They keep distemper vaccines on hand, will not give more than one vaccination at a time (crucial for ferrets) and know to have you stay in the clinic to watch for potential side effects. I also got a call from them a couple days later just to check and see that my ferrets were doing well after the vacs. I wish I had known about them years ago when I brought my business to Lawrence and added to it.

The office is always clean, and they work with me to make sure I understand & can afford what's happening with my dog and his treatment. They are thorough and patient. (I will not name) at Veterinary MED SURG HOSP of Topeka stated that my Dog did not need a Diagnostic Sonogram after he examined my Dog! I was told that an infection was my Dogs issue. (No doubt he had that as well). After treating my Dog who had not eaten for 3 days sent me home with pills and a can of Dog food. I worked with my Dog day & night for a week and he got worse. My Dog was weak and gasping for air. I went back to the first Veterinarian and It was obvious by Dog was in much distress. I had my Dog put to sleep to end his misery. Not two seconds after I let go of my Dog when he stopped breathing, Blood ran out of his nostrils. My Dog had a week of suffering with cancer and a Diagnostic Sonagram or Any other like device would of at least suggested CANCER! I do not have a lot of fancy words for the distress or the equipment that could have been used, but all I know is this facility let my Dog down and He suffered for a week!!! Not to mention the $511.00 wasted on incompetence! On the afternoon of 1/27/2023 (11 days after being seen by The Veterinary medical surgical Hospital of Topeka) I received the one and only follow-up call regarding how my Dog was doing! In the past I have received a call from a VET the later in the afternoon or the next day after a booster or Rabis shot!!! This facility was the only facility that would see my dog on a Saturday morning for an urgent need…read more 05/23/26 my dog needed seen due to him being unable to walk on his back left leg. Patrick was very kind on the phone and asked if I could be there in 45mins. DONE! Dr. Kate Schoemann examined Pupper and without any x-rays she diagnosed Pupper with a blown knee and a torn meniscus. She explained the surgery process and the potential cost. I asked for some time to weigh things out. She sent Pupper home on pain meds; I did some research and decided against surgery due to the high cost. I tried reaching out via phone to Dr. Schoemann to discuss the pros / cons of a leg brace; I called 4 times between 05/26/26 - 06/05/26 with a stop into the hospital. There was a nice lady working the desk who scheduled a "Phone appt " with Dr. Schoemann to call me 06/03/26 at 2:40p; this call never took place. I am very disappointed for the lack of help I have received in the care of my dog plus pro-longing the potential of him utilizing a brace to assist in his walking. Do Better! I've used these guys because they have availability sometimes over other vets. I'm now aware of why they have openings....The vets in this facility on Wanamaker seem to be educated and they are nice people, however the staff is less than educated. I have been given the wrong medicine twice, one time causing my dog harm. The next time the staff tried to convince me that I didn't know what I was talking about regarding medicines my dog takes so they could sell me what VetCo offered instead of ordering me what I needed. I also am finding that the support staff is unprofessional, not quality driven and really could care less. I feel for the vets as they can only do so much for their team's best support. I would not recommend this location for those who really want attention to detail and true care.

We brought him in 30 minutes later and got immediate care. The vet spoke with us regarding why he did what he did and communicated very effectively. My puppy got staples in his foot and was given a cone. We returned two weeks later and got them removed, no issues! The only thing I disliked very much was the front desk associate, I think her name was Gabby. She was not kind and seemed like we were the largest problem of her day. I forgot to ask something and when I called back she picked up the phone and said "yeah?" When I explained who I was and why I was calling, she was sassy back and made it seem like my question was a bother. When we went back for the removal, we walked in AFTER calling in outside and she said "whatcha need" again, acting like we interrupted her personal time while she was clocked in. She very well could have been having a bad day, however it translated poorly to the customer. Hope her day got better.
