Full disclosure! I don't know if I've ever bought anything in this store! However, I just looked…read morethem up and couldn't believe they are still in business! I have a booklet on how to mix drinks with different types of alcohol that they used to give customers back to the 1950's. I grew up in Northport off of Elwood Road in the 1950's and 1960's and my father apparently went to Richter's for his liquor. When I got to drinking age I asked my father if I could borrow that booklet and I've had it ever since. It makes me feel good to know that a childhood store is still in business and still with the family name. That alone I would think shows they must treat their customers well as there are a lot of other liquor stores around. I see they have good reviews as well. Kudos to Richter's. I hope you are around for another half century and more! (P.S. Too bad they don't still offer the discount they did then! $1.00 off each bottle when you purchase 3 or more!)

To the guy who is working the registers right now,…read more Perhaps you shouldn't talk shit about your customers when they are within earshot. I had my wife pick up beer on the way home from work, and I made sure she checked the date code on the bottom of the can, because when you're paying almost $30 for a 4 pack of beer, you should check to make sure it hasn't been sitting on the shelf for months. So your condescending comments about people checking the date codes (specifically on the brand of craft beer she was purchasing), and that they don't even know what they're looking at, are unnecessary and unappreciated. It would be one thing if you were trying to offer guidance (which there would be no guidance to offer about checking date codes, aside from "you should be checking date codes") but you were just being a dick. I guess you have 2 less customers to worry about checking date codes now.

First, this store is not called "Thrifty Beverage Center." Unfortunately, I don't remember the name…read moreand don't need to because I would never give them my business again in the future. When we entered the store, I asked the sales clerk if it was "Thrifty", and she said, "A hundred years ago." I laughed that off, but as we were looking for beer to purchase I noticed that no prices were posted anywhere for any of the beers. When I asked the sales clerk why she rudely said, "Our regular customers know this and that's how it's been." We obviously were not her regular customers. This establishment gets one star only for its craft beer selection. The female sales clerk needs lessons on how to be polite and respect the questions of those who are not the "regulars" or she should be fired if she can't change her attitude.

I recently revisited this location under its new ownership, and the difference is night and day. They are truly changing the game. The IPA selection is world-class, featuring everything from fresh, local hazy cans to hard-to-find West Coast doubles. It's clear the new team has a curated eye for quality and freshness. What really set the experience apart, though, was the service. The person working was incredibly pleasant and accommodating, helping me navigate the new arrivals and ensuring I found exactly what I was looking for. It's rare to find that level of genuine hospitality and product knowledge combined. If you're a craft beer enthusiast or just passing through town, do yourself a favor and stop in. The new era of this store is polished, professional, and easily one of the best spots I've found on the road. I'll definitely be making this a permanent stop on my travel circuit!

They aren't here to rip you off, I've found some great beers at decent prices. Pick your battles, some things are expensive, but hell if they aren't worth it. They always serve with a smile, they are willing to break apart 6packs so you can have a couple, and they've got taps behind the register for sampling and growler fills. In a previous review of Beverage Barn in Mineola, I mentioned how that place is my home away from…read morehome. Well, if that's the case (and it is) then Swiftway is my summer house because this place does not disappoint when it comes to quality beer choices and styles. Monday night I swung by here with my girlfriend as I've been entirely bitten by the pumpkin beer bug. After sweeping Beverage Barn of the styles they were sellin', I wanted to take a look elsewhere. I think this was only my second time here, but this trip solidified my desire to return again and again. We strolled in and as we entered, each side had stacks of beers displayed, and better yet, the whole right side was a plethora of pumpkin choices. And even better than that? They were mostly different options from what BB had on its shelves. And even better than that? (okay I'll stop) They have a similar set up as BB in that you can pull single beers from any open pack and create your own six pack. I ended up with a couple more than that just because I have a hard time limiting myself to only six. Beyond the front displays, there was a large freezer of cold beer choices and then an aisle with tons of styles as well as half of that aisle dedicated to limited release bottles and beers that might be a little off the beaten path. You'll also notice a section for ciders (which intrigued my girlfriend so she decided to create her own little cider six-pack). Around the corner you'll find your macro section as well as some overseas options. This was where I spotted a six-pack of Krombacher Dark (a recent discovery at a nearby German spot that I was hunting for) and immediately grabbed that for purchase. At the counter, we were greeted by the friendly staff member (possibly owner?) who knew his stuff about beers as he commented on a few of them. Added bonus: if you happen to have a New York Craft Beer Club card (it's totally worth the membership) you'll get 10% off your brews. There's also a growler station with a nice handful of beers on tap for purchase. Overall, I left here happier than a kid in a candy store (because, hey, it's kind of like an adult candy store, right? Right). Once I plow through my current bunch of beers I know I'll be returning here (you know, my summer house) to find plenty more of the good stuff.
