In fact, after hearing a horror story from my parents when they retired about a CPA that did their tax return for a massive sum, I started having them send their info here and they now swear by Mark Rhode, Dave Schwan and their staff of competent accountants all while cutting their tax prep fees by about 60%! Pretty amazing when they live in another state and conduct their tax prep all by snail or email. For my tax prep fee, I receive an accurate, legal, and timely return, good advice, a fair price, referrals to other competent financial management professionals, and the ability to contact them throughout the year when various questions come up that might affect my tax situation. I don't get nickled and dimed for every question, phone call or email that I initiate and in the 2 or 3 years where there has been an IRS inquiry about a discrepancy, the Rhode, Schwan and Co. professionals have handled the correspondence and explained it all to the feds on my behalf. They are worth every bit of the affordable fee they get because the IRS has backed down each time and I am not behind bars. :) In fact, I am most impressed that they have never looked to take shortcuts or encouraged any type of behavior from me that would be frowned upon by the authorities. I believe in paying my fair share but not a penny more and that is exactly what I get when my tax return is prepared here. Guaranteed, they have my tax business and referrals for life!

Their tax estimates are always wrong. 3. They automatically ask for an extension because they will never get your taxes done by April 15th. 4. They always ask you for irrelevant information like the sale of a house for a future tax year. Figure out how to get my taxes done in time for this year before you worry about future years. 5. No tax planning is ever done. Unless you earn millions of dollars and want to pay their hefty hourly fee for tax planning. They just don't have any time to meet with you to do tax planning because they are too busy catching up with all the late taxes they are submitting. 5. Exorbitant fees. They are not experts in taxes, but they charge an arm and a leg. 6.Their fees go up every year, even thought they know your personal situation better every year. 7.You always pay penalties. ALWAYS. I keep asking. Tell me what to do and when to do it so I don't have to pay penalties. For such a "expert" tax firm, why can't they get it right. 8. You have to do all the leg work yourself anyway so really why do you need Abdo? 9.They have never once found a deduction for me. 10. They tell me LESS THAN 1 WEEK before taxes are due that I overpaid for my 401K. And they can't help me get that money back. And I have to pay a penalty for overpaying my 401k. Why do I need these kind of experts who can't actually help me? How do I get the overpayment back? How ironic that not only do I lose that money, but I have to pay a penalty on the overpayment. 11. Unless you make millions of dollars a year, don't use this firm. You don't count. You are not worth their time and there are other higher earners who get the VIP service, not just the regular person trying to do their taxes honestly and on time. If you are a multimillionaire and are looking for somewhere to throw away your money, Abdo is the place to do it. I guess it's better throwing your money away with Abdo than just throwing it in the Minnesota lakes but not too much better. 12. I emailed multiple times asking if a home office or professional dues are deductible. Nothing is every deductible, including charitable contributions so why do I need a firm that charges so much money, causes penalties, never gets it right, never gets taxes on time and who could not care less about me as a client? 13. I emailed in April, July, August, September asking when my taxes will be done, and they still cannot manage to get my taxes done until, you guessed it, October 16th. 14. Go to anyone else, because they will care more about your taxes than Abdo does. 17. Just remember, you will never get your taxes. They will delay, delay, delay, go on vacation, delay, delay, delay, go on vacation, delay, and then give you short notice to pay an exorbitant tax bill because their estimate was way off. 18. But wait for it! You will IMMEDIATELY get a bill for their services. The day you submit your taxes and then their hefty fee will be sent to you on the same day--no delays in billing for their services, just in getting your taxes done. 19. DO NOT USE ABDO--you are throwing away your money. Use HR Block, because they will actually do a better job than these so called expert firms. And you will pay thousands of dollars in penalties every year because they will NEVER get your taxes done in time, no matter how early you get your information to them. And you won't have any deductions anyway, so why do you need an expensive accounting firm? They won't help you with tax planning so you don't need a firm like this, unless of course, you earn millions of dollars. Then you probably do rate and will get VIP care (but I would not count on it even if you are a gazillionaire because Abdo is just too busy and behind for you the gazillionaire.
