The Saturday Market is held weekly with over a hundred different stalls. The Saturday Market starts at 8am and finishes around 4pm, but some stallholders leave early particularly in the winter months so don't leave it til too late to visit. Don't forget to wander up the main shopping street to the Wednesday Market too.
There is a wide range of stalls, try some of the Greek Olive and local cheeses. Take home some of the award winning Lincolnshire pies and local pork and some old fashioned sweets for the kids.
There are some interesting stalls that sell wool and craft items and the air is usually scented with homemade soaps and bathbombs as you walk around.
Beverley market is a great place to pick up souvenirs and small gifts and different gifts can easily be found. There are stalls selling bespoke t-shirts, pashminas, novels, jewellry, gloves, socks and handbags for very competitive prices. Look out for the little chinese silk purses and glasses cases which are great party bag items or even stocking fillers.
The 16th Beverley Festival of Christmas takes place on Sunday, 12th December 2010. 10am til 4pm. This festival is the largest in the area, attracting thousands of visitors, be sure to park out of town and use the park and ride from the racecourse if you are coming in. The Saturday Market becomes a bustling Christmas Market with lots of attractions including a Victorian fairground for young children, street entertainers, bands and morris dancers. Santa arrives in his sleigh pulled by reindeer and there are cute Bernese Mountain dogs too.
A couple of minutes walk to North Bar, there are Sealed Knot perfomances where they re-enact a scene from the Civil War. Very exciting to big and little kids alike. There is also a classic car display. read more
