On top of that, the chair, along with all our other furniture and possessions, was sent to storage in another town for almost a year after our Brookfield home was badly damaged in the 5/15/18 microburst storm. We were evacuated, and the house was condemned and unoccupied for a long time. After all the repairs were completed eleven months later, we moved back into our house. However, as we sorted through furniture, boxes, and other things as they were returned from storage, the poor chair ended up on the front porch and got wet whenever rain blew in on it. It was in bad condition. Yet I really like that chair, and wanted it to be reupholstered. Al's Reupholstery was recommended to us by the lady at the carpet cleaning place where we took some area rugs for cleaning. We went to Al's place of business to get a price for the upholstery work and to choose a fabric. Al has a large selection to choose from, and I picked a cranberry red fabric. Al's assistants had to come to our house and pick up the chair, because it was too big to fit into our sedan. Today, 6/18/19, I have my favorite chair back, and wow! After several weeks the work is done, and my chair is beautiful. The cushion is better quality now than the original cushion. The chair looks nice, is comfortable, and all the parts work well when pushing out the kick stand. I am 100% pleased with the work done by Al's Upholstery. Thank you, Al. Little Joe and Daughter, just around the corner from the UCONN Campus, is the REAL deal! Had a treasured antique Gothic Revival chair sorely in need of repair. Hoping so, because these unique vintage Baker pear wood chairs are special. Figuring he does high end jobs because I was also able to buy a European gorgeous woven fabric left over from another client's job. He also retied the springs and added webbing to a pair of our grandmother's beautiful leather chairs, working from the bottom of the chair without disturbing the leather fabric. A recent example: we have a beautiful George Nakashima table and have always admired the leg support construction. We asked Rachel to build an art gallery-style bench with the same type of support. Owner graciously met me downstairs, removed item from my car and took the time to inspect the item and point out the "gem" I procured as he compared my lounge to the "prefab won't-last-five-years chaise lounges of today. He asked questions on where the item will be stored (high traffic va low traffic areas of home) and when i answered he provided a plethora of fabrics to consider.
