told his bosses a flat out lie, claiming he asked if the wine was sweet when I first approached him. Mat you're lying and you know it. The problem, now, though, is that the DM seemed to be satisfied with Mat's story and framed it as my word vs. his. Well, that's not true at all. As I mentioned earlier, there was another employee who was standing right next to us, also searching for the wine. The DM says she didn't know that guys name. Well, how bout' asking Mat what his name was, then get his version of the story. That seems pretty simple to me, instead of playing if off as my word against Mat's. This is why I suspect BevMo's response was just lip service. If they had any real interest in getting to the bottom of this, talk to all of the parties involved. As you can see, BevMo, you can't do things behind closed doors anymore. You can't sweep problems under the rug. Take care of this problem now, before it turns into something bigger. For instance, if an employee sues you for racial discrimination in the future, this complaint will be part of any discovery. And how you handle this situation could play an expensive part of the outcome... or not. read more

BeMo! Celebrates its Grand Opening in Culver City! I love the selection of wines. The wine associate was very knowledgable and great in helping me find a sweet red wine, and introducing me to some other sweet reds to try in the near future. Update: Since I first gave this review, I have been here several times and love the selection of wine, especially the reds. I was uncertain about trying a Pinot Noir, but I was referred to Meiomi Pinot Noir and loved it. They offer an extensive Vodka selection along with a variety of other Spirits. Soon, I'll be heading for the Tequila. The 5 cent sales are a great opportunity to explore and experience new wines, especially if you are a novice...like me. Even without the sale, BevMo has great prices. Everything is the store is well organized and easy to find. Otherwise, look for one of the guys to assist you...they are very helpful. read more

Who needs to go to a bar when you have BevMo? Lol. This place has a huge and awesome selection of anything alcohol. I mean the selection is endless here. The staff is really helpful here. I was looking for a few bottles of wine and one of the staff members came up to me and started pulling wine bottles off the shelf. He then started to describe to me how each bottle tasted. They also have wine and beer tastings every Wednesdays and Fridays for .05 a tasting. It's very popular. People come in specifically to take advantage of it. It's a great way to socialize without breaking the bank at the bar and you can listen to an awesome playlist while you're at it! :) Prices are reasonable here. They have a .05 program where you buy a bottle and you get the second bottle for 5 cents. The staff is super friendly and hilarious! They always have me laughing every time I visit. They're always suggestive of what to try out and what not to taste. I rather buy my booze from here than any other place out there. read more

Anthony at BevMo deserves an award! I placed an order for some hard seltzers to be delivered to a friend on Sunday, February 7th between 10 - 11:00 am. Unfortunately, the order fell through the cracks and at 4 pm, there was no delivery. Since this is Super Bowl Sunday, I was worried that the seltzers wouldn't get delivered. When I called BevMo to ask about my order, Anthony answered my call and made a small miracle happen. He was able to get a driver to deliver the packs of hard seltzer within one hour! I'm a long time bevmo customer and recently moved into the area from another part of LA. The first time I went to the store I was hesitant because it seemed smaller than my usual BevMo and I didn't know if they would have the same selection. I was able to obtain everything I was looking for and was greeted and helped by every employee in the store. I was especially lucky to have Margaret D. as my cashier she was especially patient, polite and helpful. I felt a lot of warmth from the associates not typical found in retail chain. Welp my online pick up in store order was lost in translation... There it was sitting on the cash reg in the back and no one bothered to look at it...smh... Whats the point of the order if an employee is going to forget about it, or choose to ignore it.. The product was sold out and the cashier graciously asked me if I would like to cancel my order. I went to pick up a couple of items at Bevmo. As I was walking in the door I say a box of Pellegrino that I thought was on sale. There was one box with a price of 2.99. it didn't say per box or per bottle. But when they rang me up it came out to almost 40 dollars. When I showed the manager the price he argued with me said he knows that's not the price because he works there. At that point I figures it was human error but he refused to acknowledge the advertisement was wrong and spoke to me in a condescending matter. All he needed to say was I'm sorry it was a mistake but instead he had an aggressive tone and started huffing and puffing. Looks like I'll be shopping somewhere else for wine. read more

So glad to have a BevMo! in my area now! Not only that, they have a fantastic craft beer selection. They have their normal cold beer fridge in the back with domestics and imports. However, there is a beautiful special fridge dedicated to California Breweries full of 22oz bombers. A lot of hoppy IPAs and love to local establishments. I dig how they have all the brews separated by style, makes it easier to find what your looking for. Yet, I'm still indecisive so much to choose from. I can't speak on their wine choices but I looks ample. Definitely my new go-to spot. read more

Corina was super helpful with giving us an idea of how much alcohol we would need and what kind of alcohol since our venue allowed us to bring our own. She also did some price matching to help make the price competitive and took care of the delivery. The only downside was that we have heavy drinkers in our family so we started to run out. I've been a loyal customer for years and one of the many bottles that I bought had a cracked cork, so the bottle was bad. I attempted to return it but they would not take it back without a receipt. A few things: It was one bottle that was clearly still full! Why would a customer lie about that? It was also part of the 5 cent sale. The other bottle was great! This wasn't the fact that I "didn't like it". They say there is a 7 day policy for returns. Okay, so now I'll need to revise my shopping, because I tend to buy by the case, but guess what everyone! You better down those bottles all within one week or you won't be able to take it back! Do you seriously expect everyone to drink that much? That's a terrible policy. I checked the website and hopped into my car passing the Vons that is only one block from me. I'm happy to have a BevMo in Culver City. Although the Sprouts has recently made the shared parking lot busy there are dedicated parking spots for BevMo customers. Like other BevMos you can find a good selection of craft beer here and a good selection of wines and even unusual soft beverages. Unfortunately, it's always difficult to find assistance in finding what you're looking for so you have to approach your visit as scavenger hunt of sorts. Sales people who never leave the register shout out "Welcome to BevMo" when you enter but it's hard to tell whether they're real people or zombies waiting for the apocalypse as they approach their job with the same enthusiasm. There's never been much of a line at this location because they never seem that busy. The checker seemed bored and not that delighted to see an actual customer. New BevMo location, right in the middle of Culver City! Did we need a BevMo here? Not really. Will we take a BevMo? Sure, why not?! The space looks small, but they use it all very efficiently. You'll get everything you need for a party in terms of liquor and beer. Wine? Go somewhere else. They have the big, major wine brands, but I'd take Trader Joe's cheap wine over most of this. They don't have the best selection of high end stuff, as they're not a specialty shop, so don't expect to find an odd 25 year old Scotch here. If you want that, you know where to find it. Staff needs to seriously beef up their overall knowledge, and get used to the layout of the store. Nobody knew where to find basic things, like mixers or specific beers. They couldn't even point out where to find the beers and wines they were tasting in back. One guy outright told me he only knew a little bit about liquor, couldn't identify the types of beers, and had never drank wine. We actually had to educate him; isn't this the managers job? The one good thing I'll say (aside from selection) is they have beer/wine tastings in back, and at good midday times on weekends. They got to buy one of the wines, which is what you really want from a tasting! Good to fins something new. read more

I always wondered when this location was going to open. Glad to see that the weird hole in the side of Office Depot has morphed into a BevMo. Honestly, the way the construction originally looked from the outside...looked like it was going to be a side store within Office Depot (me and my imagination...duh). Because after you look at some of the prices while pricing your next computer you'd surely need a drink! But I digress. I was researching a particular hard cider and where I could find a bottle or two of it. I had gone to my personal favorite, Beverage Warehouse, and they were out of stock. They said that the manufacturer had pulled the bottles due to them shattering and didn't know when they would be back in stock. My next nearest choice to business is Wally's but even they can be a tad pricey. Guess it's because of their reputation and name. Other than going to Father's Office where I can find it on tap I kept searching. I hadn't even considered BevMo to be honest. People I know seem to have a bad history with it so I never considered it. But to see that (1.) most locations had it in stock, (2.) it was in stock at this location, and more importantly (3.) this location was open for business (and on the path I travel home from work), I was overjoyed. Shiny floors, everything perfectly in stock...you know, the joys of freshly opened stores. Total awesomeness to see my beverage of choice happily in stock and waiting to come into my open cart. As long as any variety of my hard cider of choice is in stock, I'll be back. That was the lowest price I've seen for it ever. read more

I came here on opening weekend, they had wine and hard cider tasting. They also had the option to get a free caricature drawing. After getting our drawing and feeling a bit "happy" from the wine tasting, my boyfriend and I walked around the store looking at everything it had to offer. It is really like disneyland for adults, like all Bev Mo's, the store has so many options, some old classics and some new funky drinks. I placed a online order at 12pm to pickup between 2:30-3:30pm. I understand this terrible situation with Covid-19 pandemic, the e-mail reply I received said someone will contact:email me shortly. I called the store and the person that answered the phone was very rude. I didn't get upset until the store was closed because I never received a email about not being able to get my order today. The store is closed tomorrow so now I have to wait till Monday. I really understand that they may have been super busy but there is no need for the employee to be so rude. management needs to re-train customer-service. Once again, I understand we are in very stressful times, but everyone is!!! I also see they are processing the payment from my credit card. This BevMo location on Sepulveda is amazing in customer service! Go here for all your beverage items as well as all the other thoughtful accessories to hosting a wonderful party. I had an issue with some of the glasses I bought..it was actually my fault running the glasses through the dishwasher and rubbing off the painted words. The manager completely understood and did an exchange no problem. Who does that?! This BevMo has exceptional customer service and not to mention their selection of beverages is outstanding.
