I looked outside, and standing there was a woman with perhaps the largest, most impressive bouquet of flowers I've seen outside of a Ritz Carlton lobby. On my weekend walk up to the Grove, I noticed a new florist had opened on 3rd. The other night I needed birthday flowers on the way to dinner and discovered on my way out that my usual standby florist had closed early for a wedding. Ah, mon dieu! After a short panic, I remembered there was a new florist but had no idea what the place was called to look it up. Quick call to Romp (next door -- the owner actually walked next door to check for me!) later (thank you, Romp!!), I had the name and a number. The guy on the phone was a little wishy washy but he passed the call on to another gent (the owner, I'm guessing), who I told I needed two small bouquets stat and had a budget of about $25 each. He said, sure, no problem, but all he really had on hand were roses. I was elated and asked how late and he told me he's be around late so anytime by 8p would be fine. Excellent! We pull up and I run in and immediately I'm struck by all of the gorgeous arrangements in the flower fridge. Really, truly beautiful. They bring out my flowers and they're two beautiful full sized arrangements of lavender roses, pale hydrangea and dark purple wax flowers, one wrapped in purple ribbon, the other in green. Can you say, perfect? He then says, ok, $20 each. Whaaaaaaat? I was floored. Thrilled and floored. One more experience like this and they're shooting up to six stars. The owner creates absolutely gorgeous arrangements; unfortunately, the man she has answering the phone is a backwards, barely English-speaking, cold individual who would much rather not be on the phone with clients (so, why is he?). I called on a Friday to request a morning delivery the next day. My plan was to surprise my best friend and I knew that if the flowers made it to here, she would not be dissapointed. I SPECIFIED and REPEATED my request to have the flowers delivered the next moring and he said "no problem". I knew I was paying $10 for the local delivery, and I would have paid more if that guaranteed the morning delivery. The next morning, no flowers. I had to endure this man's sour presence again when I called at 11:30am to ask when the flowers would be delivered. He said that they were out for delivery and the only way to get ahold of the driver was to page him and wait for a call back (do pagers still exist?). I called at 12:30pm and still a "they're out for delivery". My friend left for the weekend and at 1:30pm I called to inform that man that the delivery missed the recipient and that I was upset. Irritated, he said, "no problem (is that all he knows how to say) I will cancel the order." I shouted to him that his customer service was horrible and hung up on him....My guess is he turned around (probably had a lit cigarrette in his mouth) and walked past the vase that was supposed to contain the flower arrangement intended for my friend. Not sure what time frame he operates on, but morning requests mean by 10:30am. It's unfortunate that I had to lower my rating for this place (the arrangements really are beautiful), but customer service makes or breaks a business, and if it wasn't for the amount of discounts that people manage to milk out of the owner for their own weddings (mine included), this place would not be in business. read more
